  1. Difference being those mentioned didnt shun us the first time around. IIRC Oku was recruited by us and even came to High School in Lincoln and then choose Tenn. If I recall NU was in the discussion but in no way did he "shun" NU. I believe the Lincoln East thing was it being one of those met a girl things on his visit, "reportedly" girl got knocked up(a lot of speculation over this one, I won't side one way or the other), and East offered classes that he needed to graduate in the spring that many high schools didn't. The last thing seemed really deep, but I believe several articles actually proved. I also believe NU wasn't really in the picture that much when he did come to Lincoln. It may have opened the door a little back in NU's favor, but wasn't gonna matter, so no, I don't buy the "he shunned NU" reason. My point, about Marve, Forcier, and Teabag was more to the fact that all have the same eligibilty or even less. Forcier and Marve to an extent were not overly popular on their teams. And Teabag hadn't played football in four years. Yet all were willing to welcome them. Oku, probably got his college reality check in Knoxsville, learning there are actually many big fish in the pond and may have checked his ego in when he leaves. Finally, if Bo was going to give the TE from Washington a second chance. A kid that had been in trouble with his coaches for reasons from attitude, to failed drug tests. Why not give Oku one. Hell he'd probably contribute more to the discussion than all of RB options 3,4, and 5 combined both on and off the field.
  2. Yes, very much so. Ameer is a must have now, IMO. Agreed. Thinking the c$%ks will be the biggest threat here. Bama just got the Michigan decommit at the Army AA game, so they're out. If all goes well this weekend with him and his teammate. All we really need to do is survive the venom that the ole ball coach will throw at him.
  3. Surprising thoughts so far. Where are those(not saying it was any of you guys so far) that would welcome the likes of Tate Forcier? Or those beggin for Robert Marve? Or those that wanted one year out of a Duke point guard. I would love for those members to chime in on this one.
  4. Why because they are both white? Other than that being an obvious and fairly irrelevent point. I think he was referring to a RB that is hardnosed, always seems to fall forward, elusive, deceptively quick, great hands out of the backfield, and a player that isn't afraid to step in and block a larger blitzing LB or DLineman. All things Rex does regularly and Danny did at CSC. Cory Ross did all those things yet you never hear anyone compare Burkhead to him. Cory Ross was a bowling ball. Burkhead and Woodhead are of a similar body type. Stop trying to make this a racial thing. Grow up. You know knapplc, he is right in a way.. Pork chop did all those things. Other than the weight Cory had on Rex and DW he fights a similar battle, being vertically challenged. But I can see many people making this a racial thing. just sayin
  5. Really? I did notsee this one yet. If his grades are in line I would actually say maybe. The kid had some serious moves and game in high school. However, he always had kinda a prima donna attitude that ate up the spot light. Something, granted, that the majority of all teenagers would do. Hmm........I seriously have to think this one out before adding more. Interesting.
  6. Thanks for the shout out, but I would concede that I probably don't truely belong with those others listed. If some see fit that I am, then I am honored. I just try to add in what I know and what I think is a validated opinion that either backs a fellow member or constructively bring about a counterpoint to a discussion. This is personally why I enjoy coming to this board. People at work and some of my friends throw out banter and discussions about NU that just isn't close to be the same as it is here. Here I can throw out an opinion that will quickly be either A, agreed with, with those agreeing adding their own spin/twist with facts and whatnot that add to the discussion further, OR B, disagree and bring facts/data to back their opposing view. In my world it is the opposite, cowrokers/friends say something, I rebunk it or add my twist and then it's usually "yeah, you're right." As much as I love being right, it makes what should be great conversation short lived and boring. I respect all posters on this board, and give the "idiots" the benefit of the doubt for a few posts at least. All I have ever wanted was the same opportunity by others and it is what I have discovered occurs here. VIVA Huskerboard!!!!! And VIVA the Blue Waffle Thread!!!!!!!
  7. What?! There was a blue waffle topic and I missed it? I'm guessing it was in the woodshed. While I actually don't care to discuss blue waffle, I would like to see the drinking and driving a scissor-lift story. Who do I talk to about getting the password to the woodshed? Yes it's in there. Just PM a mod for the password, and then duck and cover.
  8. 9. Negative ghostrider the pattern is full.........of non hotties
  10. On what other board could you have a rivoting topic like the one on the BLUE WAFFLE. Classic.
  11. That is just too good right there. Green wil be the number two, the only way he would have ever seen the thought of a redshirt was if Braylon would have got here, and then it still would have been a slight chance. Personally I blame Tejas. Here is a perfect example of a Prop 48er, that could have came to college, worked on getting his claswork up to snuff and play ball. Damn you Tejas, another parting shot on the wya out the door.
