  1. Hah! We had a 1st team all state RB in my class and our quarterfinals opponent hosed down their Astro turf field on game day with temps in the upper 30s / low 40s. We were one win away from playing Leon Jackson for the title.
  2. lol ahh, that’s fair. Hedges my statement but still believe the NCAA would take any dirt on Harbaugh annd investigate until they finally “get” him. I’m not a Harbaugh guy at all, but seems like they have an axe to grind compared to other shady doings. Or maybe Harbaugh really is just a sleaze, dunno.
  3. Imagine how much worse the stadium/fans could be over the last 8 years be if alcohol was allowed?
  4. Smells of NCAA ego not letting go of the fact they got punk’d by Harbaugh. Kind of a conundrum really, would never want this for my program and consider this a fishing expedition but also, f#&% Michigan/Harbaugh.
  5. Fair points which I don’t argue, but I don’t know if I’d subscribe to that same philosophy - and not saying that you are, either. Maybe my opinion is skewed by what followed Solich and Pelini and I definitely understand the desire for taking a program to the next level, but I hedge on firing a consistent successful coach. I wouldn’t argue against sticking by K Ferentz, but I’d have a problem with the contracts the AD dolled out and the nepotism with Brian. Similar here by trading Chryst for Fickell. I’d lean toward incremental changes than completely changing up the staff. Oh well, hoping we can gain from potential mistakes made by our conference foes.
  6. Maybe off topic…but why did Chryst and UW go separate ways? Really hoping this is UWs “Callahan” moment where the old regime (Alvarez) is replaced with new (Fickell) and the identity is lost. Start poaching the hogs that built UWs OL dominance.
  7. I ponder whether or not Maryland had a hangover from the OSU game. Fortunately for us they’ll be coming off of PSU who potentially has a greater physically imposing defense than OSU
  8. Unless Def/ST stack up multiple scores, the Wisconsin and Iowa games will be a race for first to 20pts.
  9. Always wondered what could have been had they started Taylor as a true freshman. I believe the starting defense said he give them fits in practice
  10. Was thinking the similar when they showed the replay. The broadcast sure did gloss over that fact too.
  11. I learned Big Ten officials hit the season quota of holding penalties against Husker opponents. Won’t see another one for 12 games
  12. Funny how Helfrich anticipated something goofy on that kick. Almost empathize with Illini fans, the start of this game seems like the better half of the last decade for us.
  13. Student section should roll out a giant “1-800-BETS-OFF” poster for Iowa. Surprised that hasn’t happened yet anyway.
  14. reduce seating -> maintain revenue by increasing ticket -> drive out the riff raff -> introduce alcohol sales
  15. Muted the volume at 14-0, did I miss much commentary? It definitely made it less insufferable, even though Huard is one of the more respectful commentators to NU. Agree with those about NIL. Just open the check book - especially for a WR and multiple OL. Need to at least be a winning team before relying more on developing a program through evaluation and development. The team looked flat two weeks in a row. UM beat us soundly, but something seems off and hopefully a night game on the road against Illinois can light a little fire and carry momentum into future weeks. The 4th down shotgun snap up the middle was a really lame call. We really burned a timeout for that?
  16. My dad didn’t think to register me for football in 4th grade because I didn’t meet the minimum weight requirement. I barely made it as a 5th grader and somehow managed to become the starting Halfback and also played Fullback. The following year my dad talked my buddy’s mom into finally letting him play - “if my son can play, your son sure as heck can play.” Welp, he took over at halfback and tore it up, he later went on to earn a scholarship at Washington. The undersized, slow to develop gene continued through high school. Was reluctant to play sophomore year but went to the first week of practice. I hated it, I remember looking around and thinking to myself how I don’t belong here, but I had made a commitment and stuck out the season. Tail end of the season I was on scout team D playing safety - all 5’4 120lbs. One play was a toss sweep and drifted to my left, but then saw the WR cut toward the backfield and I read the reverse. I redirected and pinned my ears to start my angle of pursuit to the other sideline, however, a 6’4 265lb LT head hunted me and blind side blocked me, he just blew me the fuuuuck up. He lifted me off the ground, mouth piece went flying, and I landed gasping for air as the wind was knocked out of me. I peeled my b!^@h a$$ off the field and told myself I’m never playing football again after the season ends. Completely legal block and turned out to be my lesson about keeping your head on a swivel. To this day and through rule changes, I still have no remorse over watching someone get crack blocked.
  17. Yup, I agree with that. It was a great performance by the defense in what seemed to be highlight-less. Hopefully they can create more turnovers and put up points of their own. If they can learn to win against B1G schools next, maybe they get some momentum
  18. I wouldn’t be too surprised we trip up against Illinois on a Friday night after a physical game against Michigan. While Illinois looks its worst since Lovie, I can see NU going out s#!tting the bed and giving the game away in the end.
  19. Team looked off yesterday. Mixture of losing top-2 RBs, not having Lenhardt, and no threat at Wide Out made this team look, at best, no progress from last week. Depth on this team is 3-4 years away, as long as Rhule and Co. retain the right players and develop. Makes sense why we are looking at 25+ in this recruiting class. A good % of players will be replaced by next Spring and Summer. I am encouraged for the future, but not for the season. Injury bug has nipped us and key transfers didn’t pan out. I’ll be satisfied with 6 wins, but 5 might be all we get to.
  20. CSU shot them selves in the foot several times. The “pick” penalty in 2OT was a weak call. CSU < WSU/OSU/OU/Usc/UW/UU/UCLA. Those teams will thump Colorado and the love affair will end. State of Colorado football is dirty, that game last night had to be an officials nightmare.
  21. Yeah, that’s fair. I’ll tip the cap to Sanders and WR for breaking our back. Maybe I’m going to give Sanders or CU OC too much credit, but I believe they recognized the all out blitz and checked to a quick drop and fade route knowing they were in man.
  22. Easily 2-0 with Casey Thompson. The final 2/3 final td’s came at the expense of defense having to sellout for a big play - sack/scoop/score - because the offense wasn’t going to get NU back in the game.
  23. We don’t have great WRs yet and Sims seems to be late on reads and just overall not an effective passing QB. Turn this offense into an Iowa offense for the season and pound the rock, eat the clock, and protect the football. Mix in some option run and pass plays, and let Sims and Ervin bruise some tacklers for Johnson or others to slash through. Few back-7 defenders have the size against Sims, they don’t want that in the open field at all. If the defense maintains and somehow develops a pass rusher or two, they could get on track for 6 wins, maybe steal 2 more if things go right.
