Washusker
As you all know by now, Boise State coach Dan Hawkins is about to be hired as the new coach at CU. I for one am a bit worried at the proposition. He's had terribly good teams for the past few years, and that was at Boise. One can imagine the types of teams he could put together with the better athletes available to Big 12 schools. CU has just thrown down the gauntlet, in my opinion. We had better get ready, cause offense like we've never seen (perhaps w/Texas Tech) is coming out of Boulder. Regardless of how this effects the product on the field, Hawkins is a good guy and should be a good start toward rebuilding the image left behind by that dirtbag Gary Barnette. Good hire. Let's just hope Hawkins' system falls apart at the Big 12 level... Quote Link to comment
chuckd
I guess I really like the fact that everyone thinks he is the next Urban Meyer. This probably means people are expecting immediate results (of course we know the CU fans wouldn't ever jump to judgement or anything) and if he doesn't perform in his first couple of years, they will get impatient-not that i like to see any chaos at CU I could be way off and maybe he will be the next "big thing" although if that is true, I don't see him staying with the buffs real long. Utah_Husker
I can tell you he's the real deal. I've seen his team on TV plenty out here and once in person. He does amazing things with what could be considered inferior talent. And it's not all offense. He has put together some decent defenses over the years as well. Quote Link to comment
hack
CU have to do more than change their playcaller, they have to change the culture. unless they clean-up their house and make it so parents feel safe sending their kid to Boulder, the Buff will continue to have problems. and unless their new AD is nothing less than serious about reigning in the smaktard elements of the buff booster crowd, they're always gonna look like a bunch of drunken, unruly clowns. so here's to you, Coach Hawkins: hope you do the changin' at Colorado and not the other way around. Eric the Red
It will take a few years, but what everyone has stated I also agree with. There going to have some recruiting issues with reduced scholerships and also the stigma. Quote Link to comment
chad1971
He had 100% control at boise state - it's easy to win when no one challenges what you do. At cu he will be under a microscope from the media and the university - it's a different ballgame when your shackled. Quote Link to comment
huskerstag
Personally, I hope he succeeds at turning their program into a positive site for college football. If he succeeds as a coach, then that's ok with me too. Depending on how Prince does as KSU, the big XII could have quite an assembly of talent in the conference, which I'm not afraid of. HANC
As much as I hate to admit it, this is a great hire ..... I believe that he may be the perfect fit for the situation... I think he will clean house, and with his reputation, it won't take long to re-fill the house... Boise has had very good teams with less talent... I for one am a little concerned what may happen when this guy gets the type of talent that revolves around the Big 12.... But, I am excited to see what BC does when our talent level increases..... I also think a young Ron Prince may eventually be the answer for KSU.... Agree with Huskerstag, it may not be long that NU, CU, KSU begin to flex their muscle in the Big 12..... the North really needs a few teams to step up... As much as I want NU to win the North every year, until the North gets better, and yes, this includes KSU-CU, the champion will get no respect.... I want NU to win a tough division. chad1971
He road out 5 years of the previous coaches recruits - Sound famillier? cu is going to be a average team - He hadd 100% control at bsu, at cu he will be shackled by sanctions and the adimin, and the media. Quote Link to comment
NUpolo8
I have serious doubts whether or not his offese can work in the Big 12. There are alot of ball control teams int his conf and he will not have the chance to have 55-42 games as often as he did in the WAC. Plus, he has never coached a team that had green homefield turf. That alone ought to be a few years adjustment Quote Link to comment

gamecocks
I personally don't know if he will succeed at Colorado. He seems to me, to be a laid back individual and I don't exactly know if that is what Colorado needs to win right away. I like him as a coach, but I don't know if his style meets the style that Colorado likes to be. Quote Link to comment

NamelessHusker
Boise has had very good teams with less talent... I for one am a little concerned what may happen when this guy gets the type of talent that revolves around the Big 12.... Just thought i do a little research and see what Hawkins has done at Boise. After looking at what he's done, I'm not really surprised, nor do i expect Colorado to even be a contender in the Big12 North. I give Hawkins 3 years before he's fired, unless the Big12 teams in the North all have losing seasons. Playing in the WAC where 5 of your 9 teams are not even bowl eligible is different then playing in a Big12 North where 5 of the 6 are eligible and 8 of 12 are eligible.
