jamal = too small and i don't think will play QB. i know you have your Chase Daniels and Todd Reesings of the world but they dont come around often. i do think T-Mart has a great chance at being the starter someday because he just has the confident (maybe even cocky) swagger that a starting QB needs. IMO everyone looks past Brion Carnes. great runner and underrated passer.

Martinez (no I will not call him T-mart, T-money, or anything of the sort) is 6'1" and so is Jamal Turner. Turner is listed at 175, but he's just a junior in HS. He may even have some natural growing left to do. Besides, if they want him at 195ish like Martinez, you know Dobson could have him there in 18 months. Also Jamal Turner has a MUCH better arm than Martinez, but he's not as fast/elusive.

that is a good point. but a few things i'll add. i was standing right next to Turner yesterday and hes not 6'1". i see Martinez on campus alot and he's definitely taller than Turner. you are right he could still grow an inch or two. i disagree when you say Turner isn't as fast/elusive as Martinez. i think he's more fast/elusive (his latest video is the best pure running video i've seen) but i'm not sure about the arm yet. not many throwing plays in that video nor are his passing statistics very impressive. i hope he is a QB someday here, but i hope the coaches switch him to WR quickly if they realize he's not much of a passer

From the film I've seen on Turner, he has some of the sickest juke moves I've ever seen for a QB. He reminds me of a right-handed Pat White. He can cut at the drop of a dime and accelerate in an instant. As far as how he stacks up to Martinez in that dept. we'll find out next spring, because Turner will be on campus in January 2011. Like I said in another thread, between Martinez, Carnes and Turner next spring, they're bound to give Sipple and other Husker media hounds a woody with their athleticism. It'll be another slobber fest come next spring.

As of right now, the battle for next year's quarterback spot is between Lee, Green, and Martinez. Right now I'd have to give the realistic slight edge to Lee and Green because they both saw PT last year (Lee with the most, of course) and they both have the most experience with the playbook and the most experience using that playbook in real game situations.

I don't know much about Jamal Turner's capabilities, but he appears to be an ESPN 150 guy and a four star, so he must be showcasing some good things. He also has been receiving interest from Oklahoma. Carnes, I don't much about the kid so we'll have to wait and see. But, a guy that we had to fight WKU for kind of makes me wonder just what he brings to the table. Not to say that who a player gets recruited by designates how good they are, but he was a rather late addition that seemed to be one of those "he's available so lets just grab him" guys.

I think looking past this upcoming season, your realistic quarterback fight will be between Green and Martinez. Carnes will have an edge over Turner because he'll be here for fall camp, but Turner seems to have a lot of potential under his belt.

Just going off of past experiences and example, I don't think anybody other than Martinez or Green has a realistic shot at the 2011 starting job. I foresee a Jamal Turner redshirt unless injuries happen, because Green and Martinez will figure to be two very capable guys.

I know I left out Spano, but I just don't see the kid getting significant. I think injuries have sidelined his progression and we still don't know what he's fully capable of because he has yet to be 100% healthy.

I really dont care much for Carnes, either. The whole recruiting thing kinda made wonder why kept going after this kid after visited and then committed WKU, then decided on NU all within about a week or 2.

Anybody that thinks Martinez or Green isnt gonna start in 2011 is dreaming. FWIW I really wanna see Spano can do when healthy hopefully he can see some action this fall in mop up duty. But I think unfortunately we have another Jordan Adams like injury plaque career and get lost in the shuffle.

So your issue with Carnes is that he's a kid who had a hard time making up his mind on one of the biggest decisions of his life? Anyway, Lee will be #1 and for the rest in 2011, it's way too early to tell because both Martinez and Green are still pretty much raw talent with potential, like most other young players.

That's kinda disappointing that Turner isn't actually 6'1". But yeah I just think Turner is more of a QB than Martinez in the broad sense of the word. (Which is NOT open to interpretation :sarcasm ). But that's a long way down the road.

WHY DID ZAC HAVE TO GET HURT!!! ARGHH!!!! :steam

please don't call him T-Magic until he actually does something. I wasn't all that impressed with him with the exception of his running ability.

I disagree with you. However pre-mature it may be, it's a nickname that the players came up with, not the fan base. It's no different than any other nickname imho.

Gmoose touched on this and I saw your response to him, but I still disagree. Despite his listing at 6'1" (which, we all know that height is one of the most screwed up numbers in the evaluation process), he's only a Junior (will be a Senior next year) and has plenty of room to grow and add muscle to his frame. Even if he doesn't gain weight before college, Dobson is, in my honest opinion, one of the best strength and conditioning coaches I've seen. He can build healthy weight with anybody. But, only time will tell.

when i said too small i didn't mean muscle-wise. if Dobson can somehow get Jamal to grow a few more inches in height, then yes i would say he is the best strength and conditioning coach in the history of football.

please don't forget Green already. not personally impressed with him yet but with his maturity (based on how he talks to the media) there's no doubt that he still has star potential if he puts in the work

I'm not counting him out at all. I purposely didn't include him along with Spano and Kellogg to make a point that between Martinez, Carnes and Turner, there are a lot of similarities, specifically in the way that they run the ball.

Jamal is at least 6'. A buddy if mine and i talked to him on Sat. He plans on being at Nebraska in Jan. and is setting himself high passing goals for his senior year. I expect him to redshirt next year, but if he picks up up the offense and can pass better than the others I don't see why he can't start. No matter what he will deinitly add competition.

T-Magic? Really? :frenchy:flush:leghump::facepalm: Do we really need to start giving kids nicknames after their spring game performances? :dunno

The kid has a long ways to go before people start passing out catchy nicknames. His running was good but his passing was very average. If you ask me he showed nothing that proves he is the future of this program (that may have been by design though).
