  1. Don't forget an overtime win along with that hail mary, and a crappy performance vs Wyoming....easily 6-6 without breaks....some people are still under the assumption that Nebraska can just show up with the N on their helmets and it automatically makes us the better team. Hell, KSU has a 2 qb system with Sams running the ball and Waters throwing it. Lockett is an absolute stud at WR and returning.... wouldn't be surprised to see KSU open up as a favorite.....and some believe we are "above" that match up ???? Exactly. Folks be trippin.
  2. Other than a great traveling fan base, we have lost our last 3 bowl games, gotten embarrassed in prime time and are really not relevant in any circle save our own, not ranked and are 8-4............ Not exactly a hot bowl commodity.
  3. Doesn't matter which offense you run if you have the fumbles and INTs that Tommy did this season. Nope it certainly doesn't. Glad he's just a freshman and has time to get better. If he was a Junior or Senior still making the same stupid mistakes, then I would be concerned. No way a kid who continued to have those issues 3-4 years in the system would still be starting..........................
  4. I think on D we are looking bright the next few years. Continue to recruit to plug holes ie safety in 2015 so that we start to develop depth. 2014-2015 can be very special on D IMO. Offensively, we need to find an identity. I like a smash mouth with play action pass. We try to be to multiple IMO. This multiplicity bites us in the a$$ every season ie Beck goes all pocket QB, Beck fails to recognize that misdirection is acceptable etc.... We truly do nothing well on O. We are average in execution in most phases. Get great at some scheme and run it into the ground. I think this also allows us to better recruit players who are the best fit for this "narrow" scheme instead if guys who are ok in "multiple schemes. ie instead of a road grader OL with decent pass pro, we get a line full of OL who have decent pass pro, decent foot speed, decent run block etc....... Just like our current system, we recruit "jacks of all trades, master of none"..........
  5. Sadly, with how we have played all year ie fumbles, interceptions, injuries, etc and the inability to play a complete 4 quarters in any game we are capable of being beat by many who are bowl eligible. Until the fans and players realize that no one fears us and this isn't NU of the 90's, the sooner we can start playing to get that way. It seems like many, including this team, think we can show up and win. In 1995, we could have brought our 3rd teamers and scout team and won at least 9 games..... Those days are long gone. These guys need to go into every game earnig respect and the victory. I say play who ever, LSU, UGA, Okie Lt who cares. NO games are gimmees. Let's go big or go home. Folks saying we walk KSU haven't watched us play this year. Remember those push overs in Minnie and Iowa...........
  6. Agreed. Multiplicity from formations, but not in plays. TO ran a few (limited) plays incredibly well, almost to perfection from multiple formations and motions. Sadly, year 3 with beck and I (IMO him) still have no idea what we want to be. We are multiple in that we make multiple mistakes with too many plays in the book.
  7. The crazy thing, an O with a pulse in 2009 and he/we would have one. No doubt in my mind. Our D is young and appears to have the potential to be very good and very nasty the next 2-3 years. These next few years, we get a decent O and we have a shot. As noted above, depends on QB play and development of receivers and TE IMO as far as other skill positions. We have Bell and Turner, Westy and Burtch next year, but in 2015 unsure who we have other than Westy as a high level recruit. Unsure what year Allen is. So yes, the potential is there. I am also anxious to see how the playoffs actually work. Will there be SEC bias? Major conferences? This also might play into who really has an actual chance to play for the MNC.
  8. Talking about their O and said it was the same Gus ran in HS. The Delaware wing T IIRC. It is reminiscent of our O in the glory days. Pulling, punishing OL with play action passing to keep the D from crowding the box. This O would be perfect in the unpredictable weather of the B1G. Run it down their throat. Here is an interesting web site dedicated to the wing T http://www.bucksweep.com/
  9. Yep. I wish that Beck could figure that out. An attacking down hill D can be exploited by play action, trap, delay, miss direction etc........
  10. I read this thread and can't believe people are expecting us to get beat by everyone we might play. Talk about accepting mediocrity. Damn. Blame Bo all you (we) want for this mediocrity, but the fans sure as hell seemed to have accepted it and in some cases don't seem to mind. Embarrassing and sad.................
