huskerfan92
Mav, the inside running game sucks. It has been that way since the first game. The question is, why do they stick with it over and over and over? It's too frustrating..... I hear you man. What else is frustrating is that it took Newby getting injured for Ozigbo to see the field. As soon as he gets his chance he's out there making plays. Why he hasn't seen the field lately is mind boggling. And Wilbon appearing in the opening game and then gone forever....why? I want the Huskers to be successful, and will always support the team. But this coaching staff is making it as hard as possible for us to earn their trust, and they deserve every bit of criticism that comes their way. 1 Quote Link to comment
Mavric
Second possession: 1&10, -21 - Inside zone to Newby off the Jet Sweep fake, gains 3. At least it was 6 on 6 this time. 2&8, -24 - Inside run to Newby with a TE Wham block but it was 6 guys blocking 7 and the extra guy got the tackle for a 3 yard gain. We threw to Westy for the first down on 3rd & 4. 1&10, -31 - Same FB lead we ran on the first series but we have 7 guys to block 8. Kondolo is asked to reach the DT lined up outside of him but can't. Newby got critisism here but there was nowhere to go. If Janovich goes straight to the OLB Newby might have been able to slip through but Jano momentarily doubled the DE. Newby's only negative yardage play. Newby gets a first down on a screen pass on the next play, then we hit Westy for 20. 1&10, +38 - Straight give to Cross up the middle against 8 guys in the box. Gets 3. 2&7, +35 - Straight give to Newby up the middle. 7 guys to block 8 and Kondolo completely whiffs. Believe it or not but Newby actually gains 2 yards on this. The next play was the botched snap. So we spent most of this possession running straight up the middle. Not great blocking but not giving ourselves a lot of chances by running up the middle while out-numbered. 5 Quote Link to comment

admo
Mav, you don't have to do this. We are way past this unfortunately. Love the effort and work you do on breaking down these plays. Take a knee Captain. It's not needed. Quote Link to comment
brophog
Excellent posts, Mav. There are simple adjustments that can be made to complement plays to allow these running plays to function with proper numbers, but sadly we tend to choose to abandon them for failing, as we were told in the post game today. Micheal
I just don't understand on in 40 years of coaching Riley didn't learn what a balanced offense is. I mean, usually if someone is bad at their job they don't make it in the profession very long. One other thing, I think Langsdorf calls these sucky run plays to show us that beg for a running game that it won't work, that he is right and passing is the way to go. Once he thinks he has proved it in the game, it is now air line time. Only thing is his air lines end in missed flights, TSA searches and lost luggage. Quote Link to comment
AFhusker
You are not going to win more than about 5% of your games when your opponent scores 55! You must play DEFENSE and SPECIAL TEAMS. Both we awful today They only needed at total of 63 yards to get 5 TD's. That is on the offense and the 5 turnovers. This team is a dumpster fire right now on both sides of the ball. xlbder
Last year we ran Cross 20+ times and won. Howmany TD's he get yesterday? Quote Link to comment

NoLongerN
Three negative running plays and four INT's with a new QB in his first game ... hmmm. There are all kinds of running plays that are tried and true. I would suggest to MR that he chose some bad running plays and then simply gave up on the run. We had RB's like Ozigbo yesterday that caught three passes but never got a running touch. Go figure. Bowfin
HayBakerMark is on to something. If Riley uses the same criteria with passing as he did with running, how come Riley didn't give up on the pass after the second interception? Quote Link to comment
Saunders
96 passes, and 67 rushes the last 2 games. Purdue was last in the conference in rush D and we threw the ball 48 times. I don't even... 1 Quote Link to comment
PaulCrewe
So Cav obviously thinks the likes of farrmer and foster can't move a guy at least a yard and a half past the LOS. Cause he says this is his best line and they can't get any movement forward at all unless they leave a guyto go miss a block on the second level. Seriously look at the provided screen shots and look at how piss poor the oline push is. Its a joke. Let the backups play 1 Quote Link to comment
