  1. By all means yes, but a freshman from Sioux City doesn't exactly scream confidence either. Sims could succeed. It just isn't likely at this point. Sounds like Purdy practiced, so he might as well get first crack at it. He did have one good drive.
  2. I mean, Sims does have the raw athleticism to give our offense a chance to be productive. He just can't get past the basics. HH is worth playing if he isn't 100% and Purdy is struggling with injury as well. If Longval is actually #4, if he can take a snap without fumbling and hand it to EJ he might be needed before halftime.
  3. We are also missing a workhorse run blocker/possession receiver. Palmer and Toure before him, kind of got us some bigger hitters than we have had in our recent history. We need someone who either consistently catches passes with minimal separation or creates explosive run plays with good downfield blocking. 2020: Missing WR (Betts was young/Martin was slow to see the field/JD left) 2019: JD Spielman 2018: JD/Morgan 2017: JD/Morgan 2016: JD/Morgan/Westerkamp 2015: Morgan/Westerkamp 2014: Westerkamp 2013: Westerkamp 2012: Enunwa 2011: Enunwa/Kinnie 2010: Kinnie/Paul 2009: Kinnie/Paul/Holt I think something missed about even the Pelini into Riley years is that we still had a lot of talent at receiver even if it wasn't just about pass catching. Frost (Joseph) got one year mercenaries, but we just did not keep the overall talent at receiver coming down the pipe. We basically missed down the entire line of WR recruits under Frost and even Robinson had to be taken away from receiver duties to cover RB which probably was another piece of wanting to get out and go back to Kentucky. It started to slip under Riley, but Frost had 5 years to really crash the car on having a core group in the pipes and sprinkling in transfers as they fit.
  4. Sims gets the start until we have to turn to Woche after the first two turnovers?
  5. Interesting. Here are the FPI rankings of B1G offenses and power 5 opponents outside the conference with score and defensive FPI: Michigan: #2 no power five opponents Ohio State: #10 17 points vs Notre Dame (#14) Penn State: #27 38 points vs West Virginia (#55) Maryland: #35 42 points vs Virginia (#59) Purdue: #59 24 points vs Virginia Tech (#69) Purdue: #59 20 points vs Syracuse (#33) Illinois: #67 23 points vs Kansas (#56) Minnesota: #70 13 points vs North Carolina (#76) Indiana: #74 14 points vs Louisville (#20) Rutgers: #79 35 points vs Virginia Tech (#69) Northwestern: #82 14 points vs Duke (#25) Wisconsin: #86 22 points vs Washington State (#58) Michigan State: #107 7 points vs Washington (#42) Nebraska: #116 14 points vs Colorado (#103) Iowa: #126 13 points vs Iowa State (#32) Overall I think Nebraska, Iowa, and Michigan State have pumped the overall defensive stats of the B1G, but I also don't think it is full on bubble territory. Honestly, Rutgers offense being on the lower side is probably more indicative of the B1G East keeping offenses a little lower than they might otherwise be capable of reaching.
  6. I mean he had the Minnesota win by punt return only to be wiped off the board by the fair catch call.
  7. WTH! Chris Brooks son plays for Wisconsin! I was just thinking how much better this team would be if we had a reliable pass catcher even at the level of Chris Brooks! Dude was an underrated wr with Niles Paul, Menelik Holt, and Mike McNeil.
  8. Saw that. If it happens Kansas is in no matter what and four other teams can make it based on how certain teams go 1-1 in the last two weeks.
  9. I believe that once you eliminate Northwestern and Iowa with tiebreakers in the multiteam tie, Minnesota gets the division with the head-to-head tiebreakers. https://bigten.org/news/2011/8/10/Big_Ten_Conference_Football_Divisional_Tiebreaker.aspx
  10. No matter how unlikely, all but Purdue can still win the division with two weeks left.
  11. Technically speaking, if: Nebraska beats Iowa and Wisconsin Minnesota beats tOSU and Wisconsin Illinois beats Iowa Northwestern beats Illinois Purdue beats Northwestern Then the division would be: Minnesota 5-4 (wins tiebreaker 1 with head to head wins against NU and Iowa) Nebraska 5-4 (wins head to head against Iowa) Iowa 5-4 Northwestern 4-5 Illinois 4-5 Wisconsin 3-6 Purdue 3-6 or 4-5 with Indiana game This set of circumstances is so slim that ESPN gives this scenario a 0.0% chance of happening.
