  1. MR salvaged a transition year class that was rated 30th by 247 Sports. The 2015 class had 21 players in it. Anyone have a good estimation how many we can offer this year? Possible transfers would open up some spots and class size obviously has an impact on where a class is ranked,. Curious where everyone would like to see this years class ranked to be considered a success?
  2. I'm happy for him and as others have already suggested a good ending for all parties. He came here and delivered respect and class the entire time. I'm ready to move forwards and as SF has requested unite behind his program now. That said, based on the things which have come out since his departure, which SF had nothing to do with, I can't help feel MR was being undercut and put in a no win situation. Anyhow good luck Mike and thanks for bringing some decency back to our program. Had you beat Wiscy last year in OT maybe everything would have gone differently. Oh well, looks like you're happy and where you want to be now and many in Husker Nation feel the same way about where they're at now too.
  3. Key factors to O-line success not mentioned already are cohesiveness, continuity, and confidence. Unlike this season the line will need to avoid injuries to sustain continuity. If that happens then the unit can start to build cohesion. When those two boxes are checked, success and confidence start to grow and becomes noticeable to the casual observer. The final stage is when a unit develops a pride in pushing the opponent around and doing it on every play up to, and just after the whistle because it's fun and they can. Toughness, attitude, high effort, and killer instinct are not given. Some players have those traits wired into their DNA some don't. Just like some athletes have elite speed and some don't, and no amount of coaching will change that fact.
  4. That's becoming more and more apparent. The remarkable thing to me is how we can have so much media presence around this program 24-7 and not one single reporter was able to figure out what was going on and report about it. I sure hope what SF said in his press conference turns out to be true. Sounded like he was advised by TO things were not right to succeed here until the Moose hiring and the more that comes out the more that looks to be the case.
  5. The average consumer is easily manipulated by good marketing and a controlled message. College football and it's media cohorts are as good at controlling a message as anyone. In fact, wouldn't be surprised if the pentagon's propaganda department doesn't regularly consult with espn-sec for advice ; ) Lucky for us, the CFP format is pushing the SEC out of their comfort zone and we're seeing more sec teams play other P5 teams and even going out on the road to do it at times, like when LSU ventured up to camp randal last year to earn their first defeat of the season. Ole Miss is a bowl eligible SEC team this year who played at Cal and lost by two scores. Cal, is not bowl eligible and plays in a conference with 9 conference games, a conference the media has declared "weak this year". Arkansas played one P5 opponent in their OOC schedule and lost by 3 TD's. aTm same story, lost to a middle of the road 6-6 team from a "weak" conference. Florida who has probably never played an OOC P5 team on the road before, lost at home to a middle of the road BIG team. Make the SEC play 9 conference games like real conferences do. No more the late season OOC games against Mercer, La-Monroe, UAB, Chattanooga, etc....and reveal the SEC = Wizard of Oz.
  6. Would like to see them flip Oregon commit from Denver. **** OLB Adrian Jackson with offers from SC, tOSU, UF, Penn St., Wisconsin, MSU, and TCU among others. Bray recruited originally and N offered before he committed to Oregon.
  7. MR was simply not set up for success. SF all but said as much in his press conference. Lack of unity, was a reoccurring theme, and he also mentioned the pieces to succeed were not in place until now. The 7 year contract was further acknowledgement of how long Moose thinks it will take for a new coach to build this program into a conference contender. MR's gone, I'm happy for SF and will support him. That said, MR with the full support of Husker Nation and the pieces that are currently in place could have succeeded here in the near future as well. He brought in some great young talent, played a lot of youngsters including a new QB and dealt with a lot of injuries this year. Next year looked to be a big turnaround regardless, especially with Lee having a full season under his belt there's no doubt in my mind he would be a difference maker next season in the same system. Transitions are always messy. Disrupts players plans and dreams. But it's time to move forward and as SF stated UNITE behind the coaches we have now and support them fully. The constant attempts by some to disparage MR in a no win situation only fractures and delays everyone from Uniting behind Husker football.
  8. Bama only played 8 conference games and had essentially two late season bye weeks also. Oct. 28 off, played #16 LSU following week. Nov. 18th played Mercer, then faced Auburn following week. Contrast with Wisconsin who played 10 conference opponents in 10 straight weeks without a week off. Until the SEC plays 9 conference games they should be automatically scored down. To suggest Wisky played a weaker schedule due to opponents record or ranking, completely ignored the consequence of playing in a conference that plays 9 conference games instead of 8. The consequence is SEC teams can buy one more win every year via their OOC scheduling. That's important because an 8-4 team is going to be ranked higher than a 7-5 team. Until the SEC plays 9 conference games, they shouldn't get the benefit of the doubt. Agree with your post, Wisky earned a shot on the field regardless what the perception is.
  9. SF is at Nebraska now, if there are players who can help N, then that should be his only concern. Plenty of others coaches/programs will be actively attempting to flip players from a top 10 class and would be doing so regardless WT looking into another job.
