HuskerHacker
A series win against Purdue and win against Creighton the following Mid-week would most likely put us in the top 30. likewise though, a series loss against Purdue isn't the end of the season either. Winning the remaining series and reaching 40 wins through the conference tourney will likely be enough to get us into a regional but likely won't equate into us hosting. (Though with the lack of Northern teams one can't say for certain we wouldn't host.) Quote Link to comment
hskrfan4life
HH, I am truly getting more and more confident in this team as we approach Friday. I'll be at my ESPN call center watching it and cheering on the huskers with other fans. I am hoping to see a sweep which would be shweet! Quote Link to comment
HuskerHacker
a series sweep is not something I'll project nor will I expect it. (The BIG 10 Ghosts have risen up and bitten us in every sport this year. Call it the initiation woes.) Still, winning the series is very much achievable and especially if we can manage a Friday night win. If we "don't" put Purdue's lead off batter on in 6 of the 9 innings we'll be fine. Walks have hurt our staff more then anything else and so its extremely important that we reduce them. Purdue has a team batting avg of .325 (tops in the BIG) and they've done that while having face 2 of the top statistical pitching staffs in D!. (Missouri State, Maryland) Nebraska also has faced one of the top statistical staffs in Gonzaga. Time will tell but I'm obviously anxious. hskrfan4life
That is very true HH. Keeping the leadoff man off base is going to be a key in this series. Quote Link to comment
HuskerHacker
Stats show that Purdue's staff doesn't walk many batters.. 8th ranked "Walks per 9 innings" team while conversely the huskers are ranked 128th giving up 3.57 walks per 9 innings. (scary) Have to resolve this somehow. Grrr!!!! The defense has been solid all year, currently ranked 22nd in fielding % while purdue is ranked 63rd. The scariest thing about the weekend is Purdue's strike out to walks ratio... currently ranked 13th while the huskers are ranked 206th. 13 Purdue 0 294 220 76 2.89 206 Nebraska 0 340 209 135 1.55 Quote Link to comment

That, and Silva is a master coach to get what he can out of our current squad for pitching. Purdue is unfortunately the exact type of team that can negate our advantage at the plate and make us look silly. If anything, it will be a good primer for the NCAA Tourney, as I'm pretty confident we'll get 40+ wins and into the Top 25 at some point this season. Quote Link to comment

I'll bet with the announcement that you can use your Spring Game ticket for baseball berm seats that there will be a lot of people there - presuming the weather is nice. Friday is supposed to be 60 degrees and raining. Quote Link to comment
Lyons in the Sea of Red.
Yeah I dont expect too big of a splurge in attendance. It's not going to be that nice. Quote Link to comment
huskerhill
Friday - low 60's - wind14-16 mph gust of 24 mph - 20% chance of rain. Saturday - mid to upper 60's - no wind - 0% chance of rain Sunday - lower 70's - no wind - 0% chance of rain Pretty nice for mid april. The wife and I plan on going Saturday but may go sunday (or both days) since Sunday appears to be alittle nicer. Quote Link to comment

If they postpone the game Friday, the B1G damn well better cover it live on Saturday--it's not like they're broadcasting anything of import that day on their network. Quote Link to comment
HuskerHacker
bha.... forecaster's are only correct part of the time. let's hope this weekend hold true to averages that prove extended forecasts are rarely correct. 70° and sunny is perfect ballpark weather. Friday is the coolest in the forecast with 58° temps... Saturday and Sunday are in the 60's Quote Link to comment
hskrfan4life
no rain please. I want to watch this at work. Makes time go by faster. Quote Link to comment
