  1. To my knowledge it does not apply in sports that the ACC does not sponsor. I'm indifferent to ND hosting a college home game in December, as I won't attend. Snow football would be more of a February thing.
  2. In a few of those we were @15th after the season and won the bowl game. But I speculate that we would find ourselves ranked #12 if it mattered to ESPN. That's half of why I don't like it. I don't want 9-3 Kellys to get perpetual contract extensions on the basis of playoff appearances. But the main half is it treats ND like a G5 and forces us to play the week before Bama et al, who are resting. I don't give me the No Conf Championship Game excuse. In this model the CCG is basically an exhibition that does not eliminate at top team from the playoff that will be a few weeks later. Join the MAC and say only 4 game schedule, Form a conference with Temple and UMass. Are both ideas forbidden by the ND-ACC contract which states that if ND joins a conference it must be the ACC.
  3. I believe they are just keeping it in the dark for 30 years.
  4. That's because it puts all the attention on the post season and blinds people to the original question of the national champion; who had the best season? The best example is 2017 Auburn who had a much better season than Alabama. But this version of college football rewards those who get hot in December.
  5. In any system there are going to be crazy years like 2001 and 2007 where the #2 ranking is cursed and no one is going to be completely satisfied. That being said and to the best of my knowledge, 2001 Colorado is the only 3 loss team in the history of college football who thinks they got jobbed out of a national title. Or rather an NC shot; I haven't heard a Buff to explain how the team that lost to Fresno State was going to beat an NFL ready Miami.
  6. which of those teams has not only themselves to blame? Or in the case of 2001 Colorado, blame themselves three times.
  7. There definitely is a bit of hangover when the team flies back from Ireland to get ready for a game next week. in 2012 Purdue took our future BCS team to the wire 17-20, and teams on that schedule did not score 17; until the Orange Bowl... And presumably something like it after the tour of the Guinness brewery.
  8. I'm trying to map out this wonderful family tree from news articles. Eli Raridon is a TE who recently verballed to Notre Dame. His father, Scott Raridon Jr was a long-snapper at ND from 2002-06. I don't remember him. Grandfather Scott Raridon Sr. is from Mason City Iowa and his high school coach was Barry Alvarez. Sr played at Nebraska on those early 80s teams, I think on the famous 1983 team. Afterwards, Sr was a grad assistant and Notre Dame's S&C coach in 1988. John Raridon is said to be the youngest son of Sr. So he would be Scott Jr's brother and Eli's uncle? Different path, same destination for father-son Huskers | Husker Football | norfolkdailynews.com
  9. The problem I have with this Minnesota law is that there are a lot more crimes classified as a "felony" now than when 'felony murder' was defined at common law. It is actually very hard to unintentionally cause someone's death without there being any felony. Therefore I say Minnesota has effectively said that almost every Manslaughter can be charged as a 2nd degree Murder. See also In the vast majority of jurisdictions that authorize felony murder charges, the underlying crime has to be distinct from the act that caused the victim's death. Someone who participates in a burglary or robbery that turns fatal, for example, can be charged with felony murder—a policy that has been widely criticized because it can result in severe punishment for people peripherally involved in crimes that result in someone's death, regardless of their intent or knowledge. But in Minnesota, the "independent felony" rule does not apply, which means an assault that unintentionally kills someone, which ordinarily would be treated as manslaughter, can instead be charged as murder, dramatically increasing the potential penalty. https://reason.com/2021/03/11/a-reinstated-third-degree-murder-charge-gives-jurors-another-option-to-convict-derek-chauvin-for-killing-george-floyd/
  10. Did you mean with the cops already leaning on GF? The law is already very harsh with things like self-defense and citizens' arrests. The rights you think you have are loopholed to death to the point the stars have to align in your favor. And that's without the cops there. Obstructing a uniformed police officer? fuggadaboudit. Regular people arrest people who are passing counterfeit bills? Doubt it. And most of these violent encounters that make the news consist of the suspect resisting arrest. They wouldn't be deadly if the suspect consented to handcuffs and relied on his lawyer. Which brings us to Lincoln shenanigans. I have the image of cow tipping rascals cavorting through the cornfields. You didn't address the part where the police catch you, which is the where the policing debate starts. I'll grant that the NE police would be faster and harder on a black group doing the same thing. But that doesn't mean we have police brutality until someone decides to fight the cops. For most of those shenanigans you should get a night in the cells. Do you think Han acted in self-defense in the real version?
  11. So you want Maxine Waters arrested or do we wait an aligned mob to murder someone? BTW the total number of people killed by the Trump rioters = 0. Not sure who is going around reacting to old posts but thank you for doing my homework. Pretty much none of the emotionally driven comments hold up even a few months later.
  12. The answer to most of these questions is "yes" but it is not a great analogy because anyone else is not charged with preventing crime and arresting people. Regular people get to call the police and pass the buck on handling a suspect high on drugs resisting arrest. What did you do? We had some yahoos in our high school but not one of them would resist arrest and expect to get any sympathy from justice system or the rest of society.
  13. I'm think the comparison is "The Boston Massacre" and the shooting of Ashley Babbit. The one difference being Sr Airperson Babbit did not actually assault the officer.
  14. I took it to mean the resulting protests and riots generally which was the last straw for the 2020 election. It wouldn't be news if Pelosi merely thanked the demonstrators.
  15. Trump doesn't get a choice, as former President the Secret Service follows him everywhere. I don't know how you transpose Waters' remarks onto a minor R official. Some guy says the police are blameless but quietly demands that no police come near him? I really hope you mean "censured."
  16. Maxine Waters requested a police escort when she visited Minnesota. Was she there to agitate against 'police violence?'
  17. Seriously? How was that conflict of interest allowed? FYI Notre Dame's last national title hinged on DC Barry Alvarez culminating in Miami's final 2PC attempt. Our offense was good enough for another national title from 90-93. Many Irish fans think the drop off in defense kept Lou from a 2nd undisputed natty. https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/college/uw/2021/04/06/barry-alvarez-gave-all-time-quote-upon-his-arrival-wisconsin/7051074002/
  18. JC is like Patrick Stewart, he's been an old man for so long I subconsciously count him as having been born that way, and immortal.
