ColoradoHusk
My father retired recently after 40 years as a teacher and then principal, citing being tired with dealing with the role. So when he said that I asked him this exact same question, and his reply was: "The kids haven't changed. Kids are kids. It's the parents who have changed." In general what he meant is that the parents and school used to be on the same side, but now for the most part parents question and battle them constantly. https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1r59ii/teachers_with_20_years_of_experience_how_have/cdjpt3f/ I would agree with you father on this point after teaching for 21 years. I don't know how many times parents took their childs side when they were in the wrong and fought tooth and nail about something. There was always some parent every year that thought their kid was being picked on by teachers, even though the kid was a real jerk. There was also great parents that were a blessing to work with. I trade emails with Teach on this topic all the time. More often than not, parents are going to side with the kids now, instead of agreeing with the teacher. It has to suck for teachers to be constantly undermined by parents who think their kid can do no wrong. Quote Link to comment

Ha, it's not my dad, it's a post I came across on Reddit. But yes, I agree with you! Quote Link to comment
Stumpy1
Parents are one of the biggest complaints my wife has when she comes home from school. She said they deal with it on a daily basis and it has finally gotten to the point where the principal told a parent last week that if they don't like how the teachers are handling situations involving their child, they are more then welcome to take their kid to another school.
