  1. You can when their individual effort made the difference. McNeese was an individual effort. DPE had 200 more return yards than anyone in the country. In one year, one guy turned a team from one of the worst at punt returns to the best.
  2. The obvious one everyone goes to is that the coaches are different. I think that's the easy answer. For several years, especially 2014, this team was about huge individual plays/performances. GONE #80 Kenny Bell - As talented as Westercamp is, Kenny had a knack for winning the match up downfield. As fans, we would cover our eyes after seeing the back foot heave only to watch KB go full David Copperfield. He was able to get so much separation that he could adjust to a poorly thrown ball. #15 DPE (big play) - yeah DPE is back, but he has missed most of the season. He flipped the field in multiple games on his way to becoming one of the most dynamic players in the country. He was the catalyst in winning games despite stagnant performances by his team. #4 Randy Gregory - There is no doubt that he changed what other teams did on offense. I really wasn't a huge fan of Gregory but you can't deny that he had an impact. #8 AA - An NFL starter as a rookie (at least for a few weeks) that needs to be considered as one of the best running backs in Nebraska history. Much like the others listed previously, AA had moments where he put the team on his back and willed them to victory. 2014 - McNeese State - #8 won this game. This would have been one of the most embarrassing losses in school history. Miami - #8 ran for 200+ yards and the team had 14 points off TO's to win by 10. Northwestern - After a dismal first half, #15 got everything rolling and the rest of the team followed as they steam rolled NW. Rutgers - #8 ran for 228 yards. Wisconsin - Meh Minnesota - Meh Iowa - At one point the team was +3 in turnovers and losing. Won in OT. USC - The team played great, not many complaints here, but it was a loss. In my opinion, this team looks almost identical to 2014 with a few exceptions: 1. No big plays 2. They stop the run/give up huge pass plays. There is no depth and we don't have the right players. It is also reasonable to have the injuries as part of the discussion. The injuries keep players off the field and also hampers chemistry. I don't know whether Riley is the guy or not, but he got a used car with a beautiful paint job and a full detail (9 wins). We've put 500 miles on it and it leaks, knocks, pulls to the right and dies at stop lights (Reality). We have a wreck with a salvage title and we're still trying to convince ourselves that our mint car is ready for Barrett Jackson. We don't have the players that are currently able to play at the level of the playmakers that we lost. It may be on the roster, but it's not at that point yet. I think we are a solid recruiting class away.
  3. It was a default thread that popped up after every win. This is disingenuous. We had a Top 5 Secondary for nearly every year under Bo. Our run defense was atrocious, giving banner days for RB. However, QB often struggled to get to their season averages. This team is in the Top 10 against the run. It's the same farce as Bo's lock down secondary. It paints about half the picture. Make the mike Riley running back graveyard. I don't see that happening anytime soon.
  4. I believe this is what is going on as well. If POB doesn't pan out by next fall, it will be more of the same. While we freak out as fans, our coaches are just trying to get to the end of the season.
  5. Wisconsin was struggling to run the ball against us, then was able to wear us out in the 4th quarter. All it takes is a couple of big runs to boost that average. Also we kept calling runs up the middle, when our strength is the outside run. I don't believe I saw a single stretch play all game You have to score points when your defense gives them up. Your plan works great when you play shut down D.
  6. I do want to lay it on one guy, but poor/average QB game management and/or performance has plagued this program for too long. The team can't overcome this. Look at the NFL. An elite QB will allow the rest of the program more time to rebuild.
  7. Keep him at DT. He can make a difference there.
  8. Same kids that were here last year made plays in the old system, now they're not good playmakers? Sorry, don't buy that. you don't have to. No one even had to throw on the swiss cheese plan Bo put together.
  9. 58 - Heath Reineke Caddy from Happy Gilmore (Just going to stick with Golf Comedies)
  10. They are consistently not putting themselves in a position to be successful. The receivers are getting behind them or their position is so bad (hips turned wrong way) that there is not chance to recover. I was a DB in college, but I'm far from an expert. The position that several of these guys repeatedly put themselves in leverage 101. I think we the athletes, but it just hasn't come together yet. It may not.
  11. When the moved the ball the play calling was excellent. When they didn't move the ball, the play calling was suspect. I still can't believe they called that play that would have Janovich dribble the ball and then run for a first down.
