 Just tempering some enthusiasm!

I think it's important to not get too caught up in hype and things like that, and instead realize there's a lot of uncertainty about how the team will do the next few years, in spite of some promise. The hype destroyed people's views of Cody Green and Marlon Lucky, and I'm just worried it could also destroy people's perception of Bo Pelini. Right now people think this staff is walking on water, and that we are on the up and up and headed for MNC contention. Same thing we all thought before '07. I think next year we will be fortunate to maintain the success we have had this year and last, just because it's going to take a lot of work to do so. Not to mention, our monster '11 schedule.

Also we should keep in mind, Enunwa and SJB were Curenski Gilleylen and Chris Brooks not too long ago. It didn't take long for people to start jumping on Cure for having bad hands when it's not even the case, but he definitely hasn't produced/had much chances lately. And for every stud we identify early (like Helu), there are a bunch whose star falls for one reason or another (Anthony Blue, Jaivorio Burkes, even Zac Lee, who was supposed to be seriously pushing for the job in 2008), and others that just take a few years to get going (Hagg, Prince).

Don't paint us all with that brush. I thought it was fairly obvious where we were headed during and after the 04' Texas Tech game. There were a lot of posters back then that felt the same way. Unfortunately, they don't post here anymore and haven't for a few years.

There is a mountain of evidence to support Bo is clearly not another Callahan. Also, a returning qb who is greased lightning is a huge undeniable asset. An Oline that is clearly the best we've had under Bo that return almost everybody with some studs coming off redshirts and two solid TEs (Reed/Cotton) looks very good as well. Rex/Green for rbs.....what's not to like about that?

Offensively, I think the hype is fully justified.

On the other side of the ball you nailed it....Bo does indeed walk on water.

Not trying to paint anyone with a brush here. I thought it was fairly obvious we were going to start contending for championships back in '07, so I'm one of those guys that got too excited. Just saying that even with good names on the roster and promise, a variety of things could happen. If we follow this season up with 4-5 seasons of 8-10 wins, I think people right now would consider that a failure and start calling for Bo's head, which I think is unreasonable...

Of course, I don't suspect we will be headed for a 5-7 collapse either. But that 2011 team could very well win 7 games (or 11). Patience for the staff and the players, in either case.

Haven't seen Corey play, but he does look like he has all the tools to be a great Safety. It really all depends on how he's taken to the playbook. But right now the only thing holding Smith back from starting is his lack of tackling starting with the Texas game. Before that he looked like an absolute stud, with Hagg leaving we're probably looking at Cassidy taking over his spot (if we don't just move David over and start a combination of Compton, Martin, Whaley, and Fisher at LBs). In fact that's probably a better formation to use than using a DB in that position.

I think it all depends on how Dennard is graded out and where people have him projected to go in the draft. I think he needs to get stronger and better in his run defense. He needs to learn how to better get off a WR's block, have seen that he sometimes gets swallowed up by the blocks. Once he gets up to the NFL it gets that much harder.

As a cover corner, he's definitely a top 5 CB, but I think he's in the same position that Suh was. He's probably good enough to go after this year, but he'd probably benefit from another year in college.

Dennard and Suh might be in the same boat football wise, but your talking about 2 totally different people and upbringings here.

It is nice, but it's also just naming names. At one point, it was "Geez - Octavien, Ruud, McKeon, Brandenburgh, Dillard" and "Turner, Allen, Steinkuhler, Suh, we're gonna be sick". That was '07.

Dont remember me thinking we were going to contend for a national championship or even think these guys were going to be something great in 07. I will say if we dont go for a national championship in the next 3 years with this talent-- it will be a FAIL. I have honestly no doubt in my mind that we will. I know thats going out on a limb, but its how I feel, and I know talent when I see it.

We gotta be careful about saying how loaded we are gonna be next year. Despite the talent we have coming back next year, think of all the talent we are LOSING. On offense we lose Paul despite his case of "stonehands" he is one of our home run threats, along with Helu who is our best playmaker out their besides Martinez. Quincy E and Jean Bapiste have great upside but Quincy is only one that has seen the field, which was pretty rarely so far. IMO on offense next year I think Martinez and Reed are gonna be our biggest playmakers.

On defense, Prince, Hagg, Gomes, Allen, are all gone after this year. Those guys absolute ballers out their. I dont think we have the depth or experience yet to just come in and replace those guys without missing a stride. Guys like Cooper havent even seen the field and we as fans expect him to just come in and light it up next year???

Pelini is awesome at DEVELOPING talent, we need to patience. Remember we go to the BIGTEN next year, we will have toughest schedule in america, reasonably we cant expect more than 9 or 10 win season.

Oh did I mention, we lose our kicker/punter and kickoff specialist.

You mean the same Big 10 who usually gets killed in bowl games (last year was an exception). Who outside of itself gets crushed by faster teams. The same Big 10 who we have a 8-1 record against over the last 15yrs (the only top tier teams we didn't play are Ohio St and Wisconsin.) I am sorry, but I just don't get this fear people have of the Big 10. They usually are a weaker conference compared to the Big 12 or SEC. So many posters on here have stated through the years how OVERRATED the Big 10 is, yet now all of the sudden they are afraid of them :dunno . Yes they a big (and slow), yes they are physical, but so are the Huskers, Bo has gotten us back to physical football. Plus, speed kills and we have tons of that. We may not win the MNC next year, but I think the Big 10 is in for a surprise.

Wasn't Potter above Allen then?

Hate to drop a bomb here but I don't see Dennard sticking around Lincoln for another year.

Yeah. I think his decision along with Crick's will have a major impact on next year. I'd like to see them both stay but I'm not confident that either of them stay.

I don't understand why there are so many thinking Crick will opt for the NFL. He's clearly not ready and it shouldn't even be a concern. Dennard is a concern, but I think he stays.
