  1. GaTech's QB was clutch ... until he wasn't.
  2. Anyone want to change their vote? 45 Rushes, 34 Passes - 57% Rushing However, the 4th quarter (when we had the game in hand) was 17-2 rushing meaning the first three quarters were 28 rushes vs. 32 passes. Obviously not having Rex probably mad a difference but 50/50 wouldn't be a bad place to be.
  3. Southern Miss had plenty of miss opportunities. The screen pass that could have gone for a td if it wasnt dropped and their wr's dropped quite a few balls as well. And we missed a lot of opportunities. Almost had a pick that could have been returned for six. A couple more sacks could have stopped drives earlier and maybe we only give up 175 yds. Ifs and buts...
  4. Huskers sweep their way to a sweep. Huskers 3, Colgate 0 Hanna Werth leads with 15 kills and 12 digs Allison McNeal adds 10 kills Huskers 3, UC-Irvine 0 Morgan Broekhuis leads with 16 kills Werth posts another double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs Huskers rolling along. Big week coming up with games Thrusday (Oklahoma), Friday (Duquesne), and Saturday (Kentucky) at the Coliseum for the Ameritas Players Challenge.
  5. To even get invited to New York, you have to have outstanding stats and be on a great team. RGIII's win last year came from one of the "worst" teams for a Heisman winner in quite awhile: Top three in recent years with final ranking and team losses: 2011 - RGIII (#12, 3 losses), Luck (#4, 1 loss), Richardson (#2, 1 loss) 2010 - Newton (#1, 0 losses), Luck (#4, 1 loss), James (#2, 0 losses) 2009 - Ingram (#1, 0 losses), Gerhart (#21, 4 losses), McCoy (#2, 0 losses) 2008 - Bradford (#1, 1 loss), McCoy (#3, 1 loss), Tebow (#2, 1 loss) 2007 - Tebow (#12, 3 losses), McFadden (#25, 4 losses), Brennan (#10, 0 losses) 2006 - Smith (#1, 0 losses), McFadden (#12, 3 losses), Quinn (#11, 2 losses) 2005 - Bush (#1, 0 losses), Young (#2, 0 losses), Leinart (#1, 0 losses) 2004 - Leinart (#1, 0 losses), Peterson (#2, 0 losses), White (#2, 0 losses) 2003 - White (#3, 2 losses), L. Fitzgerald (#26, 4 losses), E. Manning (#17, 3 losses) 2002 - Palmer (#5, 2 losses), B. Banks (#3, 1 loss), L. Johnson (#10, 3 losses) So in the last 10 years, only two guys have won it with more than two losses (RGIII and Tebow); everyone else was ranked in the Top 5. And only six others made the top 3 with more than 2 losses. You have to be on a top team or have unbelievable stats to be in contention.
  6. So Miss 2nd Half Stats: Rushing: 25 carries, 93 yards, 3.7 ypc Passing: 1 completion, 8 attempts, 15 yards Total yards: 108 Source: Huskers.com Game Stats
  7. Four TDs including a 76 yd TD run. I like it!
  8. Hey Beau - 9 catches for 103 yards and 2 TDs for our TEs and two of them are gone after this year. You'll fit right in.
  9. 2 for 2 on Troll posts. Keep up the bad work.
  10. Sounds like broken collar bone so it shouldn't be all year but probably a couple months.
  11. Per Josh Banderas via 247, it's between us, Wisky and Pitt.
  12. Even Lee Barfknecht moved the Huskers to #1. I didn't think I'd live to see the day.
  13. Who needs doctors when you have the internet?
  14. Interesting info. I didn't realize our losses were quite that "good".
  15. I'm hoping at "worst" we suit him up but only play him if needed. Resting for a couple weeks would be a much better option, IMO.
  16. Pretty impressive by both Martinez and Turner:
  17. What did Bo have to say about our defense yesterday? I was going to post in the "What did we learn" thread that I watched the show and learned ... nothing. Basic coach-speak all the way around. He said several times that we had a lot of things that we needed to improve upon and we're no where near where we need to be. Nothing specific.
  18. I doubt Michigan drops below us - especially from the guy who voted them #1. Oops. Probably one spot at best.
  19. Good point. We used to be one of only three or four major programs running our style of offense and we were obviously having the most success with it. After switching to the WCO, we were competing against almost everyone for the same athletes.
  20. I must have been starving for Husker football. Watched the game live yesterday, watched it on DVR this afternoon, now switching between the replay on BTN and the Bo Pelini show ...
  21. Are we recruiting receivers from Alabama to join our RB from there?
  22. I was thinking the same thing when I first looked at their box score but now I'm not sure how mobile he is. Obviously you have to be decent to score on a 72 yard run but Rice did about everything as wrong as they could - they gave up three 70+ yard runs. After that, he had six other rushing attempts for minus-four yards. I'm sure there were at least a couple sacks in there but that part doesn't exactly look scary. Of course, if you can hand it to a guy going for 200+, you don't need your QB to do too much.
  23. I wonder if JP knows about this I'm usually not a big fan of lots of blitzing but if a team isn't going to make you play honest, take advantage of it.
  24. I think our main problem is the tendency toward a "bend but don't break" philosophy. We like to keep two safeties deep - although they do come up hard when they read run. I think a better thing to try first - without a wholesale change in personnel - is simply to play one safety deep and bring the other - Stafford - up closer, thinking run first. Play Cover 1 (one safety playing center field) until they prove they can beat you over the top a couple times. Our biggest problem, IMHO, is that we get too spread out against the spread. Cover two over the top with at least three CBs on the field and only one LB in the box. Five lineman to block five defenders with two running options is a numbers game we're bound to lose. Keep the regular down four plus two LBs so you have six in the box. Assuming there are at least three WRs, three corners play man-to-man with Cover 1 over the top. You'd have to play with the alignment of your 11th defender (Stafford) and one LB depending on who their 11th player is - second RB, TE or WR. A second RB or TE makes it pretty easy to bring more defenders closer to the box. A fourth WR is tougher but you've got to give somewhere. One way or another, Stafford would be lined up just outside the box - ready to attack the zone read but probably having to pick up some pass coverage on a straight drop-back.
