Washington at Nebraska Preview

What a bunch of excuses. Wahhhh, we already beat Arizona, wahhh we weren't motivated.

 

You guys proved over the course of the season that you got worse while the Huskies proved that they got better at the end. And that's why you lost the Holiday Bowl. Not because Martinez was injured, not because you weren't interested, its because Washington was a better team at the end.

 

Washington won, despite your illegal tactics on pass defense, end of discussion.

 

Martinez was very much injured after the Missouri game. He was never the same... When he did return to action after a few games there were times when he took off and pre-injury Martinez would have been gone for an easy TD against Texas A&M etc. but he was caught being hobbled. Martinez was still very much injured as well as our center who had zero problems in Husky stadium, but got pushed around like a rag doll in the bowl game. Did your players really improve that much? Did our center just really forget everything and get weak? We didn't have a capable backup, so he played. It was quite evident the team was also not motivated to play. Still in the end Washington won, so it doesn't matter. Those of us who live in relaity just know HOW the victory happened for Wasington and see that it isn't as likely of a scenario this fall.

 

Reality is, Nebraska lost 3 of 4 to end the year and easily could have dropped another to Iowa state. Washington on the otherhand won 4 straight to end the year. Its simple what happened. Nebraska became a weaker team and Washington became a tougher team. Hence, you couldn't do anything on offense, you couldn't stop Chris Polk, we were just....oh so much better.

You're lucky Sark didn't figure out to run Chris Polk more in Game 1. All of Seattle saw that mismatch. Nebraska was having problems stopping him then. He figured it out in the rematch and your "physical" defense couldn't handle it.

We simply said "Well played" and "We'll get you next time" which we made good on.

We had a RS Frosh QB, a yound oline and we won more games than you in the end. Facing better competition. The young team excuse is not going to work here with us.

I don't think anybody here is disagreeing with the fact that Nebraska got worse and Washington got better. I think the main point is relatively simple - there's a reason we lost the Holiday Bowl, and there's a reason you lost in the non-conference. It's a new year and judging on talent, coaching and the fact that it's in Nebraska, we're probably going to win.

Most of them come on here, pretend the non-con game didn't happen and then say Nebraska has no reason to make excuses for their Holiday Bowl loss. I'm sorry, but your fans made handfuls of excuses for why Nebraska destroyed you in the non-conference. The truth of the matter is Nebraska suffered a key injury to the most important member of our offense, a member of our offense that masked the bad consistency and execution errors Nebraska had for many games during the season. Without Martinez at full healthy, we just weren't the same team plain and simple.

 

There's no way you or anybody can convince me that motivation wasn't a factor in that game. Nebraska got worse after the season went a long because of injuries and poor execution on offense, and was then told they had to go to a bowl game they did not expect to fall to and play a team they had dominated earlier in the season. And by dominate, I mean we literally made you look like you didn't belong on the field once the second half started. Washington, conversely, got better as the season progressed and made it to a bowl game that realistically speaking was better than what they deserved. Washington then had the chance to face a team that embarrassed them earlier in the season. Add those two things together and you have a motivated Washington team going against a Nebraska team that failed near the end of the season and fell to a bowl game they didn't want to be in. This team had BCS prospects that they let flounder away, and somehow they're supposed to be motivated to face a less talented Washington team? I'm sorry, but your argument is faulty.

 

Lastly, can you please tell me how upset you are about how Nebraska plays defense and all of those "illegal tactics" they use? Honestly, I love reading you complain. Nebraska has a top 10 defense to show for it, and Washington ranked what, exactly?

BroncoTed. The word "lulz" is actually an internet slang term and is not exclusively used by teenage girls. Although this does beg the question as to how you know? Spend a lot of time in internet chat rooms, do we?

 

How many times do I have to tell you there are reasons teams lose and win football games. You're purely a Husky homer that leaves no room for argument. I've admitted several times Washington was the better team in the Holiday Bowl, and so have most other Husker fans. It's time to give it up.

 

Furthermore, I'm still really interested in what your pass defense ranked last year. Your "non-illegal" tactics must have given you a really good defense, eh? I'm also really interested as to where you've seen people say Nebraska uses illegal defensive tactics. For argument's sake, you're not allowed to use anything from husky message boards, husky news sources or what you talk about around the poker table with your bros.

I dont think I ever said it was a fluke. I said Nebraska won that game fair and square. I think that Washington was in the middle of a growing process. I think by years end, Washington started to hit their potential, your guys' growth remained flat, we were a better team at the end.

 

Guys, cmon. Lets be honest. The Big 12 sucked last year and you still couldn't win it. The Pac-10 had two BCS teams who played well. Fact is, I never said Washington was "Awesome", its just...you werent that good.

Likewise that NU fans think that the defensive QB being I injured in the first game (Cort Dennison) and a true freshman, in his third game in college, is sent in to lead a defense. It's disingenuous of you to think that that had no impact on the game. Hell, at least you had Martinez there for the bowl game Dennison didn't even suit up for the first game.
