Colonel Sanders Defines "Socialism"

Ok, Mur'cans, listen up. I know many of you out there are a'fear'd of the term "socialism". "Ooooo, scary!", you say. Let me assure you, there is nothing to be a'fear'd of. Didn't your Momma ever tell you that, "sticks and stones may break your bones, but words should never hurt you"? I think she did.

"Socialism", it's easy. Let me illustrate with a simple example to which I'm sure you all can relate. Let's say, for e.g., you are the Dad, and as a Dad, you are frequently obligated to "bring home the bacon"....or chicken. However, in this case, let's assume everyone in the family chips in--according to their ability-- to get a bucket of KFC, biscuits, mashed 'taters, etc, mmmm, finger lickin':

--12pc. Chicken, 3 Large Sides, 6 Biscuits (Feeds 6+)

Ok then, let's say you set the bucket o' chicken, etc, on the dining room table and the 5 other members of the family gather 'round. Now, let's say, after the family prayer, you grab the bucket and take 11 pcs of the chicken, 2 of the sides, and 5 of the biscuits. This is what is known as "hoarding resources" and could be attributed to "greed".. This is what happens in what is known as "capitalism": most of the resources are hoarded by a greedy few. Well, there is an inherent problem with this: namely, the other members tend to view this situation as "unfair" and view you as a "bad person".

Now, stay with me here, under "socialism", all the chicken, sides, and biscuits would be shared more equally--like, in a normal family--according to the desire of each member and this would tend to be viewed as "more fair" and everybody's happy :). Everybody gets some chicken. Share the chicken.

It's really that simple, Companheiros. Ok, discuss amongst yourselves..... ;)

This metaphor fails in a couple of respects. First, a father has an obligation to provide for his family. And that includes sharing the ole bucket of Kentucky Fried with the kinder. A better example would be a family showing up to a school pot luck picnic with a bucket of chicken. Would it be fair to take their chicken away and give it to other families who declined to bring any food?

But really, I don't know why everyone is up in arms about the "socialism" buzzword. America is not even close to having a true capitalist economy right now. We're a mixed economy at best. We've been steadily headed toward socialism every since FDR was elected.

You must have missed the Red Scare, like for 50 yrs....

Yeah, mixed. Actually, socialistic programs in the US have been under attack and on the decline since FDR, as per the NAM(National Assoc of Manufacturers).

Extremely poor analogy, metaphor, whatever you want to call it. Misses the point almost entirely. I'll take care of my real brother......however the metaphorical brothers might be on their own. As my dad used to say "I didn't take him to raise and he's no tax deduction of mine"

Maybe you could compose a better one.

I suppose you and your dad went to private schools, right? For consistency's sake....

I'm fine with anyone who doesn't like capitalism to send me their pay checks they get from that system..... ;)

Won't have to. Guys like you will be an endangered species, sooner rather than later:

So, if it doesn't pay to work for "The Man," what hope do we have? As described by Professor Wolff, the subject and promise of WSDE is beyond compelling. With any luck, it may one day soon be taught in business school.

The working premise of the WSDE is that it can, and should, be owned by the workers and can. and should, be run democratically. Everyone -- the workers on the line, sales agents, those who clean the bathrooms or work on the loading dock -- collectively run the operation. They determine what to do, what to build, how to follow, how to lead, each other's responsibility, and what to do with profits generated. (Worker self directed enterprise)

I could compose an extremely better one but I'm not going to the effort for your sake.

I have no idea what your point about private schools is. Probably makes about as much sense as your bucket of chicken BS.

BTW, I don't deny that we are already knee deep in socialism in this country, if that's what you're getting at. Not liking it and realizing it exists are not mutually exclusive conditions.

Happy trolling.
