  1. Exactly, which makes it hard for me to understand why so many people are jumping on the D like they lost a game for us. I think Fresno was our toughest non con matchup because they are good at adjusting and they have played good teams (Wisconsin) extremely tough
  2. Nope, but only because Suh was a beast. I believe that Fresno did a lot to cause our D line to be ineffective. We'll see. Too early to tell
  3. I think at last count it was 9. However, the Iowa game could still hold a lot of water...so while the ISU win was huge, it by all means doesn't deflate the potential meaning for the Iowa Nebraska match up
  4. No doubt in my mind he will. I've been saying it before: I would rather have our defense be the unit giving us problems in these non con games because I know it will be fixed come next week.
  5. They say not getting enough Vitamin D is bad for you.
  6. Thing is: we're trying to run the peso with Blatchford and he is terrible at doing it.
  7. Not to mention the numerous missed holding calls...that usually helps too. I still want to say that Fresno managed to keep us off balance. We toned that down in the second half but still it is a little concerning. But we were like this last year and then we started playing lights out.
  8. It all boils down to the teams we have played. I think offensively, UTC and Fresno were both better offensively than WKU and Idaho. Defensively we aren't going to make up for the loss of Gomes Hagg and Amukamara in one year. So honestly, I think we're on par from last year to this year after the first two games. Hopefully we're better in conference this year.
  9. I'm with you on this one EZ. It certainly does make sense that once we had to run the offense we wanted to see we ran it pretty well. I don't think Bo wanted to let the offense roll like that until we had to. More or less we were just trying to execute the smaller plays better (which I can honestly say we didn't). But I loved the improvement I saw from 1st to 2nd half on offense. Also notice how even though Fresno State moved the ball on us, the only TD they got in the second half was from a nice catch off a nice pass, something I wouldn't be too ashamed of giving up.
  10. Yeah, I play streak for the cash on ESPN and I just thought of a prop for this game. NCAAF (Washington @ #10 Nebraska): Which statistic will record a HIGHER Total: Nebraska: Sacks and Turnovers or a tie Washington: Points I'd be tempted to pick the Sacks and Turnovers or tie line. Polk is about your only good player...and you don't have Locker...that's all that will matter when Nebraska's DLine comes at you. Nebraska 56 UDumb 3
  11. Seems like we're doing a good job running Tim Beck out of town. Temper down. We're 2-0 and put more points up against a better defense. I'd rather have Bo be working on the defense than be having a whole ton of problems on the offense while playing lights out on D.
  12. I'd rather have us be ranked where we are playing the way we are playing the way we are, then have one good game only to fall flat against a team we should have beaten. I am a firm believer that we will improve from this week to next and will be ready to go for the Wisconsin game. Wait and see.
  13. I have yet to be wrong in my Husker predictions. We're going to keep growing and are going to hit our plateau at the right moment. I don't want to be peaking right now, but rather, by the Wisconsin game and through the rest of the season. Every team has a point in the season where it thinks all is for naught, but they adjust and end up having a great season. Nebraska is going to be one of those teams. Mark my words.
  14. 1) The offensive line generated more of a push against a better rated front 4, but not near enough to be able to perform and succeed running the ball through the gap in the B1G. Remember, this unit has yet to be called for a holding penalty and to me, this is why they aren't exactly generating as good of a protection as they could be. 2) Taylor Martinez is fast. However he still hasn't and probably won't this year master the QB position that most Husker fans want to see (that is staying in the pocket and waiting for things to happen rather than just take off running when receivers aren't open. Taylor is still going through a growing phase and it was evident at points throughout this game. For example, the PA pass in the first half (second quarter maybe) when he rolled out and decided to just throw it to Cotton which wound up being intercepted just looked like he was going to Cotton no matter what. He needs more time and eventually it will come to him. On that note: 3) Taylor has matured to the point where he has the ability to make the right reads. For example, the option play which gave us our 6th TD, that was a beautiful decision to keep the ball and take off. I don't think he would've made that play last year. He also made great passes to Jamal Turner and some other passes which were slightly overthrown. Yeah he does lob it and it takes a while for the deep ball to get there, but let's face it, he's not a throwing QB and never will be. He may have the ability to throw, but it won't be like Blaine Gabbert or Landry Jones or Kellen Moore ability. It's the best he's got ATM and that's what we're stuck with. 4) Rex Burkhead can be tough to stop even when running the ball up the middle. He's shifty enough to make LBs miss and that will prove to be very useful come conference play. I want to see him to get more carries rather than have Taylor run it all the time. There were times where he was oh so very close to breaking a big run. 5) WRs haven't proven that they have improved. Still dropped catches, but maybe we can't expect them to be perfect. WRs aren't a strong part of the team and that's something we're going to have to live with it. However: 6) Jamal Turner is showing that he could be a bright spot operating out of the slot and I hope that we keep him in that position for the rest of the year. 2 big BIG catches for him setup two very VERY crucial TDs. 7) Kyler Reed has once again proven that opposing defenses can not sleep on him. That call to go deep to him was nice to see, although it reminded me of the Watson years, but I digress. That was a play I enjoyed greatly. 