Reference Point of Other Teams' Success Against Top 25

Which is it? Coaching or talent?

Both. One can partially make up for a lack of the other (2009) - but when you lack both, you get 2012/2013 - and a continuation of the blowouts we experience season after season.

Since we are beating a dead horse here, do I need to point out that the years you point out 2012/2013 were affected by bad recruiting classes and multiple injuries?

We saw at the end of last year that the recruiting has greatly improved since Bo's first two classes (looking at the defensive side) but it is hard to overcome losing a 4 year starter at QB, multiple receivers, and half the OLine.

You can't blame the defense for the losses to MSU and Iowa. They can only stop a drive starting at their own 5 yard like so many times.

So you agree we lack talent in those years, largely because of bad recruiting classes which is about 60% (unfortunately) of a coaches job description these days. Gotcha. And based on 1 potentially good class you've determined we are fixed in the talent department, despite last year's 25 beginning to drop like flies. And let's be honest, it wasn't the first 2 classes, it was the first 4 (with some JUCO exceptions which aren't helping out this season at all). The 10' class (this years seniors) will provide around 3 guys in the 2 deep this season that will have much of an impact. Maybe 4. The 11' class, maybe 4-5. The jury is still out on 12', but we've lost a number of them to attrition as well. So, is the 13' class full of talent, or just on the field more because the lack of talent left on the roster from the prior 4? Time will tell.

Can't blame the defense for 2 losses, so I can't blame coaching. Hmmm...

Not trying to be a jerk but there is honestly no other way to say this: Do you actually do any research on this or do you just make these numbers up?

The reason the Class of 2010 only has a few contributors left is because most of them have graduated. Kenny Bell, Corey Cooper, Jake Cotton, Mike Moudy and Josh Mitchell will all be starters - not just three or maybe four on the two deep. The class was helped by three JUCOs who are now gone (Lavonte David, Jermarcus Hardrick and SJB) and have or will play in the NFL. There were also starters who have graduated and thus not around anymore - Quincy Enunwa, Ciante Evans, Andrew Rodriguez. 50% is pretty much how recruiting goes and this class had 50% become starters and at least four go to the NFL. If that's a bad class for us, we're in pretty good shape.

4-5 from the Class of 2011? If Ameer Abdullah, Taariq Allen, Daniel Davie, Charles Jackson, Givens Price, Ryne Reeves, David Santos, Zach Sterup, Jamal Turner and Kevin Williams count as half a player each then you'd be about right.
