  1. IMO Bo's not going to try and replace David, he'll just scheme it a little differently. So, I agree big time with those that say the DL will be the difference. He's got to turn them loose a little more. Get better push on the pocket. Rome is going to be a great player, but there were times he got buried. It's not his fault as he was forced to play a lot earlier and still needs to get bigger and stronger. He'll add a little more this off season so he will be better. It will be a big help to get Williams in the mix. Also most players have a good senior yr so I expect Baker to step it up a little. RE's is where we need the most improvement though. I hope Cam & Emart lose a little weight. They didn't look good at their weights. I think Ankrah was starting to come on at the end of the season and was starting to make plays. Carter should know now what he needs to do and I hope he makes a jump. As other's have said. If this line can get pressure and are allowed to make more plays that will help out our DB's and LB's The LB's should be better as a group. Santos, Zaire, Rose & Slaughter are in the mix at WLB. I think they could also play Fischer at WLB and have Whaley play SLB if they had too. I am hoping Fischer comes on strong this year and that last year's play was due to the leg. I am hoping his senior year brings out the best in him. Whaley was starting to come on late last year. Roach should be back from injury. Compton was doing well as the season went along to and I am hoping he has a Dillard type of senior season. Hopefully better play from the group makes up for the play of David. I think it will. I think getting more athleticism on the field at safety will help too. They just need to get coached up. I think Bo is going to help out there this spring. I'd like to see them play more zone next year. At corner getting Mo was HUGE.
  2. Actually it might be a walkon from Missouri - Richards, but then again you could be right as Dean might be healthy this coming year. Whoever is the best guy will play, I don't care who it is as long as they are good. I am hoping our more experienced guys step up.
  3. Looks like most of the team was just going through the motions in the 2nd half. With a team full of JR and SR's you would think they would show more poise and not do some of the silly things they are doing. I don't think they should be putting Fox out there. Put Rivers out there and let him develop, it can't hurt anything. I have been very patient and supportive of this basketball administration but I have run out of hope. I thought the recruiting class might save him, but I see no big names that they are in on from Rivals. They are in on a few 3 stars but that's not going to cut it. I am now in agreement with those who say make the change now. I have hopped the fence and I am ready for a change.
  4. Doc needs to get Nebraska's name out there on a bunch of 5 star recruits lists to visit the best facilities in America. He could email CD's & videos of cuts by of the half dozen TV play by play guys that have gushed about our facilities. Because like all sales you got to have leads, leads leads and get your product in front of them.
  5. Offense QB - Martinez RB 1 - Burkhead FB - Marrow LT - Moore LG - Choi C - Long RG - Arod RT - Sirles TE 1 - B. Cotton WR - Enunwa WR - Bell Defense RE - Meredith DT - Steinkuhler DT - Rome LE - Ankrah Sam - Fischer Mike - Compton Will - Anderson CB - Green CB - Seisay SS - Stafford FS - Smith Special Teams We all know Maher will be K & P PR - Abdullah KR1 - Abdullah KR2 - Marlowe
  6. Since we had a smaller scholarship class this year, it was there intent to sign a larger walkon class. The football squad is bound by locker room space so there is a limit there. I don't think you will see a squad over 150.
  7. Tmart improved in several areas as the season went along. I hope his next improvement areas in the off season will be footwork/body mechanics in his passing and during spring/fall drills I hope he works on his pocket presence...if you can do that.... Another thing would be to get some forward body lean to him when he's running in traffic. I think that will save him more than the sliding they have had him doing, which he doesn't have the knack for. I think we will be have a tough time at OSU, MSU and Michigan at home. 2-4 losses seems like a reasonable guess at this point. I think our offense will be a little better. The WR's are better. The OL should be solid if they get the center position figured out. TMART will be better and will have more competition and depth there. RB's will be better. TE's will be better. Defensively it hurts to lose David & Dennard & Crick but the staff knows were they are weak now and I think will iron some things out in the spring and fall. Having been through a B1G season will help too as they know what to expect. Getting Seisay was huge and I think the secondary is going to get ironed out. The biggest thing I worry about is pass rush and pressure on the QB. We were crappy at that. I think they need to dial up a few more blitzes or get better push on that pocket.
  8. I really like the touchdown to interception ratio. Outstanding. Sounds like he is a good field general.
  9. I look for the "Armstrong to Westerkamp" combination to become one of my favorite things to hear in the coming years.
  10. I thought I read somewhere this was self-reported and that these are penalties that Nebraska proposed. I would think the NCAA would reflect positively on the institutional control that Nebraska displayed vs some other institutions in the cesspool conference known as the $EC.
