1. BS call. Put em in skirts and pay them $200 per game. These guys chose to play the game. No one is forcing them. Complete BS.
2. Save for some bone headed play calling last year ie going all air raid when the running game was working we were winning that game. We were doing it with a less experienced O, S-L-O-W defense, non-existent DE rush, LB's who knew the system , but were ill equipped to respond as well as no game film. I like our chances all things being equal. Play press coverage to force them off routes, don't bite on the motion, disguise our coverage and let the D use the speed. I think that they will be more surprised by our D than we will be with their O. More kool aid plz.
3. I hope that we play bump and run at the line and disrupt them from the jump. Get them off their routes and mess up their quick routes.
4. We have two shutdown (almost) CB's in SJB and Evans, BUT no one can cover for 4-5 seconds as Hunley scrambles and makes the throws. The key will be to watch the motion, screens and get in his face and do not allow him to scramble freely and square up to throw. I would hit him every play. I mean every play. its a run he gets hit, scrambles gets hit. Just like UCLA played Martinez last year. We Martinez was stuffed for the safety, I remember UCLA had game planned to hit him whether he had the ball or not. It eventually paid off for them.
5. UCLA will be our first test. (At the end of the season, Wyoming might show to have been a test and then some). We have the athletes to run with them unlike last year. To date, I have seen us out of position on some plays, but athleticism allowed us to recover. ie A 60 yrd run goes for 8. Bo has impressed me after Wyoming in starting Bando at LB. He has shown he understands the need to get the speed on the field. I expect the same against UCLA. I hope (although I have been disappointed as many times as I have been pleased) expect Bo to break out something new against UCLA ala the "spinner" or MSU stand up DL. If Wyoming schemed for us all off season, I would ASSume we schemed for UCLA all off season. I really think Bo believes this game will be the litmus test for the season (I would agree). Looking at the schedule, I would again (prior to Wyoming) think UCLA might be our toughest test. The whole "revenge factor", first big televised game, so many freshman etc... We have the horses now we just need to let them run.
6. As much as I like the idea of playing on emotion, for revenge etc we do not seem to do well this way. My hope is the team plays a focused, mistake free four quarters. Talent wise and experience wise it appears to be pretty evenly matched with youth on both sides. IMO, it will come down to coaching. Who makes better calls and which coach can adjust on the fly. Being at home is a plus. We just need to actually put a complete 4 quarters together. Something a Bo coached team has yet to do.
7. I'll have some of that. Prior to Wy I really thought we'd have them easy. Then our D showed up. Feel better after Sat, but still not a real test. I would love to believe what I did the past few years that the staff was holding back and I'd see the beast unleashed the next week. Sadly next week never came and I realized as Jeckyl and Hyde as we were was the best we could be. There was nothing else to see as we were showing all we had. Good, bad and ugly. I will be shocked if we have something new for UCLA. I have been surprised by the "spinner" against Mizzou and the stand up Dline against MSU. Would love to see it, but am not getting my hopes up. Just want the win
8. He decided it looked as dumb as catchers with tape or nail polish! Notice that as well. Perhaps they figured a more effective way to signal that would allow all the D to see.
9. Tragic event. The loss of a child is a horrible thing. Prayers to his family and the UCLA guys. Agree we should do something, moment of silence, prayer prior etc.........
10. Would love to see the look on the UCLA staff when they motion their RB and our backers stay home. I know folks said that Wyoming prepared all spring and fall for us. Hopefully we did the same for UCLA. The key will be our guys reaction to the motion.
11. Agree with the DB's. Last year, Joseph had them playing physical. I really do not think we are hiding much. The past few years, I would watch us and say "Bo has got to be holding back". Then I realized that was the best we could do. I think that until we can really field punts, our limited rush probably has more to do with "covering the fumble" than actually setting a return.
