anti-Bo

Here's what I don't get: Bo admitted in his presser that if he were a ref getting screamed at by a coach, he wouldn't give that coach any calls....

Take a minute to think about that.

My mom always told me to treat others how I want to be treated. Obviously much easier said than done. :hmmph

It also may be a by-product of aggressive play. I would like to see a stat of the number of personal fouls called on this team compared to the nation, and how that number has gone up through the years. Bo coaches aggression through the echo of the whistle and sometimes we get bit by that. I know Ricky Henry has had no fewer than 5 personal fouls in his career for picking people off at the end of a play. Also, the way the secondary is coached yields more pass interference calls. I think Bo would take getting a 15 yarder against him every once in a while on a PI instead of allowing an extra 75-80 yards in passing.

The difference with all this 'Bos teams play on an edge..." crap is, is that if our offense actually scored by themsleves about 17 ppg, in many of the cases we'd be talking about one of the most dominant era's in blackshirt history.

I'll give Bo and his defense 100 yds a game in penalties if they are giving up only 12 ppg. Now if Watsons edge was bigger then a fallen tree trunk and a little more razor sharp, we would absolutely dominate the Whole Country.

Let's not forget we went from 112 to 50s to top 10 two yrs in a row in only 3(!) seasons. I like Bo and his 'edge'... Watson? More like a gradual free fall from a very very tall slooope

I think ultimately this comes down to two or more officials in the crew that called TAMU, ISU and Texas displaying (whether consciously or not) some very significant bias against Nebraska. There are probably others, but it's not as obvious. The stats point to this. I don't think it has to do with Bo. Not that his behavior is helping, but the issue with Nebraska leaving the Big 12 (which almost led to the end of the conference) is much bigger than Bo's anger. Officials' futures were at stake during this whole off-season fiasco, and don't think for a second that officials are above this type of bias.

If you look at judgment calls and penalties with significant gray areas (mainly holding), these are going against Nebraska and in favor of their opponents too consistently this season to be by mere chance. Refs are supposed to be pillars of objectivity, but even the best can fall well short of this.

baloney. The good refs would have been picked up by other conferences that needed better refs. The Pac-10 refs are really bad. They even make mistakes after video review and still get the call wrong. We never broke up the Big 12, Texas and the 6 other South teams did that when they were listening to the Pac-10.

For what it is worth I received this in an email today, Now it is time to move on for me.

Faith in the honesty of the system is an important thing and is certainly one of the key elements in the current commotion about the American football officiating in the Nebraska Cornhuskers (Huskers) at Texas A&M (Aggies) game 2010.

Richard Croome at AggieSports.com writes about the Nebraska at Texas A&M game 2010 as follows -- these are excerpts from a longer posting....:

[1st quarter] Key stat: Nebraska had more penalty yards than A&M had offensive yards -- 50 to 17....

[2nd quarter] Key stat: A&M linebacker Michael Hodges had more tackles at halftime (eight) than A&M had first downs (five)....

[3rd quarter] Key stat: A&M's drive to take the lead for the first time was helped along by two pass interference penalties against Nebraska, the second on a third-and-8....

[4th quarter] "Wrong way again: For the second time in the game, head referee Greg Burks reported a personal foul correctly but pointed in the wrong direction. This time the call went against Nebraska's Eric Martin but the arm pointed against A&M. Burks got the next call right, hitting Pelini for unsportsmanlike conduct when the Nebraska coach argued the call."

That excerpted summary shows that the essentials of the game were also clearly understood by the Husker opponents, not just by Nebraska fans. Penalties and officials dominated the key statistics of the game and not the PLAY of the players. And there was bizarre behavior by officials as well. That is not the way college football is supposed to be.

Nebraska is undefeated in 2010, except for the games refereed by the same set of officials, who were in charge of Husker games against Texas and Texas A&M. A third game with those same referees resulted in an overtime win over Iowa State, which could easily have been a loss.

Otherwise, the Huskers this season are doing fine. Is that merely chance and attributable only to poor play by Nebraska in those games?

These are the names of officials according to a posting at the Grand Island Independent Forums.

"NU versus ISU -

Officials: Referee: Greg Burks; Umpire: Scott Campbell; Linesman: George Gusman; Line judge: Kevin Mar; Back judge: Shawn Hochuli; Field judge: Nick Lave; Side judge: Gene Semko

NU versus Texas -

Officials: Referee: Greg Burks; Umpire: Scott Campbell; Linesman: George Gusman; Line judge: Kevin Mar; Back judge: Shawn Hochuli; Field judge: Nick Lave; Side judge: Gene Semko

NU versus A&M -

Officials: Referee: Greg Burks; Umpire: Scott Campbell; Linesman: George Gusman; Line judge: Kevin Mar; Back judge: Shawn Hochuli; Field judge: Nick Lave; Side judge: Gene Semko"

We confirmed those officials by looking at the box scores of those games via The Sports Network Football Bowl Subdivision at ncaafootball.com (here, here and here). Definitely the same crew.

First, please use a thread title that actually describes what the topic is, not just a "look at this" title.

Second, there's no nothing at all in the referenced comments from AggieSports that says the refs did anything wrong except mistakenly point the wrong way twice on penalties. "two pass interference penalties" doesn't say that the wrong calls were made or that there is any bias. He's just stating facts with no judgement.

Third, we got beat by Texas because on the few times we could move the ball we dropped passes and we couldn't stop them when we needed to. I don't remember the refs playing a significant role in that game. I don't remember all that much vs. Iowa St either, for that matter.

Fourth, was a new thread really needed to talk about the refs and possible bias against us? Don't we have enough of these?

1st through 4th,

I could give a sh#t less whether you think this was important or not. I received an email and posted it for people to read. I guess we should all ask you your thoughts and ask permission to post items. If that is what you think then sorry for your over blown ego and hope you enjoy the self importance you have of yourself. I have been around this board for a very long time and the thought police around here is getting really old.

This had a different spin on some of the stats. Where did I say that the story said anything about the refs doing anything wrong? Please show me where in my post you see that. The fact remains that the same crew has done the games in which we lost and ISU that could have been a loss very easily.

I will not use a title that you say I should. If you dont want to read my posts I will not be bothered in the least. I am guessing that since mine was merged into another topic we will see the rest of them merged as well.

I sure hope I can iritate you some more in the future,

Have a nice day and let us little people know when you are tired of a subject so that we do not disturb your very important day.

Calm down. If you cannot calm yourself, you will be calmed.

I am clam just replying in kind to his post

Whether you're clam or oyster, your response was not warranted.

And his telling another what they can post and how to post it is OK. No Problem Sorry to disturb this board.

He didn't make it personal. Huge difference there.

Apology accepted, Captain Needa.