  12. The thought of people wanting Tate Forcier to come here brings back those hysterical thoughts of those begging almost for Ron Paulus to come here. It's comical. As good of an athlete Tate is, 1. his grades are all kinds of screwed up. 2. Alex Henery might have more weight on the kid, 3. those who think Taylor is egotistic, this kid puts him to shame. He pouted when Dennard was named starter, threatened to quit the team then. His brothers have bounced around colleges when the situations didn't look too promissing. And if anyone needs to see a truw egotrip just go to qbforce.com. The sad thing is his dad is living through the kids. Hey there's soething else he shares in common with Taaylor, Daddy issues.
  13. I was gonna say it too. Layne Reeves for the Bball team=Tara Mueller to the volleyball team. Minnesota hit it on the head devastating hit to the hotness quota of the women's bball team.
  14. Obviously the kid is ok to play in the defensive backfield now. With Finch, Clay, Calhoun, and 5 star Brandon Williams coming in next fall I would say they are set at RB. Also what happened to wanting to stay closer to his home? Whatever, lock up your moms, wives, daughters, and sisters Norman. What? Too soon?
  15. Early mid 90's = Erick Strickland. Best athlete to don the scarlet and cream. Seriously the guy was awesome. Could have played football and baseball too. Easily
  16. Sure. And let's put the "Fire Watson" and "so-and-so" for OC threads in there while we are at it. Wait, that's like 80% of the threads on the board right now. Exactly clear up the clutter a little. And by clutter I mean recycled threads with a different title. God it is gonna be a long offseason. Please Husker baseball team do something
  17. Can we just start another forum section for all the "Bo needs to be nicer" and "We Need an offense" threads.
  18. San Diego State is already filled. Protmoted Rocky Long. The graceful polite approach is close to over for Wats. Sometimes you just have to put Ol Yeller down yourself.
  19. Bubba is not coming here. Football will always be there, but multi million dollar contracts won't. He can talk to any of the number of QB's that came back to football after baseball didn't work out. Ask 28 year old Heisman winner Wienke or Weeden at OKSt. We know nothing about Turner. Unfortunately he didn't even play QB in the all star game. The Wienke/Weeden situation does not play out here with Bubba. Completely different set of skills. Wienke and Weeden were both traditional drop back passers that almost entirely rely on their arms not their legs. Bubba is more of a run first QB. Not saying he can't throw, but he'd have to change his approach as a QB if he is thinking the baseball then football as a fallback plan. 27 year old running QBs aren't really cornering the market. As far as Turner not playing QB in the Under Armour game. ESPN's recruiting gurus and rankings strictly determine who is playing where. They had Jamal as an athlete so he pretty much had no choice with the other QBs that were at the game. Play WR or find another game. That game is straight owned by the talking heads of ESPN
  20. My biggest bugaboo with Doc's team is it is the dame couple of things every game when it comes to the losses. A cold spell at some part of the game, no consistant jump shooter, and getting killed on the offensive glass. All three again reared their ugly heads last night. Now granted Mizzou is good, but this team is missing that defensive tenacity that we've become accustomed of an Anderson coached squad. Fro, you have hinted at this in a couple of threads, and personally if the full court defense is there last night like in years past I don't think the game is ever close. The lack of a kid to be able to hit a 10-15' jumper off the dribble or off a screen is hurting a lot. Yes this isn't the milk the shot clock and throw up a contested prayer shot like the last couple of years, but still is plaguing Doc. Like I said before hopefully someone can get their stroke going. The rebounding issue is alarming. Is it just me or did the Littlest team in America hit the boards harder than this group? Diaz and Almaeda need to find a mean streak and not get pushed around every game. Saturday could be very bad with the Morris twins having their way through and around those two. MU won the board battle by two last night, but offensive boards killed any efforts the NU made at a comeback. Finally for fro who was referencing the schedule upcoming. Not hoping for much Saturday(I'll wait until KU comes up to Lincoln for a competitive game. CU at home will be tough, they did go into Manhatten and beat the Cats with Pullen. They run a wide open offense that will probably give NU some fits. Tech on the road is a MUST WIN road game. Tech has some talent(four returning starters) but are in disarray. The game with A&M looms difficult as well. Turgeon has the Aggies playing great. They own the glass, again a Husker bugaboo, they are in the top5 in rebounding and rebounding margain, and they destroyed Okie Lite last night and have beaten a VERY good Washington team. NU would easily spilt these next four, but could also drop them as well. We'll see. I hope for the best, but these same flaws that show up night after night are making me tear what little hair I have out of my head.
