Is Doc the right guy??

Recommended Posts

Still don't understand Sadler. Holley is a high quality and very athletic player yet he almost never plays. Jones is are best 3 point shooter yet never plays anymore. We caould really use both of them right now in the season. Doc has to learn how to use players.

Its flat out getting annoying.

Hopefully we can get McCray back healthy next year and develop all the freshmen. We show potential, but no consistency. dedhoarse

Right there, 100% correct, we know Doc is a decent coach from what he has done so far here, but this year is kinda of a reset with all the freshman. We're not a Kansas-like basketball programs that "reloads, not rebuilds" so this group will take some time. Have to admit that saturday night showed signs of brilliance.

Oh yeah. :koolaid2:

Doc gets guys for a year or two and they transfer. It doesnt matter if your bringing in a NBA caliber recruiting class if they transfer after a season bc they dont like the coach. 5 players transferring? With possibly more to come? That is unheard of for a basketball team. Thats more than the whole football team, and they have 140 players. He is not the right guy.

Yea why not? Let's grab all the pitchforks and torches for grapevine information!!! Lyons is leading the coup!

Okay big guy, Grapevine info or not. Were last in the Big 12, take it what its worth.

Basketball is the only sport that this excuse works for.. People were up in arms early in the season because the volleyball team wasn't top 3 quality at the beginning of the year. and it was full of kids who had never played with each other... and they were still a top 10 team..... anderson got the cold shoulder from a ton of people last year with a baseball team that had a ton of newcomers, especially on the mound. why does this excuse work for basketball but not for anyone else?

Two words sums up half the fan base for all of our sports, unrealistic expectations.

This may be true. I dont expect anything more than NIT from basketball teams any year. But we are not a program that goes last in the Big XII. Freshman or not. They should still be able to make layups. I know this is a far off comparison, but Kentucky starts what, 4 freshman? I know there is a big talent barrier, but obivously something is being done right. Im not giving up on Doc, whatsoever, but I think he gets this recruiting class, and if he cant finish in the top half of the Big XII within the next two years he needs to go.

I'm content with NIT every year, maybe an NCAA birth 1-2 times every 5 years or so. We don't have a local recruiting base to pull from, and we have never been an established power. We don't reload, we rebuild every 3 years.

Hopefully Doc can change this.

Why is it unrealistic to expect our basketball team to be competitive?

Unrealistic for them to be competitive this year with so many inexperienced starters.

Yeah but we are never competitive. We have never been to a big 12 championship game and at the end of the year we will have the least amount of NCAA tourny trips out of any big 12 team. I would be content if we made the NCAA tournament once in a while and if over 1/3 of the team didn't think about transfering. It just looks bad.

This year the youth and inexperience to me is a logical excuse, tho there is no excuse for missed layups and free throws. Look, the team was competitive against Kansas, blew away an oklahoma team with 3 MickyD all-americans (hell, theyre goin thru the same thing we are but theyre supposed to have more talent) then sh#t its pants against K-State. For all we know theyll play like gangbusters in the next one. A seriuos case of inconsistency-inexperience's ugly nephew.

Really? Really? You obviously do not watch Nebraska basketball. The one thing that has kept people (not just fans, but also analysts) optimistic about Doc is that he gets no-talent bums to be COMPETITIVE in almost every game. They are never competitive is an absolutely ridiculous statement. No, they haven't won a whole heck of a lot, but watch a game once. Other than CU and K-State this year, they have been competitive in every game. Watching the away games on t.v., you always hear the announcers (even when it's ESPN) talk about how great it is to see a coach get such low rated players to play so hard and be so COMPETITIVE against top tier talent.

Your not getting the point. We are never competitive in the season as a whole. We never contend for a Big 12 championship. Yeah we compete with Schools like Kansas and texas, but for one half. <_< The main reason too is because they are looking ahead to their next game. Just look what Colorado did to Kansas last night. Same thing happened to us but only for one half instead of the whole game. Also How come during those "competitive" games we are never the team that comes out on top? We can play tough at home, but we shouldn't just be playing tough we should be winning. Just look at Missouri, their talent level isn't much greater than ours but they had the second longest home winning streak in D1 before yesterday.

Maybe if Doc plays his players to their advantage and let them play the way they want to we would win a couple more games a year and actually finish a game instead of letting it slip and crack under the pressure.