  11. Who ever starts, he will be fumble, INT prone. Take all that away and go with the guy who has more upside than the other 2. A hobbled Martinez would be a no go as would a hobbled TA. I would ASSume that a healthy RKIII gets the start. I still think Martinez is a few months away from being 100%. TA who knows. IMO, get Martinez some playing time so he can have a bowl win. Then rest him. Let him get ready for the combine.
  12. Would love to win a bowl, BUT to get better it means playing better teams........... UT is down this year. We are as well. I hate UT, would love to beat them down.
  13. 10k is a small amount to pay to let the officials know it was a chicken crap call and bogus as he##. I am only sorry it cost us a penalty prior to the fine. The officiating thus far has been pretty poor IMO.
  14. IMO that was based on potential not really on his results. <img class="UMSRatingIcon" id="ums_img_tooltip" />
  15. I've heard this before, but I have a hard time tracking it myself. The angry Bo didn't exactly light a fire under the team during the A&M game. He was Angry Bo before that game and he's been Angry Bo after that game. And he was even Angrier Bo this season, not surprisingly in games that we lost, cluminating in an old school meltdown against Iowa. So how does Angry Bo translate into a fired-up team? I think it's the opposite corrolary: this team is afraid to disappoint Bo in big games. So they go out and play afraid. He did work on his public persona after A&M, but he really needed to. I can't really track a turning point in Bo's tenure when the six four-loss seasons start blending together. I guess I just saw hope in 2009 and 2010. Even with the losses, we were :01 and 3 points from conference championships. Maybe angry could be used for "passionate" Bo. I can't figure this team out. Last season in the "win out" challenge, the kids rose up and did just that. This year, in some "bigger" games ie MSU and even Iowa, they seemed to play tight and crap themselves. Do we actually have a shrink on board for the team?
  16. Not a Bo apologist. No one was screaming for him to be gone in 2008-2010. Had :01 not been added to the clock we would have our BCS bowl and conference championship. Things would be different. I liked/ currently like angry Bo. When the A&M incident aired nationally for days, the Bo that came back after that was not the same Bo. No fire and the guys played like it. The kids who play for Bo wanting him is better than any one else's opinion. They play for the man day in and day out and spend more time with Bo and Co than they do with their family and friends.......They should know. It is not like you have kids coming out against Bo ie like Leach and Mangino (SP?) The kids love him. Even former guys who played under him have expressed their liking him. Again, this speaks a lot to me. The single biggest factor, IMHO, that could change is practice. Purely speculation, but it would appear that we do not go enough good on good. Martinez tears up the 2nd team D and all is good. Get into conference play and the staff is like "why the hell are we making these mistakes?" It could be that the D by "X" is better than our 2nd/3rd teamers and scout team. Same with the fumbles. Not getting laid out in practice, IMO, contributes to an increase in TO's. Injuries might increase, but I didn't see starters out in the hey day going good on good. Like Peter said, practice was a brawl. Saturdays were much easier. Then work on S&C. Even if it doesn't lead to injuries, we appear less dominant than other teams at the point of attack and incapable of going the distance without getting tired...
  17. IMO, Bo is a lot like a new pastor at church. For those who have experienced a new pastor, EVERYONE wants a piece of the guy and his family. Everywhere he goes, in church and in town, it is always about people wanting a piece of him. Folks are human. Sometimes they want their space and too not be bothered in public. We pay them and think we should have "more" access to them and this often paints a perceived (right or wrong) about how they should respond to us. I have met some folks that were very gracious and approachable. Some not so much. Disappointing to say the least. Perhaps Bo is a surly type guy who is genuinely not an openly friendly guy. Do I wish he was? Absolutely. Do I think he should REALLY try to engage the fans? Absolutely. Life for a coach, actor, insert profession here, is always better for those involved if the attraction of our attention reciprocates the "love" for lack of a better word. The team gets it, I get it (how much they like Bo), BUT I wish that he would get it. More access to the team. Publish stuff like Husker Power used to. Be more open with the press about injuries. Be more tactful when the press "pi$$es" you off etc..... These things would go a long way in helping smooth things over.
