Nebraska on front page of ESPN

I'd like to believe that the fact that this was a gay website had nothing to do with the decision to boot him from the team, but I don't.

Athletes are some of the most homophobic homosexuals in the world. All of that admiring the body, tackling and rolling around in tight clothes, ass slappings after a good play. Yet deeply afraid a gay teamate might be showering with them. When Manning says the photo shoot was a problem for team chemistry- you're damn right.

Nebraska is an ultra-conservative state. Good reason to move somewhere else and cheer from afar.

That being said I don't believe this is the only reason they were booted- it sounds like there were other issues, domestic abuse warning signs, excessive drinking, etc. It all adds up.

The point about players getting away with DUI's etc is a very valid point.

The idea that our dear NU or holy Osborne don't violate NCAA rules isn't one I beleive. They all do. It is just a matter of degree and skill at hiding it.

Look at it this way: would these two have been kicked off had they gotten DUI like Niles Paul did? No one knows for sure, but let's be honest... not likely. But do a harmless porn shoot and suddenly they're horrible kids. Social stigmas are a bitch, I guess.

A message to the children: Get behind the wheel while intoxicated, kick the sh#t outta someone at a bar, drag your girlfriend down a few flights of stairs by her hair, rob a gas station... those are all naughty things to do, but everybody deserves forgiveness and a second chance. On the other hand, partake in the perfectly legal business of posing nude so that other people can pleasure themselves from the privacy of their own living rooms... now THAT is unacceptable.

Congratulations on your ability to be dismissive of the other things these two did. And congratulations on your ability to oversimplify the situation to such a silly degree that the above post is pretty much laughable.

Seriously. Congratulations.

Woah, somebody's pissed. But seriously, thank you. My point stands, and anyone willing to look objectively will likely agree. These guys got kicked off the team for being in porn. All the other previous things they did don't amount to squat. Do you really think another underage drinking ticket would have been the straw that broke the camel's back? Of course not. It was the porn, and the gay connotations that went along with it.

Seriously.

1. So they posed for a gay website. BFD.

2. They may or may not be gay. BFD.

3. They made some money off of the situation. Good for them.

4. They are grown men who made the decision to model for that site. So what.

In watching this story, and reading the subsequent posts, I am saddened beyond belief...

What's even worse is the disgusting and all too typical straight male hypocrisy contained herein.

If two of Nebraska's volleyball players posed on a gay site which catered to lesbians probably not one of you would have a problem with that. In fact you guys would probably find it to be incredibly hot and an immense turn on.

And huzkerbob, you are so lucky I can't tell you via this site what I really think of you.

It may turn us on, but most of us would have a problem with two of our student athletes that would whore themselves out, by masterbating on film for money. It does not shed a good light on the University at all.

Husker Jen, I know you are a lesbian, and I'm sorry if my post's came across as homophobic.

I disagree that #1 is a not a big deal. The sexual orientation of the target audience of that website is irrelevant to the decision, period. The vast majority of employers would terminate an employee if they posed for pornography, and if you think the relationship between a student athlete and their institution isn't similar to an employer/employee, you're very much mistaken. I work in labor law, so I'm not just tossing this out there uninformed.

#2 is completely irrelevant to this situation. Completely agree with your stance here.

#3 may very well be an NCAA violation, so it's NOT good for them or the university.

#4 goes along with my answer to #1 - they are not autonomous individuals making this decision. Their behavior reflects on the university. The university gets to decide which behaviors are deal-breakers and which aren't. The university decided, apparently in conjunction with other "issues" related to these students, that this was a deal-breaker. That's their right.

Nothing about this situation would be different if the athletes were women posing for a heterosexual site.

This is not a gay rights issue.
