10 ton meteor explodes over Russia

And another one explodes over Cuba? LINK That is a freakishly improbable coincidence. It's unlikely that both would even hit over land, let alone hit over two of our Cold War enemies. Are we testing some sort of weapon or something?

the video is crazy. So much for this stuff not getting through the atmosphere...

When has that ever been said?

Maybe rare, but is it freakishly improbable? Meteorite incidence is extremely common, although larger ones are not nearly as much.

What's funny though is that Russian lawmaker Vladimir Zhirinovsky claimed that these were American weapons tests and linked them to US secstate John Kerry. I wonder what the reaction in Russia is to those comments? Casual acceptance of his anti-West tilt? Or is the guy going to get disgraced?

Hard to imagine how much disgrace a guy has left to suffer though, given this was his presidential campaign ad:

Not only is is not freakishly improbable, but it makes a lot of sense. There is a good chance that these two meteors both originated from the same source, one loosely-built asteroid or comet. Think about the annual Persids, Taurids, etc which occur when Earth passes through the tail path left by certain comets. I think it's probable that Earth's gravity captured (and perhaps tore apart) a crumbly asteroid. Of course, it could be pure coincidence too. Hopefully astronomers dig a little more into this!
