Nexus
This quote stood out the most. Ouch! He didn’t have big numbers but we didn’t have a quarterback to get him the ball. LINK Quote Link to comment
carlfense
So I sort of agree about Martinez's throwing ability . . . but I wish Niles Paul's on field results had lived up to Gilmore's hype. Honestly . . . Niles Paul? He'd be about my last choice to touch the ball when it's crunch time. Whatever "it" is . . . Paul lacked it. Quote Link to comment
Hercules
Niles Paul's success or lack thereof had little to do with whether the QB got the ball. He blew a lot of plays where he either already had the ball, or where the ball hit him right in the hands and he dropped it. Quote Link to comment
VA Husker Fan
I don't recognize the guy Gilmore is talking about. I recall a guy who had that kind of potential, but was always dropping balls or fumbling or not realizing that a ball on the ground was live or things like that. Could this be the same guy? bsbch
I hear Paul was a great locker room guy....a leader.... But between him and Donfumblous Robinson I aged 10 years when they were on the field at the same time...... Quote Link to comment
okaive
Can we say the loss to 10' Texas because of Paul? I know I am when I watched from row two in the end zone and he was right infront of me, wide open and didn't catch the damned ball (and there was no wind at all). Quote Link to comment

Don't forget Rex Burkhead who dropped a wide open TD pass Quote Link to comment
Landlord
Niles Paul could turn into a really good NFL receiver. If he does, it won't be because Ted Gilmore was right about him in this interview, it will be because Ted Gilmore is an atrocious position coach. Either way, you lose Ted. Quote Link to comment
Lil' Red
Paul was a talented receiver who made some big plays for us but I think he'll be remembered for his mistakes and fumbles like the 09 Iowa State game Quote Link to comment
Apathy
Niles Paul couldn't catch the ball even if his gloves were lathered up with super glue Quote Link to comment
zoogs
As poor a job as he did, I think Gilmore has a clue what he is talking about. That said, pretty poor PR from him awareness, or I guess, he's not employed here anymore, so he doesn't give two s---'s if he throws a current Husker player under the bus. Not going to endear him to fans at all, and he's already not a favorite. But bus-tossing aside, I think he's right about Paul's talent - and that he wasn't necessarily used as much as he could have been. I think the praise about Paul in other areas was coachspeak, an attempt to defuse the negativity and the perception that he's a bit of a headcase. That could go either way; it is hard to tell. But as I'm sure many of you would agree, why in the world would we not hope the best to be true for any of our players? Are we going to believe the unsupported rumors of him being more into the party scene than football, or his position coach's accounts of how seriously he took the game and took responsibility for his mistakes on and off the field? It is time to take this official report and shelve all the ridiculous anti-Niles sentiment. Quote Link to comment
NoLongerN
I will always remember Niles as a very good blocker. Quote Link to comment

I do wish the best for him, but I think we gave him every chance here, more than he earned with all of the drops and fumbles he had. He could turn out to be all-pro, and I still wouldn't regret that we didn't give him a bigger role here. I didn't blast him (much) while he was playing here, but I'm not going to quietly agree with the assessment that he was an under-utilized talent. Quote Link to comment