  18. I think the Regents and the Suits realize they need to make a splash hire this time. I have no doubt they had 5 to 7 names to contact through channels. If none of those 7 had interest, they weren't going to go to the 2nd tier of coaches when we already have one with faults. Better to sit tight and see if the situation changes next year. It's not like we were 4-8 this year or that the coaches didn't do some good things with the young defense and injuries to the good O we were expecting. If recruiting goes well again and it's off to a good start, it could be the jump start we need to crawl back to the top. I know we've been saying "next year" for awhile. It hurts me to not see NU relevant on a big stage but I know not all programs jump back to the top immediately with coaching change. That said I'll support Bo with his warts as long as he is here. He is the coach of the team I love and he'll do better with me supporting him than if I try to tear him down. For all Bo's faults, I can see why the players love him. He has their back and they have his. He's like a momma bear when something disturbs her cubs. Better get out of his way cuz the fur will fly. His three biggest blowups were: 1. The tapegate thing where he was chapped at fans cussing his players and leaving the stadium. I don't think his rant was toward the whole state, just the couple hundred who verbally abused his players. 2. The ref who he felt made a bad call that kept the drive going for Iowa. Did Bo over react? Of course. But his players see it as defending them. 3. Calling out reporters who have continually made an issue of whether the staff will be around next year. Are they just doing a reporters job? Probably yes. Have some of them been a horses a$$ with the way some of the questions are asked? Absolutely in my opinion! Very well some truth to this. SP tried and failed with Cally. Possibly competing with UT/USC/UF for a "splash" hire, the fact of paying out almost $8 million and the perception of firing a 9 win coach (we win the bowl) probably factored HUGE in their minds. They almost might be smarter than us and realize with a little time and patience (and luck) Bo might actually be able to get the wins we want. 2009 and 2010 were pretty close to winning the conference.......3 points and a BS :01
  19. Odd that the folks that know him, play for and will play for Bo thinks he is a good guy and the right man for the job. What do they know
  20. This is on the recruit thread, but thought it needed its own on the main page. The #1 Juco DT committed to NU after the Iowa game. Said he liked that Bo has his teams back and takes no BS. Rest of article here. http://sports.omaha.com/2013/12/01/recruiting-top-juco-dt-terrell-clinkscales-commits-to-nebraska/#.UpvYKChU5So
  21. I think we would have been MUCH better. A 100% healthy Martinez, I only see a loss to UCLA as the D collapsed. Looking at his stats from 20100-present was showing a serious improvement from year to year. A "weaker" schedule than last year lined up for us to be very good this year. I would put a healthy Martinez up against the money badger and the Mariota from Oregon. I also think that those two teams you mentioned have two things we are missing, TE play and (don't hate me) receivers who can catch......everything. Not just the routine, but the circus catches as well. Money badgers rating now for the season is 170. Martinez's highest 140.......Money has a 69.1% completion rating. His receivers are catching stuff. Martinez, TA and RKIII have all been hurt by the drops. Mariota has a season rating of 168.......63.1% So yea, they would be as successful as a healthy Martinez would have been. We just miss "that" guy on O who can take over a game and by sheer will get the team to win. AA, IMHO, is the closest we have. He is a baller. Unfortunately, the staff rode him to long and to hard without spelling him when possible. Burned Newby's shirt for no reason IMO. Should have spread some of his carries throughout the other 2 guys. A healthy AA, could be that guy. Historically, SUH, David were those guys. Rex as well. Guys have the ability. It just needs to meet performance level required.
  22. Ohio State beat Wisconsin Wisconsin beat Minnesota Minnesota beat Nebraska Therefore Ohio State would beat Nebraska See why transitive property sucks for college football? Hence the If we could find a way.....potential to be.........
  23. Need to hope for an A&M win tonight, then SC beats Auburn in the SEC game. No way Auburn jumps then. Mizzou wins and Auburn beats them in the SEC, bias kicks in and the SEC jumps OSU. The media is already trying to find a way to get an SEC team in. With a Mizzou win tonight and next week, I wouldn't be surprised if they jumped OSU in the BCS.
  24. Good for Bo. The drama is over, manufactured or not. Time to move on and support this team. For the record, I like angry Bo. I always have. I still think 2010 really hurt his psyche and motivation. Hope what ever transpired (es) with Bo, SE and HP results in a clear understanding of expectations. I also hope Bo realizes (IMO) the gift he was given to not be fired and really does some searching in how to get our guys to be fundamentally sound as well as a way to actually meet the desires of the program. This alone gets us 2 more wins. For the record, Dabo just yelling at the refs for a BS call. Not as animated, but angry.
