**Official 2019 Mariners/Mets Misery Thread**

Recommended Posts

Even though the Mariners are going 162-0 (I hereby request all Ms games are played in Japan) there is a small (not small) chance they are going to be absolutely terrible this year.  ITT my fellow Ms fan shall commiserate with me about how the 'roster reimaging' is going.  I also want to welcome @Mavric to join us, while the Mets are looking up...as Mav well knows they're still the Mets.  I shall also use this thread to alternately go between glee and fury about the Mets/Ms trade from this past year.

If they can get pitching like last year - or anywhere close - they should be competitive.

Unfortunately I think the rest of the division made a lot of improvements but I'm not sure the Mets kept up.

HEY!!!!! WE DID SOMETHING RIGHT!!!!!

Too bad we'll still be paying Bobby Bonilla after Trout's contract is up but still, baby steps....

That DeGrom extension made my day yesterday. The Mets had no business allowing a home grown star to walk or even play unhappy - but I was starting to worry our cheap @ss owners were going to screw up another easy decision.

@Xmas32 Tee hee we got Diaz! Cano actually might not be bad either especially if the NL moves to using a DH in the next couple years as rumors imply.

Ugh, yeah watching Diaz get traded away was a stomach punch but I'm glad they were able to get some some pieces of value, plus there was no way to trade the Cano contract on it's own.  I try not to get too high or low on relief pitching because it's so fickle but Diaz sure was fun to have as a late inning weapon.  He was masterful last year.  I do think Cano will be a useful bat for the next couple years as he was always able to hit...not sure how his defense will hold up but hey, not my guy anymore haha.

Well the trade looks like a winner so far! Cano homers in his first real AB as a Met and drives in our only other run later. And Diaz gets the save!

Great start to the BVW era for the Mets. DeGrom is unreal to watch throw the baseball right now.

Mariners still on pace for 162-0.  Chris Sale confirmed terrible pitcher.

The Mets/Nats game was a lot of fun to watch yesterday.  Great pitching matchup and the game moved at a pretty good clip.

Rookie Pete Alonso is the first player in modern baseball (since 1900) to have 11 extra base hits in their first 10 games.  Previous record was 9.

1 of 8 players in history with 14 RBIs in 10 games.

Not too shabby.

Also, DeGrom's impressive quality start steak ended last night.

Ms now a respectable 13-2 on the year after brooming the Royals.

Sure, they're essentially a slow pitch softball team that is trotting out a lineup of 4 DHs but hey!   They also steal bases too!  I'm all for a world where Dan Vogelbach has a 410 wRC+

Does your pitcher doing something that's only been done six times in Major League history - giving up 8 runs without recording an out - qualify for this thread?

Yes ..... yes it does

The Mets have scored a total of two runs in their last three games.

One of those was on a home run by a pitcher.

McNeil is the one guy who has hit while everyone else has taken a couple weeks off.

And this seems pretty good.

I did not realize Minnesota was as good as they are.  Absolute pounding on the Ms with the exception of Sunday.

As for the Mets....yikes.

Flat out crushing the baseball.  We'll see if they can keep it up.

I am all for the Mariners embracing a slow pitch softball style approach where all games will be 10-9.

And yet the Mets still managed to allow four runs in the bottom of the ninth to lose.....

Update:

The Mets bullpen blows.

Come on.  All good teams should give up 6 runs in the 11th every now and again.......

The only ones who are worth a crap right now are Lugo and Diaz. Familia just seems broken. Gsellman can't hack it right now. All the other also rans generally just get shellacked.

At least they're having a good draft. Dripping with upside with the high school picks they've made.

Of course the Mariners would trade for a guy who was once part of their system.  Thank goodness for Campbell from Arkansas providing a nice distraction yesterday.  He looked really sharp yesterday shutting down a FSU offense that had been raking pretty good as of late.

Watch the Mets' bullpen or poke myself in the eye with a stick?

Kind of a tough choice....

Oh Mets....it's like you think being a clownshow on the field isn't enough...you gotta threaten reporters now too!

I wonder how many games the Mets have to lose before they realize throwing the same derpy bullpen arms out there night after night that can't get anybody out isn't going to get it done.

Mets break the Yankees streak as the Yankees pen blows the lead and the Mets pen gets the save.

Likely the high point of the month.

We lowly Mets fans finally have something to celebrate!

I don't know if anyone watched the Derby, but Vlad Guerrero Jr. put on an absolute show as well. Had a crazy slug-off with Joc Pederson that took 3 tiebreakers to advance to the finals. Vlad looked a bit tired in the finals. Alonso on the other hand didn't get the best pitching from his cousin - pretty inconsistent on ball placement, but never had to actually dip into his bonus time to knock off any opponent.

The rules changes this year were very interesting. Overall it was very entertaining.

Yeah the derby was a ton of fun to watch.  I don't think it would've mattered at all due to Vlad Jr. going Death, destroyer of worlds out there but Chapman's dad was bruttttalllll.  It was cool seeing those guys go all out, the $1mm MLB put up certainly helped things.

Won four in a row.  Next 20 games against sub-.500 teams.

Beat those teams at the rate they're currently being beaten would be about 11-9 over that stretch.  Win three more games than that - one extra game every-other series - would be 14-6 and back to .500.

I'll get back to you in three weeks.....

Naw, like 2 weeks to see if they trade anyone. Wheeler was the most mentioned name but he is on IL now.

I know they'll be looking to sell. Wheeler would have been gone and might still be. They'll look to trade Frazier. Word is they'd listen to offers for Thor but the price is likely to high.

In the end, it doesn't sound like they'll part with anyone who is making a huge difference this year. I don't want them to trade Wheeler but he and Frazier are replaceable.
