  1. Just because we had several Qb's in the past who would take on Lb's and Db's doesn't mean it is always the best choice. Eric Crouch will pay dearly for all the contact while he played. I have heard him several times say he played with much pain and had shoulder surg's. Look at the NFL and their Qb play. They all slide to avoid contact or run out of bounds. Rb's for the most part do the same thing. It's called living to play another series and finish the game healthy. Let the fullbacks and bigger running backs do the heavy lifting.
  2. A young man who sold out to excellence and Husker Pride. RIP Jake.
  3. Hopefully we all mellow as we get older. I hope Bo learns the people skills he will need. It would go a long way toward how people see him.
  4. If the coaches can keep the program from slipping into total disfunction this year they have 2 years of very soft schedules to enjoy. I think we beat NW, loose to Mich, then win out over MSU, Minn, PSU, and Iowa. That would give us a 9-3 record. Probably no CCG, but a bowl game. Either win that or at least play well vs a good SEC team and we have 2 years for the coaches to mature and get a handle on the problems.
  5. I've often wondered where TO's offense would be today had he continued coaching. Maybe receivers like we have now, an O line that could do a better job of pass protection, probably a QB that resembles future recruit Johnny Stanton....able to run when needed and see the field well enough to keep drives going and the other teams D on the field. Certainly our D would be more efficient in big games but I'm not sure who would be coaching the D?
  6. His formula works for him. Again there is no denying it. But you arn't looking at the big picture, you are looking at right now. Two years ago the mildcats were 6-6. Everyone on this board would have blown a gasket if NU was 6-6 in a year. They would have wanted BP fired. BS might be 6-6 next year. The reason why they are so good is Colin Klien. He is a great QB. Big, strong and was all the intangables. He is a winner Wasn't this his first year after returning from retirement? He was left a dumpster fire from the previous coach and had to rebuild the program. If I had to root for someone other than Nebraska it would be Ks St. In spite of the recruiting disadvantages inherant to Ks St, Bill S has produced a consistant winner. If we overcame our disadvantages as well as they have we would be a top 5 program.
  7. UM is responsible for OSU and not responsible if we get our feelings hurt in the process. Your running back was doing what he was taught to do....run up the middle and if it's closed then bounce outside. Our linebacker sucked inside and the D end crashed which left the right side open to the endzone.
  8. Can you give some examples?
  9. It would be difficult to fire a coach during the season. The team would be one coach short for the rest of the year unless there was a grad assistant who could take over immediately. It's not as if a coach could be hired from another team as there aren't many coaches not working who would be worth a look. To say the assistant coaches aren't giving 100% already would be a false statement. They would need the ok from Bo to burn redshirts. Till that is done they are locked in to using the players available. Santos is available and I'm not sure why he doesn't see the field if what I've heard about him is true. More speed and a simpler defensive scheme seems a logical way to go but I don't get paid the big bucks to make that call.
  10. If we hire Leach just make sure we don't let any of Craig James sons on the team. If he could find a good D coordinator I might be in favor of a Mike Leach team in Lincoln.
  11. Do his teams play defense? It appears that is the biggest problem for his team right now. Not better than Bo Do Bo's teams play defense? They occasionally have a decent day vs very weak teams. Against a good team (and OSU is a good team not a great team) we look like the St Mary's Girls School.
  12. I didn't think you could make it worse, but you just made me more sad about what's become of our football program. Congratulations, you should be a motivational speaker and live in a van down by the river. You're main issue is assuming this is a zero sum game. It is not, NU is two seasons if not one from competing for dominance. Granted our schedule gets 2 games easier next year and the year after. So instead of going 9-4 or 8-5 like this year we can be 10-2 going into the bowl game and get to play a tougher opponent. That will translate into a loss by 40 to 50 points. If we thought we were depressed during the 7 year bowl game losses by TO, get used to the upcoming smack downs.
  13. 36 points should be enough to be in contention in most games. This OSU team is not even a top 10 team. They have quite a few weaknesses. For them to hang 63 points on us is an embarrassment, both to the team and the coaches. I remember a few years ago when Kansas put 77 on the board against us and we were ready to hang the defensive coaches and most of the players. OSU scored at least 3 times on the same play when we sold out to the middle and the running back popped to the outside untouched. What in the world do our DE's key on? Pelini will tell us the players didn't execute, which is essentially saying he is not to blame. I'm sorry but this falls squarely on his shoulders. As far as them scoring with a safe lead and 38 secs left....I don't blame the running back. Piss on the coach who called the play and not to take a knee.
  14. I don't think most NCAA coaches have much input as to who is hired as a new AD. Many if not most of the big programs do keep the head coach of the cash cow sports in the loop however. If Bo found out about this hire from the radio or tv as most of us did then I don't think it says much about the relationship between Bo and HP.
  15. Has he ever been in the state of Nebraska before the interview and hire? I'm sure many of the requirements for running an athletic dept are the same from university to university. Does he understand the passion this state has for Husker athletics in general and football in particular? Has he ever been the head of an athletic dept or are we breaking in a new one again?
  16. We can only hope Beau sees things the way we do and his visit with mom goes well. Nebraska has a lot to offer a young man in his position.
  17. My post isn't intended to kidnap the thread which is talking more about Barney than the O Line itself. One thing I've noticed is the snap of the ball. Jackson cradles the ball in his hand....looks between his legs at Taylor to see when he is ready. TM gives him a signal.....a stamp of the foot or something else...Justin looks up and snaps the ball on the first count 99% of the time. Am I seeing this wrong? Doesn't the D have an advantage when they know when the snap will be made? Are we waiting for the appropriate time when we need a first down desperately to catch a DE anticipating the count? Thoughts?
  18. I remembered something else! My wife had put out a dish of 2 candies. M & M's and candy corn. The first half I ate M & M's....2nd half I changed to the CORN.
  19. OSU played 1-4 Cal a few weeks ago and Cal put up 28 points and 512 yards of offense in Columbus. Ohio State put 8 and 9 in the box to stop MSU's running but if they do that against us I think it will bite them in the butt. They may get pressure on Taylor but a few wide screens and passes to the tight ends should loosen them up. Hopefully we present more problems offensively than either Cal or MSU.
  20. I switched from my easy chair to sitting on the coffee table closer to the tv. I'm sure all these adjustments are what won the game!
  21. The biggest decision most of these young men have to make is whether they want to play football halfway across the country. Many I'm sure are pleasantly surprized by the atmosphere, the stadium and facilities, the fans and the student support academically. I'd love to see him commit here.....time will tell.
  22. He has offers from most of the Pac 12 plus Duke and Harvard. It would appear he has the intelligence to play O Line. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/925346/#highlights/8067413 This video has him playing both O Line and D line. To coin words of TO himself...."He knocked some people down". Looks like he has a good motor. He may make a better guard in D1.
  23. It seemed like Whisky went away from a lot of things in the second half. I think part of it was our front seven was getting more pressure. Possibly some immaturity from their Qb. I would take those two players you mentioned in a heartbeat. Every team needs a couple of balls to the wall players.