  21. I can see this being a top 25 preseason team but not top 20. To many questions surround what the offense can do well, loss of the most dangerous kickers/punter in the country, and secondary losses. However I also see a lot of kids returning that may help on offense that palyed last year. I think the DLine is better next year. Allen hurts, but Ankrah or Williams will shine IMO. Chase Rome joins what could be the Big X's best interior DLine rotation. The LBs when healthy are a very formible bunch. Both safeties return as well as possibly the best DB in the country next fall. Ciante saw time, and me thinks CJ comes in and provides a serious boost to the team. I can see Corey Cooper filling in for either Gomes or Hagg and it isn't as if the secondary cupboard is bare, it's talented just a little green. There are a lot of positives. As far as LSU, I can see it. They lose 1 OT, 2 WRs and a RB who wasn't their best on offense. On defense they lose Patrick Peterson, Jai Eugene, a LB and a DT. They will be stout and it's not like talent doesn't go to Baton Rouge every first Wednesday in February. Along with Bama they will be the favorites of the SEC and probably the number one spot.
  22. Yes Taylor put up very good numbers in high school, but if one goes back and checks the film a ton of his yardage came from WRs YAC. They threw a lot of short to intermediate routes and more often than not the receivers broke a tackle or two and ran. Seldom did you see Taylor throw a deep route. His coaches understood his strengths and played to them. Here at NU the strength that Wats and the coaches see is his speed and running ability. However Wats continues to play to that strength by calling the same two or three plays out of about six sets. There was no evolving of the offense while Taylor was healthy. It was the same thing and the coaches seemed set on it. It works against the poor defenses of the world that NU saw early on, but once the defenses got better and QUICKER the same crap they called over and over again stopped working. The debate as far as throwing QBs goes about as far as the fatties in front of said QB protecting them. The deal with TF, Frost and Crouch to an extent is that they all had brilliant lines and the majority of the time they were called on to pass it was off play-action often throwing to a receiver that had no one around them. WHen the seldom times came when they were forced to throw the ball was when their flaws would shine. Lone exception was probably Frost's last drive vs. Mizzou. Other than that a lot of open WRs were missed, and a lot of the time it was bad. The thing with Taylor is he(and hopefully can) needs to mature in the passing aspect sense. Pocket presence, reading defenses, locking off WRs(something he did all year, but many denied at the beginning) and knowing when to live to fight another down. To many times these items came out this year, and hopefully if he is really serious about learning from these failures, he addresses them hard this offseason. I am not a Taylor guy, I won't completely give up on the kid either though. Finally to the original topic of this whole thread. A slot receiver can easily probably be found on the roster. What ever happened to KC Hyland, a player Gilmore himself would see time last fall? The guy has the perfect size to own the middle of the field. To many kids are dying in the depth chart because they do not fit all of Gilmore's "50 things you need to be able to do to play for me" list. He has killed talent before(see Chris Brooks) and continues to do it. There are certain packages a kid could succeed in and Gilmore needs to realize this, tell Wats and then we all need to hope that Watson can incorporate these kids. However they will never get a chance until they get Gilmore's approval.
  23. The kid probably has a better career on the bball court in college
  24. It's kind of things like this which really make me want Bo to name Ek's replacement(albeit Doug Coleman or whomever). Knowing who is manning the position could do nothing but help out with a kid like Rose and any potential LB recruits for this recruiting cycle.
  25. In order for Doc's boys to pull the upset tonight here are five things that are absolutely critical for the team. Ironicly the same can be said every conference game for this team. 1. Turnover battle must be won. With Mizzou's pressure someone other than Jeter will HAVE to be able to handle the rock and make good decisions in the open floor. Here is looking at you BRich, Ray, and I think we may see some more Brown. Handling their pressure can create easy scoring chances. Also the Huskers cannot give up 15+ points on easy buckets from TOs. 2. The bigs must be physical on the glass. Mizzou's bigs have always crashed the boards hard on both ends. Diaz and Almaida must show up and be physical. 2nd chance points kill the Huskers in conference play the last couple of years. 3. The cold funk they are in from 3 point land has to end. To pull an upset you need to hit from the outside, and 4 or 5 threes a game won't cut it. With Bear probably not playing this becomes a definite concern. Hit some of those outside jumpers and the defenses start loosening up on the bigs. BRich, Drake, Jeter, Ray, and McCray can stroke pretty good it is time for two or three of these guys to heat up. 4. Get to the line and then capitalize. Another famous Big XII bugaboo for Doc's teams are free throw struggles. Get to the line put Mizzou in some foul trouble and use the free throws for a little rest. They'll need it. 5. Show up early. Mizzou will be jacked after their embarassing performance in Boulder. Don't let it get out of hand in the first 10 minutes and give youself a chance. If they can do these things, again almost a microcosm of the rest of the season as far as keys to victory, they have a chance. Match the energy of a pissed off Mizzou team playing at home early and there is a chance. Doc has went down to Columbia twice before and got the W, so he knows it can be done. A victory will do nothing but increase the positive vibes this team is trying to build. And that can only bold well for the KU game. But tonight is key, show up and give yourself a chance.