  11. I was happy when I heard that JP was giving up RC & ST duties not because he wasn't doing a good job, but because that strikes me as a pretty full plate and I would think that recruiting duties would be the task to suffer when work priorities conflict. I was thinking splitting up those duties between 2 people would be a good thing and less of a burden. You would have more time to dedicate to that work. I am sure Els will do a fine job, but I think splitting up those things would be a more effective approach? For those who have experience with this sort of stuff is my thinking wrong? One thought in favor of combining these would be your coordinators would spend more time in the office and since the ST guy is in the office you might as well have him do RC work as well. Your non-coordinators would be the guys that would be on the road more. Frankly I think the NCAA should allow the director of football operations to be the recruiting coordinator, but that makes too much sense. Thoughts?
  12. Pelini generally likes bigger DB's because they like physical play on the WR's. That might be part of the reason why we are hearing about Heard rather than Ameer being moved to help the DB's. Ameer could play tight coverage, but might not be able to check the WR off the line when they play zones. Plus they like to bump in man coverage.
  13. I think this year's recruiting class (2013) will be more of a determinant than this season. The practice facilities have been built, they need to generate excitement going into the new arena. If they can't do it winning they have to do it with star power. Doc needs to get a bunch of very high profile impact recruits to visit and verbal. If he can ink some stars that will save him. Bottom line it has to start there to compete in the B1G. He's got one of the best facilities in the nation so he isn't handicapped anymore. He has to demonstrate that he can recruit top talent with these new facilities. Big names will get more butts in the seat sooner rather than later. I think he only has this one class to prove it.
  14. I think he will be a great player for Nebraska. I think he may have been overlooked a bit because he may not be the best pass blocker right now and needs to get a little bigger and stronger. It's obvious from his film that he is outstanding at pulling, getting to the second level and blocking LB/safety types. (It's not always easy for a lineman to get on those quick DB's.) In other words he's perfect for guard! Give him 2 years in the weight room/training table and development time for pass-pro and we will be talking about him like they are about Long. I really like this guy. Steal of the class.
  15. They need to offer and sell him early. Lots of interest for him already.
  16. +1 Could be a heck of an H-back. Good athlete.
  17. Els as S.T. Coordinator is logical, I like the move. Between Kaz and Garrison, I would go with Kaz just based off the fact that he has more experience. Probably has a bigger network of contacts. Also, I think he got a fairly hefty salary so a little more on his plate makes sense. Don't know who is the best evaluater, or who is the most organized or works the hardest which are probably bigger factors....
  18. Agree. Promoting J.P should help in his retention and the transition will be easier for the players and for the staff. It is a good challenge for him. I also think his plate was a little too full with DL, RT & ST duties. Now they will be able to divvy up those duties. I think the recruiting coordinator will be a little busier this year as they will have a bigger class to fill. I think that means concentrating on a larger pool of players and getting more players to sign earlier rather than later. Obviously Coach Kaz made an impression on Bo last year as it was reported they talked during last years shakeup. He has good DL coaching experience and inroads to Florida recruiting. Has experience with B1G foes and midwest cultures. Reported to be a good technician. Reported to be very intense. We will have to see how the personalities get along, but I think it's a solid hire compared to some of the chances he took with his hires from last year. Wandering eyes? That gets old real fast. I am going to go on a limb and trust Bo in that he is not putting these feelers out. Can't do much about others initiating contact. If he was putting feelers out, I'd say don't let the door hit you on the way out, either your committed or your not.
  19. Maybe they don't have prep schools in his area, plus that probably costs some dough. They may not be able to swing it.
  20. I had the same thought. It could also mean that one of the freshmen has agreed to switch to another spot. Just seems kind of late in the process to target a new need.
  21. I also did not care for the Jamal Drill name.
  22. I think Turner will be a future Captain, I really admire his positive attitude and the way he attacks adversity. I hope he has a great season next year. (There's also a nice article on the redshirts & Marsh. I always love hearing about the younger guys and how they are doing)
  23. Not sure if being the ace recruiter lends itself to the coordinator postition? In thinking about it I would think you would want your ace recruiters out on the road and your coordinator back in the office organizing, prioritizing, evaluating film, calling coaches and manning the phones. I'd think your recruiting coordinator would have a strong network already established.
  24. I think I would like to see Els as ST coordinator and Cotton as RC. My 2nd choices would be Els as RC and Ron Brown as ST coordinator. I would like to see J.P stay up in the booth with Raymond. I would move Els down to the field. If JP stays on the field then I would keep Els in the booth. I don't think you should have more than 2 guys in the booth for each side of the ball.
