Gun Control

It's a simple question. Are we allowed to place limitations on the people's right to bear arms? If not, why can't I go buy a missile launcher to defend myself?

Missile Launchers are explosives. And you can not own explosives above a 'fireworks' grade, and in some places not even that. Explosives are not 'firearms'.

To the earlier with apples and oranges. The fact the other counties even have gun related murders means the gun bans are ineffective. People still got their hands on guns, in some cases on an island, even being illegal to own.

Yep, any hunter worth his ammo costs doesn't need a semi-automatic.

It's not about hunters.

Then why do you need a semi-automatic?

Why does anyone need a television? or a lot of the things we Americans want? It's about the second amendment and the right to bear arms.

Does the right to bear arms include a canon? An F16? Maybe a nuclear bomb? Because if no limitations are allowed, why can't I go buy a missile launcher?

Answers a lot of what you are asking. Trying to find the entire interview.

Because if you are defending yourself against 1 person you dont need a missle launcher. If you are defending yourself against a bunch of people you need a bushmaster. I said this on my FB. He could of done the same damage with handguns and more ammo clips. It had nothing to do with the gun or the type of gun. Do you know what a slug from a pump action shotgun would do to anyone if hit in the head. I guarantee you that would be a much more gruesome sight then a frigging bushmaster. Guns are not the problem it is the people, lots of things kill people every day for one reason or another but we chose guns for what reason. Because a person directly uses that means to kill people. Someone with a huge truck could drive into a shopping center and mow down lots of friendlies walking around but no one wants to talk away trucks. People fly in airplanes but when they brake they crash to the ground killing hundreds of people on the plane and whomever might be on the ground but were not limiting air travel. A husband can get pissed of at his wife for screwing around on her. Bust a dish and stap her to death with that but were not going to stop making precious china. When are people going to be held responsable, Newsflash, there is an entire generation of kids growing up without morals or any beliefs. They continue to get there culture through tv and videogames. And im not saying we need to change tv or videogames but these kids need to be taught the difference between reality and fantasy. To be taught about what it means to be a good person, have a good moral standards. But no, we get kids having kids, people killing eachother on the street for street cred. No sence of decency or morals or anything to keep a person from just wasting themselves in there own despair. It used to be just themselves, then it turned into there classmates. Now it has turned into whomever will get the largest reaction from the media. I am a gun supporter but i do not own guns anymore but if i could afford one i would purchase it. We need to start at home with the raising of the kids, that will be the biggest impace. Having love and compassion to your fellow man. That be your classmate, your co worker, someone on the street. Just having common f'ing decency would make someone feel alittle less like a dogturd and maybe give them something to be positive about. We as a society need to take a step back as to what we let our kids see and hear while they grow up. The mind isnt ready for certain things at a young age when things are confusing enough as it is. I hope and pray that love is brought back into society, love and compassion for your fellow man or woman. Guns are only the tool, people are the source.

And I never get why "gun control" always gets people to go right towards, "They're taking all our guns away!1eleven!" Serious derp there.

With this case that is the only thing that is getting talked about. The guns the shooter used were not his guns. And they were bought legally in a state that has some of the tougher gun control laws as it is. How else would any form of 'gun control' that is not outright banning guns going to prevent this case? Its not.

By the media yes, but there are plenty of people who are focusing on mental health issues instead. I've been on medications for depression and anxiety and experienced first-hand how much they can f#*k you up. We're an overmedicated society and a good portion of the time the pills make things worse. Between that and exposure to violence in the news(TV, video games, music etc.) day after day we wind up with what we've seen in the past 15 years.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, but I don't know that there is any hope for that. Not until people have to go through an application process to have children and we neuter all the idiots (which is a huge number)

You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.

It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single *victim* of Columbine? Disturbed

people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the k!ller's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the k!ller's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news.

Morgan Freeman didn't say that. Sorry... http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/newtown.asp

Although I generally agree with it. I don't see any possible solution working for gun control. And mental health issues aren't going away overnight. The only thing that can be done in short order is to either arm teachers or have security at school. It would be nice if the media focused on good things once in awhile, but that's not likely to happen either. I heard on MPR someone suggesting the shooter's names never be released, and with that I definitely agree. But I'm not sure how you'd prevent that from happening either. The victim's families probably want to know WHY someone would do this and I think they deserve to understand what motivated it.

As a parent with kids in school, I'd prefer to have a policeman stationed at the school. I've had a few teachers over the years that seemed pretty unstable, and who's to say that one of them wouldn't do the same thing? If crazies are deterred from schools, they'll just go to daycares or something worse. Not sure there is a good solution. I guess you just have to hope that people start paying closer attention to those that they know with mental illness and try to help them rather than ignoring them.

They didnt have explosives to a degree like that back when it was written. Only black powder to hurl huge balls of lead at people. Basically a huge musket of sorts. So yea your right, why cant i get any explosives or automatic weapons. I think your on to something Junior

You can buy explosives, find out what licenses you need and how to get them and you're off.

You can buy fully automatic weapons, get a Level 3 FFL.

Not really, why are explosives exempted? Isn't a missile a form of arm?

Yeah, and he says you probably should be able to buy them. You are able to "bare" that arm, and the Constitution says that.

Also you can own a cannon. The girl I dated in high school, dad had two of them.

How come we don't ban cars? Cars kill thousands of people every year. It's easily preventable. We just have to ban cars.

Agree 100%. Only a sick person would want to do any of this. While this thread is about gun control, the over arching issue is mental health and how to identify these people before they get to this point.

I think you are confusing "On purpose" and "accident"

Now, had this a-hole drove his car into the school, down the halls, into the offices, into the classrooms, ran over 20 kids, 6 adults, then got out of the the car, rigged it so that it would "drive" over himself, ending his life, THEN you would have an argument. Until then, not so much.

It is okay to be mad, to be filled with anger and hate right now, that's okay. It really is, you don't have to try to be "rational" guy right now. This is not an "If...Then" type of moment, this is a "let people vent" moment. You know that, come on.
