Hunter94
So that makes it ok? SEC here we come! No it's never ok, but some people think Osborne led a squeaky clean program and walked on water. Listen I will always be a HUGE fan of TO but like every coach, he has done some things that he hasn't been proud of. True, there are things TO himself wishes he'd done differently. Back in the mid-90's we became thugskers for a reason. Bo has certainly run a cleaner program than TO but he had temper issues and mouthed-off a ton. Devaney wasn't perfect either, dude was a total lush. Solich is generally known as a good guy but have a DUI in Ohio. Yes Tressel does have some baggage and no I don't buy the altruistic spin on what happened at OSU but overall he's a good guy like the other three are and Devaney was. perfection doesn't exist in a coach........keeping Phillips was TO's albatross. QMany
I just hope Eichorst doesn't let this thing drag on long enough to damage our program and flush another recruiting class down the toilet. This is what I'm afraid might be happening. I hope I'm wrong. I want to be wrong. Quote Link to comment

Mavric
Fake Coach Miles @FakeCoachMiles now50 seconds ago If NU hires Tressel, my tattoo bet with @_TP5 just got a whole lot cheaper. #nebrasketball #huskers Quote Link to comment
Mavric
Samuel McKewon @swmckewonOWH 45s46 seconds ago FWIW, President Tressel has YSU Board of Trustees meetings today. So if you're just *certain* he's the guy, I'm sure he'd let em know. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
I actually completely believe Tressel when he says he will never coach again. He spent many many years catering to prema-donna 18 year old kids thinking they are entitled to everything simply because they can run fast and play football. Along with that, he has had to cater to spoiled fans who think they are entitled to demanding his job if he doesn't do things exactly right. NOW, he has a very nice job actually working with adults and a more mature working environment. I would be shocked if he coaches ever again. PS....I would be much less surprised if he was hired as the University President. Quote Link to comment
Urban Myth
I would be careful with Jim Tressel for several reasons but also probably give the go ahead if they still feel he has it: 1.His first season at Ohio State was extremely poor for the talent they had. It was before he began with the boosters "slush fund" gift system for "acheiving" players. This is how he got S Mike Doss to come back for his Senior year and what Tressel promised for better efforts which clearly started translating next season. This "gift" system he eventually got caught lying about, was only the tip of the iceberg. It was as bad as USC or any SEC team. Ohio State got off light in comparison. I am not sure how that will go over in Nebraska. Tom Osbourne(especially with Steroids) and Bobby Bowden were accused of this as well and got little damage to their reputation. 2.He is a very average at best X/O's coach 3.He is a decent, but not overly good recruiter(though compared to the rest of the BIG.....). Maybe at Nebraska that doesn't mean as much. OSU, we find the limitations in the 2006-08 bowl seasons. On the plus side, he is highly competitive, loves to win and likes "street fight football". Something Nebraska badly lacked under Pelini(and the Big Ten in general) and why Wisconsin had a tendency to give Tressel tough fights despite the talent gap. To me, Nebraska should weigh the pros/cons of Tressel's age and desire. If they feel he doesn't have the same fire anymore, they should pass. If they feel still has the "tickle", go full steam ahead. I don't see Tressel having the "off field" pull in Nebraska he did in Ohio so the program can stay clean. He may be a solid 9-3 coach with a year or two of something more before he calls it quits. I would sure love for you to elaborate on this "slush fund" gifting program you speak of. Did you read a different report from the NCAA? The one I read several years back did not mention anything of the sort. It came down to him covering up the act of six players exchanging their own trophies/awards for tattoos. And his first year at Ohio State was not as terrible as you act. He had a very average team that year. 7-5 was enough to make people worry for several months, but that 14-0 season that followed certainly silenced the doubters. You also might want to look back on his recruiting. He may have had one class outside the top 15 in the ten years he was here. He consistently had classes ranked in the top 10. From an X's and O's standpoint, you won't find anyone better. He always had a clear game plan that was executed to near perfection for the better part of 10 years. He's the most realistic homerun hire the Nebraska athletic department can get. Quote Link to comment

Mavric
Adam Rittenberg @ESPNRittenberg 20m20 minutes ago Just heard from Jim Tressel. Said he had "no involvement" with Nebraska. Committed to YSU. Thinks Mike Riley is a "great choice." Quote Link to comment
Urban Myth
I had a feeling that could be the case. It's too bad SE didn't at least think about Tressel as an option. It could've been the perfect matchup. Hopefully Riley works out for all of you. I didn't know much about him until looking him up after the announcement. He sounds like a real class act. Maybe it'll translate to results on the football field. I heard the comparison between Oregon State and Indiana. If anyone had that kind of success at Indiana, that coach might be the real deal. It could be a great fit. Quote Link to comment
