  1. I'm pretty sure the crowd is so small they have the mics turned way up. When there is actual noise, they have to turn them down.
  2. Frost was the WR coach under Kelly, not the OC. Not many WR coaches make the jump straight to HC. Frost had been mentioned for HC jobs previously. Sounds like he was waiting for the best opportunity when he thought he was ready.
  3. Let's blow up this argument into a billion little pieces by way of substitution: QUESTION: "If Danny Woodhead is so amazingly awesome, why did he go to Chadron State? Didn't he have any other major offers?" ANSWER: Because sometimes 180 different college coaches don't put down the tape measure, clipboard, and the recruiting star charts long enough to see what is actually in front of them. Yes, conventional wisdom sometimes lacks the "wisdom" part, and it is possible for everybody can come up with the wrong answer at the same time. By the way, congratulations to Danny Woodhead on his three touchdown effort in the NFL today. Maybe Stanton can play at that level, maybe not, but at least he's getting his chance. Comparing Stanton to Woodhead is laughable. Woodhead was an undersized 0* from western Nebraska with no D1 offers. Stanton was a 3/4* from So Cal with multiple D1 offers. Any D1 team with an immediate need at QB would be scouring the jucos. It's interesting that no one else offered. It's not a knock on Johnny, it's just a fact. IMO, the knee injury scared teams away If teams are interested can't they have physicals done? And in cases like this, check the specific injury and how well it healed? Or do teams routinely not bother with this sort of thing? Common practice in the NFL, but I would guess the rules are different for college. I don't know if schools can "demand" a physical or bring a kid in just for a physical. I'm sure they schools do their own investigating, but have to rely quite a bit on what the family tells them. HIPAA laws and all that.
  4. I will take any opponent and like it. Time slot is pretty good also. We could be playing an early afternoon game on a weekday.
  5. Record in those years added. I'm no math wizard but that looks like a winning record to me. nm
  6. Should have put Calvin Johnson back there.
  7. It will be interesting to see what he can do recruiting late in the game. It looks like they currently have 6 commitments.
  8. Would explain why he'd only be a co-head coach here. Would be difficult to be full time at both places Nebraska and Miami to play on alternating Fridays and Saturdays.
  9. This gets posed all the time, and frankly I think it's a dumb question. Him being a Nebraska native that played here is part of his resume to look at as a potential head coach at Nebraska. He's a great coach in his own right, but him being a hometown boy that knows the culture, a former player that knows the program, and a good man that would embrace the values and the characteristics of the state are important. Would Michigan have hired Brady Hoke if he wasn't a Michigan Man? Would Urban have jumped back into coaching for any job other than his homestate school? You don't think Bama will come calling to Dabo Swinney when Saban hangs it up? Would Pat Fitzgerald or Mike Gundy have essentially lifetime job security if they didn't play at NW or OSU respectively? So a good reason for the Frank Solich hire is because he played here? Or to have Turner Gill here as a head coach. Would it be great to bring back the hometown kid who won a national championship?? Sure, but I don't need a hometown kid for me to feel better about the program. I just want the coach who is going to win here. He has ZERO head coaching experience this year and the last couple years he's called plays he had arguably the best QB in the NCAA. Let's see what he can do on his own before we crown him. Lawrence, I didn't realize they gave you internet access in the hole, and are you still mad that Frosty started banging Kate McEwen after you and her broke up? No problems with Frost. I'm a 27 year old fan so I was just a youngin when Frost was playing at Nebraska. Just guess I'm not a real big fan of hiring a guy just because he lived and went to school at NEB. I get it he had success at Oregon with a Heisman winning QB. I think the timing was pretty good for him because he was looking at the QB depth chart for Oregon and saw what was coming in the next couple years. Oregon does have two 4-star dual-threat QBs committed right now. One of which it looks like Frost flipped from Nebraska to Oregon. But yeah, still freshman.
