HuskerMav11
Let's see...Memorial stadium becomes the third biggest town in Nebraska every saturday. Getting from Omaha to Lincoln every saturday is nothing but a HUGE traffic jam. Football, College or highschool, brings town's together and is watch by the majority of the state. Tom Osborne is a name that everyone knows, (even haters like you), and iso ne of the most respected persons in this state. If you walked up to Tom Osborne and said what you just said to him, he should slap you, but wouldn't due to the fact that he's such a respectable person. In fact, he would prolly coaches around the state would argue that life's greatest lesson's can be learned through football. Face it, Nebraska is about football. Btw, we don't decide what is on the news, the manager's of the station decide what they show. You know why they showed Osborne's press conference during today's 5:00 news? Because that is what the local's wanted to watch. I myself don't "watch" the news. I hear about the news, but don't take time out of my day to sit down and watch the news. I heard that a Tom Osborne was going to be speaking today at 5 on KETV, so I took time out of my day to hear this great man speak. Your arguments are that these kids arn't professional athletes? No, these kids are College students trying to start their careers, and because they are so talented, they are able to get their education paid for, something 10x more important then a bunch of rich ass pro athletes getting paid millions to play the game. Soldier's are dieing, and other bad stuff is going on in the world. No one is saying "Big deal"...we all just don't want to hear about world issues all the time and would rather hear about what's going on on a local level. A man lost his job,(and also making a couple million by getting fired), is not something to cheer about...your right. But he wasn't doing his job, and deserved to be fired. Also, he turned an amazing program into a joke, which is something many of us can't handle. Knowing that he can no longer ruin our program(if he already didn't total it), is something to be excited about. Knowing that the husker football legend is back, and he's going to do his best to fix our situation is something to be excited about. I don't know what else to say to you, but I have given you plenty of reason's why. (btw, I like the way that most of your argument was based on the fact that the 5:00 news was "wasted" on husker football, but don't take into fact that their are probably about 5 channel's out of 70 on basic cable that revolve all around sports completely(ESPN, Fox sports...ect.)...Also, if you want to read about how much the world sucks, get on google and look it up) Quote Link to comment
NUpolo8
I like people who are stuck in the year 2000. By the way have you seen the trailers for that movie Snatch? It looks off the chain!!!! Quote Link to comment

HUSKER 37
I was born and bred here. I attended UNL. I think I do understand values. Values that have purpose. I don't understand what values people get from criticizing a team of young men and their mentors. I don't understand the values of cheering that a man lost his job. What are the values in that? Is it integrity and tradition? I think not! Values/Scmalues.. It's a release..A form of escape. If we ignore the real problems of the world, everybody knows they'll just go away. And if it wasn't for my childhood of memorizing the 7-8 pages devoted to the Huskers in Sunday's OWH, Id forget Omaha was even part of Nebraska. Imagine my culture shock after I moved to PHX and not being able to read more than a paragraph about NU or even ASU every week. My kids..No mater how much we praise them for their grades, they still prefer recess to their fav. subject (Math). Recess usually evolves to sports as they get older. I don't like rooting for people to loose their jobs, no mater how Evil they appear to be, and If I was in charge, I'd tone down some of the public pressure, but ... If it wasn't for this Bulleten Board, Id have to turn to internet porn for my escape. Don't people remember there is military occupation in Iraq or that genocide is being committed in Darfur? Homeowners are losing there houses everyday in the US because of the housing burst. Hello???? U.S. military soldiers are dying and they aren't even shown on the news enough. Its called a release. An outlet. It doesn't make Iraq, Bush, work , taxes, bills, a-hole bosses, raging traffic, lazy co workers, annoying in laws, over analytical people(cough), go away. Just a break so we can not be so uptight that we go on a three state killing spree. Two things I know for sure. Life is short. If you don't stop every now and then and not stress all the crap in the world it will consume you, eat you, and spit you out. Lighten up. We are Huskers by choice. Weather we went to school there or just love the whole ambiance of being a Husker. Tradition , honor, and pride. Those are not bad qualities to promote in a world that is a cesspool of stupidity. You should be proud to be a part of what is right in the world instead of knocking the principals that make our fan base legendary. Now run along and save a whale or something. Agreed with almost all of what you posted. Now if I can just figure out why I'm more upset that an off duty Omaha Cop shot a Siberian Husky than another Phoenix Cop got shot by an Illegal Alien..Maybe Because I've known Several Huskies and Only met two Cops while I was being arrested for posession of eggs on Halloween in the mid '70s. SDalum1981
