Time To Apologize

Why should anyone other than the person that made the threat appologize?

It will mean nothing coming from people who were not involved.

If HuskerT hit you with a club and I come along and say I am sorry, would it mean much?

I don't like the fact that he has been threatened or that his family is taking abuse. That isn't right...and the parents of the kids that are giving his kids a bad time should step up to the plate and be parents.

Yeah, he will have money when he leaves....so if you don't want to feel sorry for him don't. What I hope is that he uses this as a learning experience and comes away gaining something from it that he can use in the future. Yeah, he screwed up this defense royally...and I am mad as hell about that. But under no circumstances am I going to take to personally attacking the man or his family to get back. I can let my displeasure be known...but I am not going to cross the line.

Nebraskans should act the part of the good fans that we are. Support the team, voice your displeasure at the bad things, but remember to stay on the side of right, and keep it clean. We don't need to take anyone and publicly flog or hang them to make the changes that we need to make. Let the man go in peace, and we will do likewise.

I think Cosgrove owes the Husker fans an apology more than we owe him one. He is a highly paid specialist that has failed miserably in his job at a high profile program. The list of records, many over a half century old, that have been shattered while he was at the helm of the defense is almost endless and mind numbing in their scope.

The threats and abuse his family has taken is inexcusable and should be pursued by law enforcement but I didn't threaten him or harass his family an don't feel it is my duty to apologize for idiotic behavior of other people.

In his defense at least he has shown some humility during this whole debacle unlike the arrogant, pompous ass he has for his boss.

I find it a tad ironic (and hypocritical) when another teams fan registers on Huskerboard and he's ragged on and ridiculed by one or two lunatic fringe NU fans, the rest of the NU fans quickly chime in with "ignore him. he's the exception to the rule. you're welcome to post here cuz the rest of us fans are cool. we're not all like. please don't make us guilty by association" or if at a home game, if a fan for the opposing team is being ridiculed or ragged on, surrounding NU fans are quick to jump in and defend the fan from the opposing team even apologizing to him/her, and then verbally (and maybe physically) lash out at the NU fan for being an idiot.

But when a "lunatic fringe" fan makes a threat to a NU coach (that everyone agrees needs to be gone), everyone seems to want to distance themself from that fan (obviously and rightfully so) but you're not willing to say to the coach "ignore him, he's the exception to the rule cuz the rest of us fans are cool." I wonder what some of the responses would be had the coach been say Watson or Wyatt. I have to believe Cosgrove's involvement is the reason for some of the responses. <_<<_<

Personally (and I know this goes for 98% of Husker fans) are outraged at what the Cosgrove's, as well as the entire coaching staff and their families have had to put up with over the last few weeks. It is completely absurd and outrageous for any individual to be ridiculed, beaten down verbally and now have their life threatened over a GAME -- a freakin' GAME! I am truly ashamed, to be honest.

Really, I think we all need to take the time to apologize on behalf of the entire fan base to Cosgrove and his entire family. No matter what we think of him as a coach should not take away from him as a person, nor should it condone the treatment he and his family has received.

I'm going to post the email to Cosgrove (from his bio on Huskers.com) and hopefully we can all send him an apology, along with sending him and his family well wishes in this hard time.

jduff@huskers.com

I know his assistant will likely get overwhelmed with emails, but honestly, he deserves all of our apologies right now, no matter if it was only one person acting like a complete jacka**.

I really can't see death as a solution to the Husker defensive woes this season. Maybe just a good hard spanking for Cosgrove by some fans and no TV for a week. That should be punishment enough, in my view... :nutz

Exactly! Asking all fans to apologize for one or two boneheads is way too extreme. If I apologize for anything it'll be for not having the power to fire Coz myself!

It'd be rather pathetic if this death threat was credible and from an actual Nebraska "fan." Unfortunately, in the age we live in today, I doubt this is the first time that a person has wanted to murder (and I still can't believe I'm not using that figuratively) a coach at Nebraska...the information just "travels" much, much faster.

That being said...if this story is even somewhat true...well, it simply makes me sick.

As much of a Nebraska fan I am, and how much I live vicariously through my team...the person(s) that did this is a/are slack-jawed yokel(s).

Even if it was Osborne who was targeted I wouldn't feel compelled to contact him and inform him that not all Nebraska fans are death-threat terrorists like that one. I guess I just assume that coaches at major schools would already know this. If we're using that logic, then some of us have a lot of Iraqis to email telling them that not all Americans agreed with the invasion of their country.

I find it funny that those who are saying that Nebraska fans should contact Coz and either apologize or tell him that we're not all terrorists are acting as if not contacting Coz is tantamount to endorsing the terrorist.

No way I'm accepting partial responsibilty for some drunk a$$'s voicemail. Look, it is what it is and I'm sure the Cosgrove family understands that. I don't know if a death threat or a bomb threat is a felony or what; I hope they track down the idiot and fine him good. However, as unfortunate as it is, I don't think the Husker Nation needs to light candles or pile in a caravan of buses and drive over to apologize. Good luck to KC and family.

Yeah, It would mean, not all of us think you should have been hit with a club. If you stand there and just look on it would say, I have no problem with that.
