  1. Unless the O line learns to block about a thousand times better and the D line learns to tackle about a thousand times better, it is going to be the same old song, different verse, 9-4!
  2. Depends on which game but I would not buy a ticket until game day at the stadium. We now have season tickets, but until now, I always went to the game and bought tickets and never paid more than face value. Just fly here on Thursday of Friday and then hang around some of the tail gaters or walk around the stadium. Anywhere from "O" street to trhe stadium will get you a ticket.
  3. Three posts and not a mention of a name. Like who are these "big names?" Clue us in!
  4. Yes, he does need to be on the field. I never did buy into the coaches claim that he needs to be more intesne in practice. He is one of the best, if not the best, athelete on the team. You play with your best and live with a few mistakes, especially on offense. So what if he is not perfect? He is fast, he is elusive and he can catch the ball. NU does not have too many receivers who can do those three things. Sometimes I think college coaches over coach kids. Get them on the field and let them play.
  5. So long to Corey Raymond. Now, maybe we will get a DB coach that can actually coach with a little enthusiasm. No more end of the half "hail Mary" passes for a TD.
  6. A red flag always goes up with some one says, "Got this from a friend of mine!"
  7. Fabian Washington, Ralph Brown, Mike Brown, Daniel Bullocks, Josh Bullocks, DeJuan Groce, Mike Minter, Tyrone Williams. Did any of these guys graduate from Cardnial Mooney High School? If not, they are way down the list.
  8. NU used to be known for developing unknown and under talented kids. Back in the day, a kid came to NU (walk ons), worked hard in the weight room, played on the scout team, had a red shirt year, and did not see the field until his junior year, then moved into a starting or significant role during their senior season. And, in a lot of instances, was named to the first or second All Conference team. Not so much anymore. When NU experienced the unfortunate circumstance called Steve Peterson, who fired Frank Solich, the concept of player development went out the door. Bill Callahan went the Juco route and things have not turned around in a significant manner in the "development" department. Until we get that mentality back, the "player development" mode, we will remain mediocre. Depth is a key factor in any program. Unless you have players waiting in the wings who can actually play at a highly "developed" level, the program will not move forward.
  9. NU's season will depend largley on the Offensive and Defensive Line. They were supposed to be better last year, but sadly they were not. If the result is the same this year, look for another 10-4 season. To try and analyze each game is a crap shoot at best. If you cannot block and cannot tackle, you cannot win no matter how many stars your QB, RB or WR have behind their names. It is that simple. Anyone, who believes otherwise, is a fool.
  10. When the Big 12 Conference originated, Dr. Tom saw the inevitable. He warned about the Texas takeover and the South Division running and ruining the league. His prophecy was epic. When the Big 12 Conference headquarters were moved, it signaled beginning of the end of the stability of the league. Yes, I am glad as hell we are out of the cesspool of the Big 12. The coming years will make us more at home in the Big 10 and the memory of the Big 12 will be a mere blink of a thought on everyone's mind.
  11. Yes, you are correct about the projection of talent until the tree ripens the fruit. However, this last season, the tree needed some really bad watering! My questions is, can the coaches turn on the hose?
  12. I do not think this class will get us to where we need to be. Simply put, there are no recruits in this current class that will be "impact" players. NU will be continually looking to the Jr. College ranks, in future years, to fill holes they did not or could not recruit. The best that will happen to this class is that some of them, by the time they are Seniors, will share positions with like players because there is a significant lack of bonifide stand out talent. NU does not seem to have the capacity to "develop" players in the manner of the "Pipe Line" years. We do not have the experience or quality in the coaching staff to do that. So, add that into the equation of a very mediocore class of 2012 and we will continue to see 9-4 seasons. It will be difficult to get over that hump. A lot of these players will fall through the cracks because they will never see the field in a real game. If you read the press about recruits, far too often, we get a huge build up of the possible sensation of this or that recruit and they just do not pan out. Again, I bring you back to position coaches. Jamal Turner is a prime example of a kid who showed tons of potential, played pretty good the first 5 games of the season and then fell off of the radar. All you heard was that he was "having difficulty getting motivated" or "he still has a lot to learn at his position." The kid is a great athelete. Great atheletes need to get on the field, someplace. You may have to live with some inconsistancies and a few screw ups but they need to be on the field. That is what coaching is about, getting your best athelets on the field. Otherwise, they will be kicking rocks down the road. Someone tell mey why we never played a back-up QB? Why is he not developed to the point that if something happens to our number one, he can come in and get the job done? We lack the capacity to develop players. That falls on the position coaches which ultimately falls on the decision of the head coach to hired these people. Once again, we cannot afford to recruit marginal players because we do not and will not develop them to a significant higher level. We should never recruit a player as an "athelete." It is a sign of weakness for not being able to recruit kids who can fill your specific needs. If you cannot recruit a really good player and develop him, how in the hell are you going to develop an "athelete" and get him on the field to be an asset? Barry Schwitzer had it right when he said, (paraphrased here) "Nebraska will never return to the years of their greatness in the 1990's because they do not have the continuity and the expertise of the long time committment of their great assistant coaches."
  13. Did not see "None of the above" as a choice in the poll.
  14. The best thing that could happen is that Doc gracefully resign. He knows where he is at. He knows what is ahead of him. Things are not going to get better. Time is to man lup, take his lumps and move on.
  15. Marvelous Marvin will have to discipline himself to stay away from those SoCal coeds on the beach. Just sayin'.................................................................................... He will never coach at NU again because of his off field activities.
  16. How many of those yards on the ground did Rex get with his own individual effort after contact? How many well blocked runs did we have for over 10 yards? Rex is a quality back. He had to carriy the ball 284 times. We had 21 QB sacks! That does not include rushing losses behind the line of scrimage. NU has a lot of young OL players. Maybe it will get better. I am betting as long as Cotton is OL coach it will not evolve into a quality line. Peat was a huge miss.
  17. Personally, I like a system that gets us to 13-0, not 9-3. Recruting makes the difference. Granted, stars behind names does not mean much but you have to get some big fish in order to have a successful fish fry. This recruiting class does not have many big fish. Face the truth of the matter.
  18. you've yet to provide any evidence since the last time that i asked that pelini's demeanor has any effect on our recruiting. this may come as a surprise to you, but there are quite a few fiery football coaches in the world. i have no idea why the local media and some of the fans think it is such a big deal. so far i have seen quite a few quotes from players that like pelini. i've yet to see any that mentioned his behavior as a reason not to play here. as to cotton, i'm pretty sure we had a good offensive line last year. not yet up to mid-90's standards, but it's been improving over the last couple of seasons and looked pretty good for most the year. i know he's everyone's favorite whipping boy, and that he doesn't deserve any credit for the play of his offensive line, but something seems to be working there. Improving Offensive Line? What the hell are you smoking? What games were you watching?
  19. Absolutely correct. Could not have said it better. Pelini might make a really good Defensive Coordinator some place but he is not head coach material. He has shown that over and over. Top kids will not play for a bipolar psychotic mega egocentric idiot on the sidlines.
