What ARE our chances against Michigan?

Recommended Posts

I think it will depend on whether our defense starts playing like they should be capable of playing. Then the O-line needs to get their act together and open some holes and protect Martinez. Burkhead is also a key. But honestly I really think it is going to be up to the defense whether we win the game or not. I expect it to be close if we do.

Penn St.'s D is gonna own us plain and simple. The good thing is their offense is rather low scoring. I predict a rather low scoring game that will depend on the foot of Maher to win. Before anyone says well Penn St. hasn't played anyone. Remember they held Alabama to just 27 points. In all honesty Penn St. stayed closer to Alabama then both Arkansas and Florida did.

I very seriously doubt that.

I watched the Bama/PSU game and as soon as Bama got a two TD lead they were in the lazy cruise mode. Saban showed good class by not stomping JoPa but it wasn't at all like the game was in question whatsoever with zero PSU offense. I don't think "anybody" is going to crush our offense in the remaining Big10 games this year.

If the offense continues to improve Wisconsin won't either if we meet them in the ccg. Beck won't make the same mistake twice.

GBR!!

True the NU offense could be harder to contain as the season rolls on (the biggest test will come against Sparty's legit defense), but your defense still has to stop people which it has yet to do. Ohio State just rolled up 27 with a freshman QB. They only managed to score 7 against MSU and 6 against Miami.

I just don't see Wisconsin losing to Nebraska this year after scoring 41 through 3 quarters. If UW loses this year it'll be to MSU or OSU.

Fair enough my friend. With no major improvement on defense we're not going to outscore everybody. We'll see.....

Good time for a bye week. I think the defense we saw [coverage wise] will stay improved throughout the rest of the year. This is going to give more flexibility to Bo and Carl to run the defense like they want to, by blitzing more LBs instead of just dropping them into coverage to help a leaky secondary. So long as the LBs don't lose contain on Robinson, Michigan shouldn't be a problem.

However, this is assuming the secondary keeps covering the way it did. Most of Bauserman's passes were overthrown, but they were covered a majority of the time as well.

Michigan beat Northwestern despite Shoelaces throwing three INT's. At this juncture unless we improve a ton, there's a slim to none chance of us beating Michigan. Michigan's offense is lightyears ahead of Ohio States. Michigan's defense is pretty decent. Considering we looked like a monkey humping a football for almost three quarters against Ohio State, I could easily see this game as being worse than when we played against Wisconsin. At this juncture in the season according to Rivals, Michigan has a top 10 total defense which is nine spots higher than Ohio State's. Michigan's offense is #21 while Ohio State is 35 spots from the bottom. I give us about as much of a chance to beat Michigan as Lloyd had ending up with Mary.

Michigan's defense hasn't proved squat yet.

NW with a hobbled Persa "might" be an indication but I doubt it. Persa completed 32 of 45 passes for 331 yds. They didn't really stop him. Notre Lame rushed for 198 yds & passed for 315 yds on them. To say the very least neither of those two teams that played Michigan are overwhelming (at all). The rest are crispy, creamy puffballs.

I see NU lighting up their defense like a Christmas tree.

Sadly, unless our defense improves massively they'll do the same to us. But even so it's a shootout with whoever scoring last wins. Bo has three weeks to get something working for the blackshirts. Don't count him out.

GBR!!

I pretty much agree, it just depends if either Martinez or Robinson are injured when the two teams meet in the season.......

If both play I have feeling the score will be in the high 40s atleast, hell I wouldnt count out both scores being in the 60s. It could be one helluva game if like offense, around here we will take anything.

Michigan's defense has struggled against Notre Dame and Northwestern. Our offense will be able to move the ball as long as they minimize mistakes.

Unless we see a COMPLETE turnaround on our defense, we're going to struggle to contain Robinson. However, there are going to be 2-4 times in the game where he throws a ball that could be intercepted, and I think the game will be decided on whether we make those plays or not.

there could also be 5-6 times martinez could throw a ball that gets intercepted..

I don't think so. I think Beck learned what he can and can't do against Wiscy. He'll have TM throw a lot of dink and dunk, and try and stretch the field a couple times. Maybe, maybe 1 or 2 picks, but Beck will try and keep things as clean as he can.

Martinez throws interceptions when he forces things, but I think he demonstrated that he had learned his lesson against Ohio State. As long as Beck doesn't ask him to force things (e.g. end of first half against Ohio State), I have far more confidence in him than I would in Denard Robinson. I don't watch Denard Robinson nearly as much, but even against a weak Northwestern defense, Denard threw three bad interceptions. He hasn't yet shown me that he can learn from his mistakes quite like Martinez has.

I also think that Michigan is a little less willing to adapt their offense to Denard than Nebraska is with Martinez. Beck has shown he'll do whatever it takes to play to his players' strengths, even if he messes that up sometimes. Michigan is asking Robinson to be more of a WCO QB, which he isn't. They are still letting him run though, and that's where he kills people. We'll have to contain him.

I bet DRob doesn't get 1% of the insulting crap from his fans as ours does. He gets picked three times by a non-existent NW defense and you hardly hear about it. Tmart gets picked three times by a good Wisky defense and the wailing, sobbing, crying & moaning overflows the Missouri river.

That's cause they are undefeated. As soon as they lose, look out.