  10. Whether Willey Taggart is offered the FSU job, or not, Oregon has already had one high rated decomitt due to the uncertainty. Oregon currently has a top ten class and there could be a lot more recruits on the fence. I hope SF has a plan in place to take advantage of the situation. I'd especially like to see a full court press on flipping Oregon commit 4 star OLB Adrian Jackson from Denver.
  11. For next year his chance of a quick uptick will hinge greatly upon which direction he decides to go at QB. I've stated consistently that this team with no coaching changes was likely to show a big improvement next year with a second year starter at QB who's shown a large improvement already. Also because all the young players on D would be more experienced, stronger, bigger, and have an entire off season grasp the defense. I think it's setting Frost up for failure to ignore the team will be starting over in a new offense and defense with all new coaches. I'd caution not to get caught up in expectations for next year. I'm expecting a season similar to what Herman just went through at Texas. If I start there and Frost produces better I'm happy. If I start with expecting 9 wins and it's a 5-6 win year then it's a bit disappointing. Give him time because this is it. If we don't give Frost a long leash then where does Husker football turn for the next answer?
  12. "talent is better than most people think" I have no idea what most people think so it's hard to know what he means. It appeared to me we had some upper class players who weren't playing to their potential. Coaching? Lack of buy in? Comfortable and just not motivated to push harder? Hard to say, and of course there's the possibility they were playing to their potential and we overestimated what they were capable of. There is some very good young talent on this team including those who redshirted this year. They will help next year. Some good young O-linemen, receivers, QB's, Db's and Lb/DE's. The question is, who are the difference makers? To win week in and week out in the Big will take 11 good players on field and depth behind them. To challenge for a division title we need a playmaker or two on both sides of the ball. A lightening quick DE or tackle and on the offensive side a Qb who can run for first downs when needed and/or another stud RB. I'm not convinced yet Tre is built to make it through an entire season and hope I am way wrong. Love the kid.
  13. You're happy with the tackling you're seeing? Allowing 151 yards rushing in the FIRST HALF. Passing 22 times to 12 rushes? Undisciplined mistakes, needles personal fouls in the redzone? Who are you SFs agent?
  14. Can't stop the run. Tackling that makes tackling by a Diaco defense look proficient. Lack of discipline in the redzone and where was the immediate accountability from the sideline? He stayed in the game after the penalty. 22 pass attempts to only 12 rushing attempts first half. Norvell on the other hand has ran the ball 27 times and only passed 15. I like to find positives, but SF hasn't even been named HC yet and the honeymoon is already looking to be over if the second half goes like the first.
  15. The ones I've listened to are not about what's best for Husker football. They're all about what's best for their ratings.
  16. Their win over Wisconsin was only 5 years ago. I understand your concern with the lack of success this season and you're obviously not alone. We all see the insufficient play at times and suffer the pain of losses. It's so easy out of anger and frustration to want to place blame on someone and the coaches are the easiest place to point the finger. In some cases that may even be the right place to point the finger. But it's lazy to immediately conclude it has to be coaching without knowing a lot more than the vast majority of fans know. I've given several examples similar to this season where coaches at other programs in their third year did worse. Fans of those schools were convinced the coaching was the problem. In those examples the same coaches came back and in year four things clicked, you couldn't tell it was mostly the same players and team and their seasons blasted off 9 wins or more. All I'm saying is, while it can appear so crystal clear right now, the difference between 4 wins and 9 wins can be a much smaller margin that what it appears. Sometimes you're a lot closer to success than you'd ever dare to imagine even though it can feel or seem like you're so far away.
  17. Ehh, not buying it. Cav's put several offensive linemen in the league who were low rated recruits coming into college. Either Oregon State had more talent yet vastly underrated, or Cav knows what he's doing. I watched on youtube MR's OSU team beat Wisconsin and do it by being more physical, running the ball better, and playing tougher defense. If that's the kind of "soft culture" he builds then we need more of it around here. I'm resigned to the fact this fan base is too emotionally invested in Husker football to ever allow a coach to come here and build a winner before he's run out of town during the building process. I've read on this board alone dozens of false rumors, dozens of "mark my words this will happen" only to find out later the rumors weren't true, and the things that were promised to happen by posters claiming to have inside info, didn't happen. That really leaves only one logical possibility, there are either Husker fans willing to actively attempt to undermine their own team and coaching staff during a season, or people pretending to be Husker fans who are doing it. Either way, why moderators are willing to let so many unsubstantiated claims, rumors, and false "inside scoops" go unchallenged is beyond me. I read the new board rules that were posted recently and think there's room for one more that would make this board a better place. Require anyone who wants to post alleged "inside info" , or rumors to sign their real and verified name to the post when they do it.
  18. These coaches produced 9 wins and about as close to a 10th as you can come in the OT thriller vs the division champ last year. New QB this year, a lot of freshman playing all over the field. All will be vastly improved next year. 9 wins should be the bare minimum otherwise we've gone backwards and hired a less competent coach.
  19. Manny Diaz, the DC who gave up 550 yards rushing to BYU, 257 to BYU's QB alone, looks like a freaking Defensive genius with the talent he has at Miami. Does anyone who watched Miami play tonight think we could get a first down against them or hold them under 75 points? I don't. Maybe it's the whisky, and yes I realize a lot of good coaches with good teams got their a$$es handed to them today in lopsided games so we're not alone, but we seem light years away from the type of talent Miami had all over the field tonight.