  12. Russia has won the Republican Party, so now it is time to start paying to get into the Democratic convention through the back door?
  13. Unless some crazy Minnesota magic happens, this is Iowa’s. Have fun in the title game.
  14. He only received 400 additional votes. There were also 4,800 less voters who are more likely to show up for a presidential vote.
  15. Good gravy, if I told you at the beginning of the year, with three games left on the year that if we beat Maryland, Iowa, and Wisconsin and Minnesota loses to tOSU we would win the B1G West, would you take it? Most people would in a heart beat. The problem, if we don't beat any of them, we still don't make a bowl game. Just burn the division to the ground already.
  16. 97 Akron - First game and Makovicka breaks a tackle from just about every defender on the field and bear crawl/dives into the end zone. Game was also unbearably hot for a small child in the nose bleeds. 07 K State - We cheered for us to go for 80 with the back up on the last drive. 09 Oklahoma - Probably the most confident in the underdog spot that I knew we would win. Atmosphere was top notch. 09 Texas - It was still a great experience overall after finding out I had tickets Thursday night before the game. 10 Mizzou - Suck it Gabbert. Helu got the rushing record for a single game. 11 tOSU - David just took the ball and game away from Braxton Miller. Bauserman passing chart. 12 Wisconsin (1st game) - Didn’t know this would be our sole win against them with the 4th down stop. 13 Northwestern - Sat south stadium and people left in droves in front of us and we moved down for the final drive. When Westerkemp caught the pass I couldn’t see the back of the end zone and when I looked at the video board, I thought he was down at the one or two yard line. 17 Northern Illinois - Sat in the sky boxes for the first time. Oof.
  17. Seems like Leavitt has the potential to make MSU better. He was highly rated out of high school and used his legs a lot against Minnesota late, but that was also bend but don’t break from Minnesota. His passes look good, but the decision making screams freshmen. I don’t know if he can provide another layer for them to get something going or if Nebraska having a week to review his film will eat him alive. MSU hasn’t had answers all year on offense and I am not sure I would be confident it starts this weekend. Minnesota also gifted the ball to MSU early last week and all that came of it was no first downs and field goals. Nebraska has been chaotic, but the only way to MSU covering is a lot of Nebraska turnovers (3-5). Even if Nebraska hands 2 over, MSU might still only score 10-13 and I don’t think that will be enough for them. There is a lot of room for a Nebraska win with control and only a small to medium window for MSU to get gifts and exchange them for a lot of points.
  18. Sergeant Bluff is to Sioux City what Gretna is to Omaha. If you only venture in for La Ja’s, you will be fine. I grew up near there, so I miss my friends/family, but not the place. I also didn’t fully understand some of what I was witnessing as a child. Yes, I was naive and sheltered. My La Ja’s line is for all people who ask me where I am from and mostly just in jest. I also really just love the tacos there. I miss good Mexican food I had abundantly close to me in high quality. Glad your son likes it!
  19. No. Don’t let the name fool you. It is not the same quality.
  20. You mean you didn’t see a handful when you crossed the street to get back to your car? Or was it already dark and you just couldn’t already see them.
  21. You may get stabbed getting to La Ja’s, but it is still worth it. 10 out 10, would recommend. It is the only thing that makes visiting friends/family in the area worth while. Otherwise, there is no other need to stop in Sioux City.
  22. We can be up on MSU this weekend 21-3 with 10 minutes left in the 4th when a punt return gets muffed, an out route gets picked sixed, or another fumble bounces up to a DE who houses it and we will all collectively go, "Of sh*t, here we go again. We're gonna lose." But until then, let the kool aid flow, my friend!!!