12. Really enjoyed seeing the depth finally getting developed. I think it goes back to DB saying last week that Bo needs to get guys on film to see who "gets the scheme" and who doesn't and see why break downs are occurring. Like you, I can't remember Bo really ever playing back ups this soon in a contest and for this long. Goes a long way to making kids realize that they are all accountable for the product on the field and that a guy goes down, you might be needed. Shows some maturity from Bo, not really seen before.
13. Thx for the link, the BTN in NC carried the friggin Navy vs IN game. Tried BTN2GO, but it didn't work. Link above did. Thanks again!
14. King did look good. Suprised to not see more Imani. Newby runs pi$$ed. I like his style. AA seems to have improved his top end. 2 games, 2 100 yrd outings.
15. That the BTN 2Go sucked. (thx for the link to get the video) Bando can ball. Gerry is a good one. Zaire a huge upgrade. SJB is a beast. Newby appears to be the real deal. Armstrong runs the O like NU QB's of old. Beat a team solidly that we should have. Loved DB (maybe Crouch) describing Martinez as a "crease QB". Great definition. Defense seemed to play with some swagger. We can actually make/create TO's. Still have a ways to go. Next week will tell the truth.
16. Try this if you're unsure which game will air in what area. BTN2GO won't load. I checked the link (thx). It shows the NW game in my area, but I have 2 BTN channels. As the IU game is only being shown in Indiana and KY, I am hoping that NU will be the reverse game on the 2nd channel.........
17. I have it on TWC. 2 Channels with one dedicated to the NW game. The other says regional either the NU game or Navy vs Indiana. Won't know until 6pm EST.
18. Agree with Tempo. Last week, we did not even resemble an offense that had the ability to go uptempo. That's what really stunk. I figured if our D was serviceable (top 50 against the run) our O would be able to hang enough points on anyone to win the game. After last week, the O was Jekyll and Hyde again. I really wish we would excel at what we do great and scrap the rest. Year 3 with the same staff and skill guys, we should easily know what we can do well and what stinks.
19. In the Big Red Breakfast, Beck said the O wanted to go faster to create chaos. This week, practice looked like a Biker Bar per Beck. Unsure what that means, but it sounds better than "we just need to execute"!
20. GBR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
21. I saw another board an interesting take from Benning ref Wyoming. To paraphrase, he said that after watching the game and presser he thinks things are "fixable". Bo called a VERY plain and generic D with little complexity. Benning surmises it was done in order to put some things on film in order to see who "got" certain schemes, alignments and calls and who didn't. Put the guys in a position and have them "figure" things out themselves. This will allow Bo to move forward with the guys who "got" it and fix the issues that were observed as it relates to wrong call, communication, alignment etc.... Said we have the speed and athleticism and sees a simplifying of the D moving forward and scrapping the 2 gap, allowing guys to go hat on hat. Also said the D we see in a few weeks will not be remote to what we saw against Wyoming. Again, this was paraphrased and I did not listen to the show. Makes sense if true. BUT, I have heard a lot of the stuff before and am leery.
22. Yep. being called out by guys who excelled at both levels is pretty sad. Glad to know that a lot of folks on the board observed the same things and are calling for a simplified D that allows athleticism to reign. Now if Bo would just listen that his scheme sux and as Knapp has posted numerous times quit playing "patty cake" on the D line.
23. I imagine this saga ending in the whole team staying late after practice. Leadership by example. It's gotta start somewhere. Peer pressure is a huge motivator ie Mitchell calling out VV on Twitter, Imani staying late and now AA. Players not speaking PC after the game. Some of the guys appear pi$$ed how Sat went down. This is much better than anything the staff could do to get them more focused and ready.
24. Do you line up LBs on WRs then when they go five wide???? No. You can play nickel and use man-man coverage though. Then you have 2 LB's on the field. Surprised we didn't see that type of formation. You'll never see Bo play without at least one high safety. That is what he announcers said Wyoming was keying in on. Depending on 1 or 2 safeties deep, they knew which plays to run. Seems if Bo is committed to this, can't he disguise our coverages better?
