Thanks for the rec, I didn't know about the movie. I watched Alive when I was young. I was at a friend's house because we were carpooling for a softball game and I hadn't eaten breakfast and for some reason we had time for a movie and this is what she picked out. Needless to say my stomach didn't feel too good. Anyhow, this version of the story was well done. I don't remember Alive at all. I was reading about it after watching Society of the Snow and saw that Ethan Hawke was the star of the movie, which made me laugh. Almost the whole cast was American and it was all in English. You'd think in 1992 they could have found some people of Argentine or Uruguayan descent or at least Mexican descent to play the roles.

Is Romo unpopular as an announcer? I was just reading a couple paragraphs on Wikipedia. I like him way better than Collinsworth but I'm biased against him.

The Ravens are looking like clowns right now with the penalties. Announcers keep saying (paraphrasing) the Ravens were saying they wanted Mahomes to think twice about leaving the pocket (ie by hitting him hard). So they are doing that, but keep getting penalized for it and keep the Chiefs on the field. And why they think that would work on Mahomes anyway is behind me. Did they watch the playoffs at all last year? He basically had one leg.

Bad guys kill themselves so they don’t get tortured. Whether they realize they’re terrible or not has nothing to do with it. I assume most realize it though. But we’re talking about voters, and I don’t think a high % of Trump voters think they are bad guys. I know a lot of them just want to save the would-be aborted babies and nothing else matters to them.

None of this indicates the Biden administration doesn’t care. He’s requested $1.4 billion for the cities with the worst problems. They are saying they need $5 billion, but he can’t get the law to pass through the House right now. Even if it does settle down, the Republicans have a lot of gullible voters. They’ll convince them it’s emergency just like in 2015-2016 when it wasn’t one. Our government is broken right now. The Republicans didn’t want to make ACA better because it would make the Democrats look good. Their MO for years has been stay in power and trick people into hating the Democrats on various hot button issues that they usually make up. Some are actual issues but then they make up the details.

I think you are probably right. I wouldn't say zero chance, but Clinton only got 65.8MM votes when she won the popular vote. 2020 was a weird year. Biden got 81 million in 2020. I really doubt he's getting that many in 2024. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a down election as far as # of voters. In 2020 it was a HUGE increase, far more than the entire population increased in that time. The problem for Biden is people are only excited for him in order to keep Trump out. Trump's base is excited for their cult leader who the commie left is trying to lock up, and they want to save him so he can save their country. So maybe Trump wins 68MM to 66MM. And if he wins the popular vote there's almost no chance Biden wins the Electoral, unless he's super lucky in where his voters live. In looking at these #s again for the first time since 2020... it's so f#&%ing bats#!t crazy Trump has convinced people the election was stolen. He lost by SIX MILLION VOTES. 51.3% to 46.9%. It was more than twice the margin (percentage-wise) Clinton won the popular vote by in 2016.

A lot of politics right now is who is best at tricking you into having a certain impression. The Republicans are really good at it.