  10. NU vs KSU would do OK as far as TV ratings go. Lots of story lines to play-up. Much better than something like NU vs Middle Tennessee and KSU vs Utah St.
  11. 8-4 Win one we shouldn't. Lose one we shouldn't.
  12. But that's how it is at all schools. You want your former hero players to return. Then again, we at Nebraska seem to have even more of that inclination than other schools. : Michigan likes their "Michigan Men". Many of them were clamoring for Les Miles before the Harbaugh hire.
  13. Would have been odd to face Frost next year as the Oregon OC. And yes I know that the Oregon offense is kind of a hand-me-down and won't change a whole lot next year.
  14. Literally no one is saying Fyfe is an answer to any prayers. Unless you were praying for a 7-5 season. All anyone is seeing is "lol 4 ints against Purdue". He was throwing a nice ball and making good reads early. The defense couldn't make a stop so we had to start chucking it. Although I do think we panicked and went to the Air Raid offense a little early. Here, I took up the dutiful task of looking at the first page of the thread for you. Good job. I'm no seeing the prayers or people saying we would win the conference or even division with Fyfe. Having the opinion Fyfe would have done better than Armstrong doesn't mean you think he would be a savior.
  15. Participation Ribbons for everyone!!!! YAY!!!!! Don't hate the playa, hate the game. It's fine if you think there are too many bowl games, But if they are going to have 40 bowl games and not enough 6-win teams to fill them, someone has to play. $$$

  17. Mandel is talking about the Rose Bowl which isn't a playoff bowl this year. I feel that if UNC beats Clemson, they should be in the playoff.
  18. K-State is almost certainly going bowling. If they win, they will have 6 wins. If they lose, they open up a bowl opportunity for the next team on the APR list - which is K-State Playing the purple wizard one more time would also be fun.
  19. Nebraska vs Missouri would be a dream matchup for one of these lower tier bowls. They don't have to advertise the team records. Plenty of highlight footage out there to use also.
  20. I posted this in another thread. It's another strike against the coaches. With their poor run defense, have him throw about ~15 times against Purdue. Let him gain some confidence in live action to be a competent backup. Not sure what his confidence is like after the 4 ints. Yes our defense played very bad, but run the ball and keep our defense off the field.
  21. Tons of openings. Guys will be moving from mid to upper tier. Will Frost take one of the "mid" jobs or wait?
  22. This cethan carter was open crap is just that. He was a third or fourth option on a silly play call. In a situation like that, where a d is coming on a 4 and 1 play, a qb doesn't have time to work through three+ progression. He went with where the play was designed to go based on the coverage scheme. QBs at that level don't "look for and throw to who is open." They throw to who should be in a favorable coverage match up based on pre snap and immediately following snap reads. That's what made the call so bad; on 2nd and 6, that's not the wrong throw to make. But on 4th and 1, maybe it is (or isn't if completed). Why put that on a QB to sort out, especially if he's as bad as some of you claim? Awful coaching. Is this where the problem is? It was talked about after the first and goal play from the 4 against MSU. The one TA threw into the flat that got killed. It was said to be a run/pass option but TA either read the pre-snap or post-snap wrong. Is TA good at reading those things? I don't think so. I agree that the fade shouldn't have even been an option in that situation. It reminds me too much of the Illinois run/pass (but don't pass) play. That doesn't excuse TA for the 2 balls he threw right at the defenders.
  23. I'm usually the first to point out that a kid hasn't taken a college snap yet. We've been down that road. I'm willing to take my chances with POB at this point though. He sure looks like a Big 10 QB.
  24. Don't disagree on the backup situation, but I still think a benching, partial or full game, was warranted. To me the question is more about what is best to develop the team? I would rather make a tough decision that sends a message than erode your stature as the HC and continue to start an insubordinate young man. I'm even more upset now with how they handled Fyfe in the Purdue game. Have the kid throw it ~15 times that game to get a feel for live action and maybe he comes out of the game with some confidence as a competent backup.
