  2. He's referring to a leaked Podesta email in which a Clinton spokeswoman suggested the Murdochs are Catholic because it's the denomination most compatible with conservatism... presumably, that its easier on the East coast to be Catholic than an Evangelical. Also, strong Pro-life Catholic church position vs strong not pro-life Hillary position. And I didn't say there was a scandal. Just totally opposite belief systems siting next to each other. I believe only around 50% of Catholics in the U.S. are pro-life so I don't think you can really say that they are necessarily totally opposite belief systems.

  4. As a former member of a similar group, I think I can shed some light on some of the potential purposes of these types of groups. 1. Promote tolerance of atheism. Atheists are still not well received by some in this country and some of these groups work to promote tolerance and combat the negative stereotypes about atheists. 2. Promote secularism. These groups often try to help ensure that separation of church and state is honored. 3. Provide moral support. Some individuals are completely ostracized by coworkers, friends, and family over their lack of belief and these groups are probably the best equipped to provide emotional support through shared experiences. 4. Provide a community. Churches and religious groups provide a nice community for religious individuals and many atheists desire a substitute for this. 5. Moral/Philosophical discussions. Many atheists are humanists and have a desire to discuss important moral/philosophical topics in a scripture free setting. 6. Engage with those curious about atheism. Some who are on the fence about their beliefs like to explore/challenge their beliefs by engaging in discussions with atheists.
  5. I think he wins Utah unless Trump makes the election close. It's a done deal if Romney endorses him.
  6. We could call it "gumdrops and gin for everyone" and the underlying economics still don't hold up. Show me a government "based on pure capitalism" please. (I'd like to know how you define "capitalism" in that context, too). I was referring to free-market capitalism. I don't believe that any government was ever entirely based on free-market capitalism but governments that were the closest have tended to move away from it over time. The U.S. is a good example of this. The U.S. government has added agencies and implemented regulations to combat the observed problems of the free-market.
  7. I think that it is also true that socialism is too stigmatized of a term for some. If you are able to attach the socialism label to a piece of legislation, some people will vote against it out of fear without even truly considering it. History has shown that governments based on pure capitalism or pure socialism/communism don't work and the challenge is striking the right balance between the two. I think too often political discussions needlessly devolve into a capitalism vs socialism debate when ideas and candidates should be evaluated individually, regardless of where they fall on the spectrum.
  8. ....why do you think that is? Does it have anything to do with him being a racist, sexist, xenophobic, misogynistic demagogue? That's your opinion, people are entitled to their opinion on Clinton as well, sorry to burst your bubble. True. However, it would be a pretty boring discussion board if people didn't discuss disagreements in opinions. I don't believe Landlord ever stated that people weren't entitled to have different opinions on Trump and Clinton.
  9. I believe that is only for the senate.
  10. I don't think you can simply dismiss racism, xenophobia, and misogyny as "bs". Also, what does he stand for? He has taken many different positions on virtually every issue. its all his bs. Thats what it is. Sorry i didnt list each of his numerous problems. And yeah. I said "appeared to stand for" This is the problem with this f'ing board. Social medai. And society in general. You frickin ppl spend more time and effort parsing thru a post or statement, noitpicking each little word so you can say "YEP. YEP. SEE!? YOURE WRONG HERE". As opposed to reading the whole message. f#*k that sh#t. Im sick of it. Read and think Sorry if I came off strong. I didn't expect you to list all his problems and I understand your message. However, I don't believe it is possible to look past that so that's why I challenged it.

  13. He appears to have more influence among Republicans than Paul Ryan and the Republican establishment.
  14. ^ There's the "how". Pence ducked reporters when Trump video was published
  15. No, those pieces don't definitively define his ideology. Kaine is center left and Pence is far right. 538 compared Kaine's and Pence's ideologies and put Kaine at about -40 on their scale which is middle of the road for recent Dem VP picks and put Pence at +60 which places him as the most conservative VP pick in recent history.
