interesting day in Russia....a ll-76 military transport crashed,  Russian troops who support Ukraine invaded Kursk and Belgorod from Ukraine side and managed to shoot down a SU-27,  and drones set the largest oil refinery in Russia on fire.   the 3 day SMO is going well.

Drone strikes on the A-50 facility in Russia over the weekend too (they potentially damage another one). But Ukraine suffered a huge blow by losing a patriot missile battery to a Russian hypersonic missile. Now Russia is trying to stir some s#!t by saying it could have killed US personnel in the strike, but the US continues to deny any personnel are inside Ukraine.

And Macron in France is still trying to act like he has some type of power to exert in all this making empty threats of placing troops into Ukraine. The French are far from world leaders these days, and they will not rally anyone around their cause when they continue to do their own thing internationally.

Seems like everyone is trying to make their moves for a spring offensive.

I thought it was up in the air if it was the whole battery? More so debated if it was a few of the launchers (if that is the right terminology) and not the whole system.

FWIW...they didn't get the entire battery.  just 2 of the launchers.   a patriot system has a fire control center, a radar system, and up to 6 launchers.   that battery is still working minus those 2 launchers.

I used the wrong term, yes only the launchers were destroyed. Still expensive and a big blow.

They are getting a lot of expensive and irreplaceable western equipment destroyed here lately.

well....only 2 launchers in over a year of operation.    in a war that is a remarkable rate of survival.  there will be more losses but that system is doing great.   kind of wonder how an  iron dome (a much newer system) would work in Ukraine?   we won't find out since israel needs all of theirs right now.

They don't have a lot of these, and obviously can't get them backfield easily if at all. I think I saw that the loss was effectively a 13% reduction in their patriot capabilities.

Wat?

The Patriot system is decades old now. Hardly irreplaceable.

It’s old but they likely aren’t going to get more. And is still expensive.

It's not irreplaceable, but they probably won't get a replacement for some time (the US isn't in a giving mood right now). Not to mention new crews will probably need to be trained.

Will they be able to get them before their economy, manpower, logistics, & equipment is overrun remains to be seen. They have/are now losing a lot of western equipment within the last week.

Russia has been losing a lot of high value equipment as well. The A-50s being taken out is a huge deal, not just for the Ukrainian front, but for Russia's overall defense on all borders. There's also the half dozen jets shot down a few weeks ago. As well as Ukraine continuing to take out Russian anti air. Nobody's saying much but it really feels like Ukraine is gearing up for a big push by plowing the road right now... Logistically it would be risky. We'll see...
