1. Great point, and damn what a great play. Broke three tackles if I remember right. Would not be denied. I never had a doubt in my mind, this guy gets it, I knew he'd be back. That play gets lost in the Hail Mary for sure. We have been blessed as fans under Bo for the quality of backs we have had. Helu, Rex and AA. All class acts and solid character. Great job to the staff for their development and recruitment.
2. I really, really. really hope the staff manages his carries next year. We will have Cross, Newby and Taylor. Let them carry the load until conference play. Get him carries early, but pull him. Let him rest and not carry s friggin much. Just my .02. He can still get 1000 yrds, Hypesman talk and records without carrying 300+ times. His draft stock will improve with less fumbles and less carries. The life expectancy of RB's is low to begin with, let alone a guy who gas carried/will carry as much as AA has.
3. ... I don't know what the issue was with his leaving, but it sounded serious enough that I find it hard to believe he's coming back. Interesting. What changed? He didn't get sent packing for nothing. I have no idea if things have changed. Wishful thinking on my part. Carl wasn't such a great example in light of recent news! Ref USC 102-53rd in pass D. 19 INT's vs 9 previous year. Guy can coach. Have to look no closer to 2003, 2009-2010 at NU as well. I hope we get a guy named sooner than later as signing day gets closer and closer.
4. If it wasn't criminal, if the CC issues are true and restitution has been met, then give the guy another chance. Keep him on a tight leash. If it was "so horrible" IMO, he would have been criminally charged, no way nothing avoids the internet, he wouldn't have been hired by Carl, then USC and now a HS with the keys to the castle. You can't even find anything on the web except for his info relating to resigning. Give the guy a chance. If he gets cleared to be here, good enough for me.
5. I think that came from some of the players when they were discussing Raymond's first year here. I think they were also more aggressive under Sanders. IIRC it was Fonzie commenting on the difference. Raymond was more technique and Sanders was more physical. Seemed a lot of concern at the start and IMO warranted. Our DB's in 2011 did not play near as aggressive as previous seasons. Here is a link http://journalstar.c...88e05b.html Sanders also believed that the only was to catch a pass was to be open. By jamming at the line, laying them out or pushing them out of bounds, Sanders taught the DB's to not allow the receivers to be in a position to catch the ball. Pressing at the LOS seemed to really be his strength. 2009 and 2010 we were # 1 and #3 in pass D efficiency. Not bad considering the O's we faced. And in 2003 our secondary laid waste to the INT record books. Just sayin
6. Coop has really stepped it up. Imagine him with 3 years of Sanders tutalage. Imagine SJB and Evans. Beast mode x2. Personal issues, rumors etc aside, Sanders can flat out coach DB's. Hell our ST coach does a pitiful job in that department and is still coaching there. Who really cares if Sanders is not a "stellar" recruiter. I am sure after being a HS coach in LA he has made some good in roads. HIre a phenomenal recruiter coordinator and let this (recruiting) staff go to work. I would also like to see what percentage of kids we get that other top tier programs want. Sanders has the ability, IMO, to develop the diamonds in the rough and have them excel. Any DB recruit who follows football knows the kids that are in the show that learned from Sanders. Just saying.
7. RUMOR ALERT. Another sight reporting former NU coach is back in the fold. No names mentioned...............
8. I hope, if it is a "proven" guy it is Sanders. Our pass D was incredible during his tenure. It also helped have NFL talent across the board. I liked his physical style of DB play. It really helps our pass D when WR's and TE's are knocked off their routes, onto the ground or out of bounds. I remember Raymond saying "that type of play" won't work in the B1G as it will draw flags. I then watched our first year in as our DB's got knocked around. After a few years in the B1G, I have also come to realize that the refs don't have flags. If they do, they are used sparingly as if only so many are allowed per game...........
9. I missed something. What happened? SARCASM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10. One thing that NU has an abundance of is guys who, IMO, are qualified to coach our DB's. Many in coaching today and others had extremely successful stints in the NFL. Brown Minter Bullocks etc......
11. Haha good point...maybe would be the biggest considering how we lost that game. That phantom block in the back call and the no-call of the goal-line fumble still chaps my ass. Now that I think about it, in today's era they announce the number of the player who committed the penalty. They didn't do it back in 1993. I would've loved to know who they dreamed up to call the number on that penalty. You and me both. That block is and was complete BS. I can still remember the excitement and then the "you've got to be kidding me" when the penalty was called. Still hate FSU for that game. It pains me to cheer for them tomorrow night. If not for them playing the SEC, I wouldn't.