Megan, As a motorcycle enthusiast who rides a shaft-driven, liquid-cooled motorcycle from Honda, I will borrow a popular saying from the Harley Davidson enthusiasts to comment about the passion, obsession, dedication, love, and interest that people have in Husker football. "If I have to explain, you would not understand." Quote Link to comment
Nicole
She isnt a fan, she doesnt understand, she never has, she never will. Its a shame really......I almost feel bad. Quote Link to comment
808Husker in KCMO
Megan, you are completely wrong. The players are too getting paid!! I think most of us are aware of the worlds tragedies. We do this for fun, entertainment, and relief from the real world. Thanks for your self righteous rant. I'm amazed that in all of your dutiful activism you have time to read this board and post. Did you wi-fi us simpletons from a Starbucks? Many of us don't live in NE anymore, and for me, much of it has to do woth the conservative mindset and voting habits but that doesn't mean I have any respect for what you just did. Condescending, venomous, just plain poor. Bill Callahan was elected coach even though Bo Pellini won the popular vote. BTW- since you seem so wrapped up in politics and fancy book learnin', we don't elect presidents by popular vote, never have. Its called the electoral college. Maybe you can read about it and explain it to us. Don't even get me started on the electoral college! What a scham! Yep. Complete sham. The same sham we've been using for 200+. For the record, If you live in Nebraska, your EC votes get split so you shouldn't bitch about the EC. You should bitch that more states don't follow Nebraska's lead on this to more accurately reflect the popular vote. PS. Attacks on a persons political views makes you look stupid when we are talking about athletics. It's like when you lose an argument with someone and resort to name-calling. Quote Link to comment
Roxy
Hmm...thought of this song when I read your post Megan and you don't even want to know what I thought of your post..I would be banned for sure lol so will be nice and just post this song for you lol 6R85RjD5hnw Quote Link to comment
BIGREDIOWAN
Megan, Obviously you will never understand so it would make no sense for me or anyone on this board to try and explain it to you. Just get over it and move on with your life then because this is what Nebraska is all about. Quote Link to comment
Roxy
Thanks for the lovely pm Megan NOT NOT NOTl ...for your information..I didn't go to Creighton period...you obviously got me confused with a member who maybe went there...I don't know and I don't care...go play with your barbie dolls lol Quote Link to comment
junior4949
Megan, no one is going to yell at you because you don't get it and never will get it. That is o.k. This is the Nebraska identity that reflects on the values of the state. I really am sorry that you are not N. I was born and bred here. I attended UNL. I think I do understand values. Values that have purpose. I don't understand what values people get from criticizing a team of young men and their mentors. I don't understand the values of cheering that a man lost his job. What are the values in that? Is it integrity and tradition? I think not! Define values that have purpose. If you ask 100 people what values have purpose to them, you're probably going to get around 100 different answers. Which one of the 100 is right? All of them because the question is subjective. It's what values have purpose to them! How many people do you suppose cheered when Kenneth Lay lost his job? I'm guessing millions. How many cheered when Skilling (sp) was senetenced to prison? Again, probably millions. People get fired when they perform unsatisfactory. I hope you're not insinuating that we all applaud poor performance. The reason for the housing bubble and people losing their houses has more to do with poor planning than anything else. Most were putting loans on variable rates thinking rates could never go higher. When the rates went higher and the monthly payments went up, they could no longer make those payments. If you want to know what Nebraska is all about, just look at the great things we accomplish. These statistics are a bit dated, but Nebraska has the lowest credit card defaults at 6% than any other state in the country. The people of Nebraska are known for they're outstanding work ethic. We are the 3rd largest corn producing state in the nation. We rank #1 or #2 in beef production annually. We are a proud state with very little else to cheer for other than our beloved Huskers. If you truelly are born and raised here in Nebraska, then you completely missed the forest for the trees. Quote Link to comment
HUSKER 37
I like this from a 9rsGirl post.. Being in politics is like being a football coach. You have to be smart enough to understand the game and dumb enough to think it's important. -Eugene J. McCarthy Quote Link to comment