8) Defensive line didn't generate as much pressure as they normally should. I don't know if that's a concern or if it was just a bad match up against a team who runs an offense which exploits and eliminates certain aspects of our games. Hard to tell. 9) Same thing really goes with our LB core as well. I don't know if it was the opposing offense which gave us problems. I know Robbie Rouse (sp?) is a highly underrated running back and we're going to face more RBs like him in the B1G, but I think it was his (Rouse's) ability to run the ball as well as the style of offense which Fresno State played that gave the LBs and DLine problems. Again, only time will tell. 10) Secondary needs Dennard back. Aaron Green (dunno if that's the right Green) will then be pushed to the 3rd spot giving Ciante and Dennard the 2 and 1 spot respectively. I think that will help the secondary lock down the WRs more successfully. But, with that: 11) Fresno State has a hell of a QB who made all the right throws. That's not something we're going to see every week in the B1G, and he is certainly one of the better QBs we'll face all year. He knew how to run the offense and anytime a QB knows how to do that, it makes things difficult on the opposing team. 12) And let's not forget that Fresno State is a highly overachieving team and coach Pat Hill always finds a way to get his guys to match their opponents skill levels. This game was our hardest non-con test and we passed it. Things could have gone much worse. 13) Tim Beck has the ability to play with what the defense gives him and makes the defense adjust to his play calling. I thought he called a fantastic second half and I don't think Shawn Watson would've been as successful at trying to shake things up after halftime. Games like these against Fresno State are games we would've lost in the prior 2 years, but we won and that is really comforting to see. And finally: 14) This team proved that it is resilient and can come back from a less than stellar half and play their hearts out. Like I said, games like this against Fresno State are ones we would have lost in the past 2 years. Miserable first half turned into a fantastic second half offensively. 15) Personally, I would rather have our defense be the unit that needs to be fixed rather than the offense. Watch for this team to come out, perform like it did in the second half against Fresno State in the first half, and then shut the Huskies down offensively. Oh yeah: 16) Ameer Abdullah is my hero. Love that guy on special teams play And to note the stadium: 17) Fantastic atmosphere throughout. I thought the crowd (the whole stadium, not just the student sections) was loud for the entire game, urging their team onto victory. I thought that was great and I hope that that same intensity is repeated next Saturday against Washington. That's what I've learned from the Fresno State game, a very positive experience and result for our team.
  15. Its obvious that they're lacking coaching, but with Dennard back Green will only be in on certain formations. Honestly, nothing to be too concerned about until Dennard comes back in. Fresno State ran some very sneaky plays that wound up gaining big yards
  16. It'll probably be in the 4th Quarter but OSU will end up winning the game.
  17. I was walking towards class when one flew over hamilton (for those of us who know campus) and banked a hard left...everyone was just looking up...some covered their ears...i stood there like a kid. Interrupted one of my lectures during class too haha
  18. I love how the doormats of the Big XII are making a fuss of Texas A&M leaving
  19. If it weren't a night game I would freak out if they flew another Stealth Bomber over like they did against Kansas in 08. Hopefully the Blue Angels do fly over, but I'll take something more than what they had for the UTC game. And yeah, they should have something big for the Ohio State game. Maybe we should have a prediction contest: **Predict the aircraft to fly over Memorial for the Fresno State Game**
  20. It did seem like the commercials were long as the breaks were long (gave me a reason to sit down however)
  21. They just want Texas to be ranked when they lose to UCLA again
  22. I have no problem with why people are criticizing the team. Just because we won doesn't mean that people aren't allowed to criticize. I have a problem with those who have judged this whole season based upon the performance of 3/4ths of the team in the FIRST game. Certainly there were breakdowns on the offensive front, and the WRs didn't catch the balls, and some of Taylor's throws/decisions weren't the best. That doesn't mean that the season is going to be automatically worse than last year. You don't see Bo freaking out about how the offense is going to fall flat on its face; sure he said it was pretty sloppy, and I'll agree with his assessment, but there were a lot of goods to come out of the game to that i think a lot of people are ignorant of. It wasn't ALL bad. Adapting a new offensive scheme is a process, it's going to take some time and won't be in place by the first game of the season, which is why thank God they scheduled a team where they could fail to execute against and still win. People want to see perfection and they want to see it right away, because that's the best Nebraska that most of the fans know. Me, a fan that is relatively new (as of 2003-ish) know that Nebraska is capable of being National Champions, but I take it week by week. They're going to improve, just give it time.
  23. I don't care if E. Washington won the Div 2 National Championship last year, to say that they could beat half of the teams in the Pac 12/Big 10 is a little too much credit. That means they could beat Utah, USC, Arizona State, Washington State (probably), UCLA, Cal, Illinois, Indiana (maybe), Purdue (probably), Minnesota, Northwestern, and Michigan. Washington barely beat them, and that should raise some concerns from their fans. It would've been okay if they would've lost by 10 or more, but by a FG, that's a little too close. Last year's Holiday Bowl was a good confidence booster for UDub, but I honestly don't think NU came into that with a whole lot of motivation. Take that and the fact that we're under a completely different OC and Washington should be in for a rude awakening come Week 3.