12. Cleveland ownership proves just because your rich , still allows you to be stupid and dysfunctional Jerry Jones says he represents that comment!
13. Sums up my feelings completely. I hate the SEC and their fans, their short term memories and that ridiculous SEC-SEC chant they do. Don't get me started on the over signing, the SCam Newton and all the other crap that goes on and is allowed. Go Noles! I hope they hang 100 on Auburn.
14. FSU is the last Florida team we need to beat to avenge the 90's.
15. That was might first name I thought of. Has all the credentials as a college player and pro. Got to watch him at NU and his career as a Panther solid on and off the field. Has some (limited) coaching experience, but was the QB of the D his time in the pro's. Great "get" IMO.
16. Chad Morris and Venerables at Clemson say hello. Granted they are OC/DC but they are making like 2.3 million between the 2. Strong getting 5 mill/year as the HC at Texas etc.... Assistants money is having to grow to get/keep them. I just don't think NU is ready to let that money go.
17. Agree with the above as it speaks to QB play. I remember a quote from TO back in the day in which the system then was predicated on the best athlete being the QB. QB "talent" aside, it is hard to argue the like of Gill, Tommie, Crouch, Frost, Lord etc not being one of the most athletic guys on the field. We really miss that. I still think had Crawford came, Frank's story would have been much different. Also agree with the above that we need to find an identity and recruit for that. We need to recruit to what we have, not try and plug guys in and create a "new system". This is where, IMO, we seem to miss. It seems like we have certain plays for certain guys. This year with QB and not as drastic in our RB play. Cross is no outside runner. Yet we try to use him in the same style as AA. My other question, to use Martinez as an example is about Beck. Martinez is very good. I really think this year would have been different with him 100%, but I still don't think he would ever have gotten a conference championship. Same with Beck. He is good (at times), but I do not feel he is good enough to get us where we want to be. I think he is a lesser problem as stated above ie we suck at the basics, but if we fix those we still have the Jeckyll and Hyde O, the head scratching plays and other issues. Fix the basics first and then adjust the O. If it means a new OC, I am fine with that.
18. Kid was a baller and tough as nails. I really think this year could have been special had he been healthy. He took it upon himself to work in the off season and spring break to improve while most guys were taking the weeks off. Hats off and thanks. I hope he is getting ready for the combine and goes into it with an open mind and is willing to try out with other position groups.
19. Not a fan of Beck, but he is a lesser issue of our O. Regardless of his "multiple" approach, we lack (hate to say it) execution. We still continually beat our selves with dropped balls, fumbles and penalties. Even if we called the most simplistic O, we still have these issues. Until we fix these issues, we will never get to where we want to be. We beat UGA because we actually played a very sound (by our recent standards) game. As mentioned above, we don't turn it over against Sparty we win that game. You can't get to the next level (regardless of O) when we are in the negative for TO's. The teams that are winning (past week) are teams that won the TO battle and played sound fundamental ball on both sides. The game against UGA was probably the most "complete" game I have seen from the Huskers in several years. The defensive miscues were caused by the "picks" IMO. UGA used them repeatedly and drew no flags. Clemson did one and got called. We tackled, set the edge, didn't over pursue and looked good. TA still needs work. A lot. I hope that he gets a QB coach this off season instead of waiting like Martinez did. Perhaps the staff's relationship with Calhoun will pay off. I like his attitude and swagger as well as his physicality. A solid off season as the "man" will only improve his abilities IMO. I do not think he really got a lot of attention last year (from the staff) until Martinez went down and then it was more getting ready for the next game instead of teaching and getting him to learn/improve. We are close, real close. Just need to fix ourselves and the "system" should work.
20. I just hope it doesn't turn into some BS like when Marrow went to KY. Just go and don't speak to NU recruits again. Hope Bo has something in place to remedy this.
21. Mods if this needs to be moved to rumors feel free. People reporting that Joseph is going/talking with A&M about going their as DB coach. Hmm............ http://www.cornnatio...ng-to-texas-a-m Article speculates instability playing a part. Also says that perhaps Bo and Co do a counter. Maybe allow him to be DB and recruiting coordinator and allow Els to concentrate in LB's and ST? Pay raise? One on the staff I do not want to see leave.......... If true, thoughts to replace him? Former Husker? Now that TO is gone, bring Sanders back? (I know that ship has sailed)
22. Huh? The sideline penalty opposite the play, the late hit out of bounds by OSU and the penalty doesn't result in a first down.........Clemson played the refs and OSU. The announcers reminded me of the NU vs UGA game, a complete OSU love fest. Glad to see Clemson get the win. (no loss of IQ points per Knapps rule of family!)
