  1. The best thing that Riley did for his fans was go 5-7 his first regular season. That set the bar for HIM, even though the minimum bar for all other Husker coaches have been 8-9 wins.
  2. Exactly right. The right coach deserves to stay when he produces the football success that as fans, we want to see on Saturdays. Find that coach, and hopefully he sticks around at NU for 10 years. Anything beyond that is gravy. Also, I wouldn't necessarily call the Pelini tenure an "revolving door". He was at NU 7 years, and that was plenty of time to show what he was as a coach. He was a good coach, who was able to have "good years", but he wasn't a great coach, and when you combine that with his boorish behavior, it was time for him to go.
  3. I get it, Riley is a nice guy, but he has shown the entire state that he isn't really a good coach. Now, things could end up very differently than we think right now, but he's on his way to another losing season, or best case scenario 6-6 or 7-5 season. That's a lot of losing!!!
  4. You develop young fans by winning. Young fans aren't going to care or even know who the coach is. They just like seeing the team in the red uniform wins games and championships. Even as kids develop into teenagers and prospective students at UNL, they are still only going to care how good the program is playing and whether it's a fun atmosphere on Saturdays.
  5. Flying from Omaha or Lincoln to Orlando isn't like flying to Asia. I am sure TO can even use a private jet, if needed. Also, TO was retiring, not forced out. Yes, TO was surprised that Perlman didn't ask for his opinion on the next AD, but it wasn't a force out.
  6. Seaofred, thanks for the answer. It was much more than I expected, but I appreciate your comments for the positives and negatives.
  7. Other than supporting the Nebraska football team, players, and coaches, what exactly makes you believe in Riley? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but what are the specifics that make you believe in Riley being a good coach at NU?
  8. I wonder if Tanner Lee ever gets pigeon crap on him during the games.
  9. I made that point above, and I think Lee's biggest issue is handling pressure and making good decisions/throws. Omaha radio guys are saying that "Lee is seeing ghosts in the pocket" because he's been under pressure. I understand that's the toughest thing for a QB to do, but the coaches need to figure out how well the QB can take pressure or take a hit. I remember a story about Zac Taylor and Harrison Beck during the pre-season camp in 2006. In one practice, the coaches were sending the defensive guys to just level the QBs. On one play, Beck got clobbered by Adam Carriker, and Beck just walked off the field. Beck basically lost the battle for the #1 QB with Taylor on that play, and Beck turned out to do nothing in his college career. Meanwhile, Taylor showed amazing toughness for 2 years at NU, taking hits in the pocket, and never backing down.
  10. No kidding. I don't think any coach should be able to replace nearly 100% of his original coaching staff within 3 years and keep his job. Eventually the axe has to come for the head coach, which it should.
  11. I just heard this on a The Bottom Line podcast from earlier today. Nebraska is averaging 17.5 incompletions per game, which ranks 116th in college football. Based on NU's average of 75.8 plays per game, that's 23% of the offensive plays that are getting no yards production. It's no wonder why the offense is struggling.
  12. I wish I could never see the word toxic on this board ever again.
  13. It was a great and fun win. I was screaming with my kids and family when the last 2 minutes of the game happened. But there were fortunate plays in the game for NU to win. I don't think there is any reason to get all bent out of shape about it either way.
  14. I don't think there is an obvious, internal candidate for interim AD right now. Word is they are looking at Dave Rimington, who may have desire to stay with the athletic department in some capacity, if he's not hired as the full-time AD.
  15. The current line seems about right. NU lost at Illinois 2 years ago. NU was losing 16-10 entering the 4th quarter last year. NU has a short week, while Illinois is coming off a bye week, so they will be able to see every NU tendency on film. With the way the team is going, I think Riley only has one way of trying to win games this year, and that's trying to keep the game close and then try to make enough plays in the 4th quarter to win.
  16. Plus, it's much easier to be a statue QB when you have the green jersey on and you know you're not going to get hit.
  17. In Omaha, I think it was around 49 cents for a hamburger, and 59 cents for a cheeseburger when I was a kid. I do remember being in high school, and we stopped at McDonald's for some lunch before going swimming at this old rock quarry in Ashland. McDonald's had a special on their cheeseburgers so I bought 8 of them to eat throughout the day. Yes, I was kind of a fat kid.
  18. I was listening to the game on the radio at this point, and they never mentioned that POB was warming up, so I take that post on the other board as fake news. Of course, I could be wrong. Rutgers only had the ball for 3 plays before punting, so maybe POB didn't have enough time to get fully warmed up.
  19. I fail to see the logic in many of the decisions this coaching staff makes.
  20. I was watching the first half at a sports bar, and on this play I yelled "run you statue!!!". Now, Spielman did make a great play to adjust his route and Lee made a great play for the TD pass, but Lee could have easily ran for a first down and more.
  21. It was 17-14 after the Pick Six, but that's just me nitpicking. However, the above is a great analysis. We have heard more talk from Riley about making things simpler for his QB. Why do they make it so hard on their QB's to begin with? Why not have their QB's and the rest of the offense master part of the offense, before expanding it further?
  22. I wish I could plus 1 million for that GIF. #morestepbrothers
  23. Honestly, I don't think Riley doesn't get involved in who starts and who gets how many snaps. I think he leaves everything up to his position coaches to make those decisions. Sometimes, I think he's listening to his favorite jazz album on his headset, rather than communicating with the coaches.
  24. This will be one game where I expect it to be close on the scoreboard. Paul Chryst isn't going to run the score up on his buddy, Riley. I expect Wisconsin to get up by two scores, and then go really conservative on offense (as long as they are still up by 2 scores).