  20. I learned, if you really like a particular coach and really want to see him succeed, do NOT let him come to Nebraska.
  21. Watch the game and judge for yourself. It's on youtube and compressed into under an hour with just the plays, which is a great way to watch. I also said an MR offensive game plan. Iowa was very balanced in run pass attempts, but 5 TD's came via pass compared to 1 TD via run. Fant accounted for 4 out of 21 receptions. He looks like a fine player, but I don't think he'd have made a difference in our win loss total this year had he come to N. What would is a breakaway receiver who can take the top off a defense. A healthy Tre Bryant to go with our other backs would, and a healthy O-line would just help in general all around.
  22. There's no disputing Kelly had a great run at one school, for a short time period. He benefited from many factors beyond his control. Let me put it this way, he doesn't have half the resume Spurrier had prior to becoming HC at SC. Spurrier had won a National Championship, 6 SEC Championships, and 4 BCS bowls. Spurrier is/was a superior coach in every measurable way. More wins, more championships, better recruiter, better big game coach, better play caller, etc.... So how did that translate to South Carolina? 2005 South Carolina 7–5 5–3 T–2nd (Eastern) L Independence 2006 South Carolina 8–5 3–5 5th (Eastern) W Liberty 2007 South Carolina 6–6 3–5 T–4th (Eastern) 2008 South Carolina 7–6 4–4 T–3rd (Eastern) L Outback 2009 South Carolina 7–6 3–5 T–4th (Eastern) L PapaJohns.com 2010 South Carolina 9–5 5–3 1st (Eastern) L Chick-fil-A 22 22 2011 South Carolina 11–2 6–2 2nd (Eastern) W Capital One 8 9 2012 South Carolina 11–2 6–2 3rd (Eastern) W Outback 7 8 2013 South Carolina 11–2 6–2 2nd (Eastern) W Capital One 4 4 2014 South Carolina 7–6 3–5 T–4th (Eastern) W Independence 2015 South Carolina 2–4[note 3] 0–4[note 3] (Eastern)[note 3] South Carolina: 86–49 44–40 Maybe their greatest coach ever, but as you will notice, you don't build Rome in a day. It wasn't until his 6th or 7th year at SC when his system was fully implemented and his players were in place until they really took off. Given Kelly's record against power teams, I doubt he'd ever reach similar levels of success at Nebraska playing against BIG teams before he'd wear out his welcome. We are not a patient bunch. If we we're, we would be much better off giving MR a little more time. Go watch the Iowa game from last weekend. They beat Ohio State using MR's offensive game plan. What we truly need more than a coaching change to see a big improvement in the W-L column is a receiver or two who can take the top off the defense. A dynamic back, and a healthy O-line. I'm tired of chasing big names and hype, at some point we need to understand you have to get down in the dirt, do the dirty work, be patient, and put in the time if you want to see this program rise up again. Making another change now would just prolong that even more.
  23. Bellotti's team thoroughly dominated CU in the Fiesta Bowl for a 12-1 season. I don't think Chip ever produced a better finish. Kelly inherited a 10 win team, had the full backing of Nike's money and marketing behind him, then found a Texas street agent to help recruit for him and land the key players to his success. Everything I've read about him says he doesn't like to recruit or deal with fans, boosters, and the media. That's a formula for success in Lincoln(sarc). When he landed at Orgone his system was novel and none of the pac-ten defenses were geared to stop it. The college landscape has changed dramatically ever since, similar offenses have sprung up everywhere and defenses have changed, adapted, and are much more prepared now. Also, Stanford, the only power team in the pac-ten gave him losses. How's that going to work in a conference with multiple power teams? Also unlike his Orgone run, he's not inheriting the hottest team in the conference, his system wouldn't be taking anyone by surprise, Orgone actually recruits at a higher level according to rankings than Nebraska and if he doesn't like to recruit how's that going to change? Then there's the fact none of our QB's are Marrioda like and will all fare better in MR's system.
  24. This has to be the most entertaining 4 win team in the country. Why would anyone want that to end that sooner rather than later. That's like drinking a really great beer and yet wishing you had less of it left to drink. That's just dumb.
  25. I understood what you were saying with the Stanford reference and agree it's a very true statement in regards to a computer science degree. I wasn't questioning that. I just do not believe it is relevant to a db, the nfl, and this particular situation for several reasons. For one I'm not sure there's a football program that would be so distinctly better than all others for putting DB's in the nfl. Assuming there is, he said he's opening up his recruitment not switching to a particular school. If there is a Stanford computer science school of putting DB's in the nfl and he came across them, and that's why he's decomiting then wouldn't he go ahead and commit to that other school not "open up his recruitment"? There's an even bigger reason I don't find that a likely scenario. I've seen a list of DB's MR has put in the nfl the past 12 or so years and it's a pretty long list. I would venture to guess there's not many longer lists out there over the same time frame. So unless the kids been sold a bill of goods, which is possible, I find it hard to believe he's worried about not getting prepared for the nfl by MR.
