Ever?! Yes, ever...haven't checked the old scrolls from 1922 and the recruiting classes of Cal, Cornell, ND, etc.? Know your history. Last 15-20 years, relevant enough to say that stars do matter. Heck, look at Alabama, they were outside the top 15 until about '06/'07...just before their first title in '09 and dynasty run.

Only one team outside of top 15 recruiting class has won a National Title. Virginia Tech, I believe.

I don't think I'll understand why UCLA is ranked. They have one nice win against 2 losses and multiple escapes.

It's not just 247 that does that. I believe it was Scout that formed by branching away from ESPN because the West Coast recruitniks got tired of the east coast bias in the rankings. Basically anything west of the Mississippi was discredited and those covering that territory got fed up and formed Scout. It's no excuse for 247 to downgrade him and ignore his talent, it hurts their credibility, but it happens across the board. Another reason why we're nuts for getting up in arms

I believe chatelain reads every husker forum and writes articles based on what trends he sees from given material week to week. There is little to nothing he writes that hasn't been brought up on message boards. Good for clicks and comments, awful at original thoughts.

Two things that keep me from downing the Kool-Aid are: We are good for one bad egg laying game that we lose. We can't seem to win the (over)hyped big games on national TV as either dogs or favorites, and we look embarrassingly bad. As mentioned, we have taken care of the ball better. Special teams has put us in such better field position this year, often an undervalued aspect of the game. The difference I am seeing is that players are being less mental and more instinctual. Not mind blowing yet, but progress from last year. It's a young defense still learning the game and making mistakes, but buckling down as game progresses.

The no call Offensive PI when Mitchell got chucked before the kid made his cut and made a catch for first down was crap. The play right after the NW kid got hurt. The play where Zaire lowered his head and the announcers (and Fitzgerald) were upset, they missed a holding on Gregory as Siemian scrambled out of the backfield. Also side note, Fitz is pretty whiny himself. Btn aired last years game right before the broadcast and he was whiny back then too.

I won't believe that fans/forums are the main reason why a kid decommits, but I have heard kids speak to it. Heck, we love the stories of kids showing up for visits, fans knowing their names and rattling off their stats and how much of an impression that made. Ralph Brown had a great story about that. So, why is it unfathomable to see the flip side? Can't have your cake and it eat too.

I bought into Pelini's idea of "earning" the blackshirts, but it seemed like after they "earned" them, the defense laid an egg the following weekend. I'm now in the opinion of please hand them out, at minimum to those deserving of one, so others have something to strive for.
