huskerfaninbuckeyehell
To me the most GLARING problem on D is Tackling or the lack thereof especially on anything to the outside. If we dont get penetration and a sack it looks like a "Chinese Firedrill" back there like a buch pee wee football players running around with no purpose and whiffing on thin air. At some point these boys knew how to tackle (right?). I hope the watch a lot of film this week on how OU was just blasting MU running backs and recievers. Quote Link to comment
HuskerfaninOkieland
I agree. They need to learn to hit, wrap up and run thru the player. Don't wrap your arms around them and then fall down expecting the opponent to fall down with you. Force them down. I also hope Shanle gets some flack from other players for his missed opportunity to put a big time hit on a receiver. Quote Link to comment
roadrat
It's hard to play defense when you have no emotion. The team walked on the field, thought they could line-up and win without putting forth any effort. I don't like to point out any individuals but Shanle was doing a lot of standing around on Sat. but so was everyone else. Quote Link to comment

Everybody griopes about Grixsby but Shanle is far worst. Quote Link to comment
Hunter94
there is NO leadership on this team either, among the players....sux Quote Link to comment
I See Red People
It seemed like Octavien led the blackshirts against UT, and they seemed to play better. You definitly need a leader or leaders on defense. One guy playing at 110% can make a team play better, but not always. I hate the idea of, as soon as we are down, tackling becomes all about stripping the ball. Driving the guy back or just taking him down goes right out the window. I agree turnovers can happen that way, but how about just hit the guy HARD, knocking his helmet off and sending the ball flying. Quote Link to comment
DJR313
Poor tackling in the game. Guys took bad angles on the ball, got in bad position on the field etc. Look for this week to be a bit different. I think OSU runs a similar offense to Missouri, but I think OSU has bigger play makers. Quote Link to comment
mjmartin1970
Especially our safeties, you need to DRIVE THROUGH the runner!!!! Instead, I saw our guys waiting to get hit by the RB. I did they ever, got their asses ran right over. Quote Link to comment
BIGREDIOWAN
Our guys just need to remember keep your eye on the belt buckle because they can't juke you!!!! Then put your helmet on the ball keep your legs driving, wrap your arms, and drive them into the ground. Hit them as if it's the last hit you will ever put on someone!!!! Quote Link to comment

IlliniHusker
Defensive leadership usually comes from the LB group. Last year McKeon became the leader of the defense. He was vocal, assertive and getting on everyone to perform. The defense wasn't great all the time, but it did play with spirit. I expected him to resume the role this year, but he didn't and there is no real "leader" on the defense.* ..... Why? My speculation (from 500 miles away and not knowing the personalities), McKeon was thrust into role last year when injuries brought down so many LB's on defense. This year..... Bradley (Sr) is back, Brandenburgh is playing more and Rudd has become the darling of the fans....... so McKeon (Jr) has been delegated to a lesser role. Octo has more talent than anyone, but I wonder if he is really a "leader"? Since I'm just a fan who doesn't really know the answer, I'll propose an answer ..... the coaches should make it clear that McKeon is the defensive leader on the field and tell him to kick some ass (verbally of course!). * If I'm wrong on this, then who is the leader? BIGREDFAN_in_OMAHA
Carriker is the captain and should take more of that on his shoulders. Quote Link to comment
Hunter94
carriker is having an off year, nowhere near living up to the pre season hype......is it the way cos is deploying him? can anyone tell what is up with his play? i really wonder what is going down inside this team?? hunter Quote Link to comment
BIGREDIOWAN
Carriker should be stepping up on defense and be the leader IMO........that's what being names a captain is for?! If your named a Captain it's because you have emotion and you drive the other guys to succeed....IMO?? Quote Link to comment
huskernumerouno
You cant tell someone to be a leader and them be able to lead. Someone needs to wake up one morning and just get into anyone and everyones ass that is not practicing or playing at 110%. lead follow or get out of the way. SOMEONE DO SOMETHING Quote Link to comment
