  1. ^This. Lots of coaches + support staff travel with teams, and you have the local kids. Tough to make their families fend for themselves during a potential disaster. I wish they could have figured out a different time to play it. That game meant a lot as a home game to ASU. Maybe they can play it a different year.
  2. I think that is a stretch because of the close loses, knocking off a top 5 team and a bowl win, but that is just my opinion.
  3. Really? An unimpressive win is a lower point than a 70-10 beatdown from Texas Tech? Or lower than giving up a then NCAA rushing record? Or a couple other Wisconsin games? Was McNeese State your previous low point?
  4. The "story" is that he has looked good in camps, on the scout team, and in practices. Those are opinions of the observers. The only way the story cannot be true is if those observers are lying about what they see. I doubt it. Saying that, we will know "the rest of the story" when we see actual game action.
  5. Some fans are working to recreate it. They are hoping to exchange it between student groups and/or have it displayed in a willing bar in the respective cities.
  6. Nothing we can do about the last two years. I guess I prefer to look at the positive. How much of an improvement could we see with only improved communication? I think it could be a lot.
  7. Different eras, different college football landscapes. Tough to compare. Saban won his first title in his 9th year as a "P5" coach. Osborne got his first in his 22nd year. Saban has 5 titles in 18 years and is going for his 6th. Osborne finished with 3 in 25 years. Not sure how you can't give the edge to Saban. I will say that Alabama is willing to go that extra step to have a winner. How many ex-HCs do they have as "consultants"?
  8. Not surprised. Riley has made negative comments about ST in interviews. Sucks to get fired, but I wouldn't feel too bad for Read. $450K for 2 years plus a buyout after showing no positive results? Hope he was smart with his money.
  9. Lower than that prestigious Foster Farms Bowl after a losing season? WTF?
  10. Iowa and Wisconsin have more talent where it matters most, OL and DL. Probably LB also. Yipee, we have better WRs. It's more embarrassing to say we have more talent. It sure doesn't show, or we for sure can't develop it like they do.
  11. Nebraska - Obviously Minnesota OSU Penn State Colorado Nebraska-Colorado Rose Bowl?
  12. "We don't have a rival" is pretty much another way of saying, "We haven't been good enough". A rivalry needs a catalyst to heat things up. One team should break another team's heart and ruin a potentially great season on occasion. Would be best if those games had national title, or even conference title implications. We had a chance to spoil Iowa's "best ever" season last year, but couldn't do it. We weren't good enough and haven't been for a while. Dear Iowa Fan, please be careful and don't freeze to death while camped out in the Walmart parking lot for Black Friday door buster sales. Not sure why or how, but I'm sure you have loved ones that care. :-P
  13. We're not terrible. We're not fantastic. Would have liked to see a stronger finish Happy for Fyfe. I wasn't even thinking about the Foltz Grand Island connection before the game. Glad Tommy sat with the hope he can go Friday.. We are going to need him.
  14. I'm going to be honestly upset if the chair "disappears". It's the most famous and well known rivalry trophy we play for.
  15. tOSU fans are saying they will be in anyway. I'm not so sure.
  16. Officially worried. Glad to hear TA might be starting. Hope he's 100% healthy and effective.
  17. Ran into a team that found their A game after looking underwhelming for a while. Not real fair to say "But Indiana, but Northwestern, etc." When it's obvious tOSU hasn't had their A games since OU. Would have still lost with our A game versus theirs, but not a blowout. Not even close to the same talent and depth. Couldn't beat their 2nd string. (Tommy still being in the game would have helped that.) JT Barrett is the real deal when he's on. Was putting balls in tight spaces, and the receivers were catching them. Aaron Williams (24) had a rough game. Really looked bad when trying to bump that receiver down after the long pass. Receivers didn't compete for 50/50 balls. Was nice being in the top 10 while it lasted. Probably won't see it again unless we win out including a bowl game. Record is what I thought it would be at this point. I learned it's much better for me to sleep on it before commenting.
  18. Is that some new term exclusive to your HS coaches? Haha no. I know it's a widely used term, just heard it over and over and over again in practice.
  19. Frost and Green ran the option as well as any QB/RB duo. Frost wouldn't even have to look to make the pitch. He knew exactly where Green would be. What my HS coaches called "pitch relationship." Loved/hated how the OU QBs could get the pitch off while being tackled.
  20. My attitude about Iowa has changed now that I work with a few Iowa fans. I want to beat them badly, and want them to lose every game. Even going back to the Big8 days I thought we should play them every year. I think some fans have the same attitude about Iowa as they did about Colorado. That calling them a "rival" is somehow beneath us. We wanted to hold on to the Oklahoma rivalry despite it being more important to us than it was to them. Unless Oklahoma ends up in the Big10, that rivalry will only be a fond memory. When the annual Nebraska-Oklahoma series ended, I thought we should have embraced the Colorado games. We had some close ones despite the records. Iowa just seems like a "natural" rivalry fit. Some geographic fan base crossover. Closest Big10 opponent. 3-2 Since joining the Big10. Smug fan base even after a few losses. They don't "think" they will still beat us this year, they "know."
  21. Of course no one would be happy if we lost. But don't you think people would be much more frustrated with a blowout loss than a tight game that we end up losing by a couple of points? Did you feel the same after the 70-31 blowout loss to Wisconsin in the 2012 CCG as compared to last year when we got edged 23-21? Both of those losses sucked. My reaction at the B1G blowout loss was more of "you gotta be kidding me" and I stopped watching it and joined my wife and friends for a Christmas party on our block that night. My reaction last year was "man, another crappy loss by this poorly coached team (and NU was very poorly coached last year) to a very average Wisconsin team". My feelings don't waver too much either way whether it's a blowout or a close loss. I just want to see wins. I guess I have a different take. Sure, I hate to lose as much as anyone. (Well, not as much as you, I guess, for the close ones anyway.) But a blowout loss bums me out more than a close loss. When I go over a close loss afterwards I think of the things we need to change or improve on to win. By contrast it's hard to even think about a blowout loss. Just too many things to fix to be able to figure out how we could have possibly won. Not that I would be happy with any loss, but a blowout loss will bring out all the, "I told you they were overrated" fans and media. Would see much less of that if the team hangs tough for 4 quarters.
  22. I would have rather had them undefeated and slightly looking ahead. Whatever though. It's why you play the games.
  23. Good god, that's Herbie Husker's music!!! Awesome!
  24. Would have been best to do it a few weeks ago. Get them some game experience. Not sure throwing them into the fire against Wisconsin is the best idea. May not have a choice though.
