  1. We can look at what SMU players were getting payed to figure out where this could end up. It was fairly well known that a recruiting bid for Marcus Dupree's commitment was $100K if I remember correctly. I don't recall what Cam Newton was rumored to cost. Whether true or not, the rumored amounts were plausible. Everyone knows this will create inequalities between schools but nobody knows to what degree. If your prediction is true and only small money will be paid out to some players then why venture down that road? Is it worth risking a drastic shift in CFB (in case predictions are wrong) to correct a perceived injustice to only a small number of players?
  2. I agree. Buckle up, we're headed down a slippery slope. Don't hold your breath on this one
  3. Yes it is. I'm currently reading "The Madness of Crowds: Gender, Race and Identity" by Douglas Murray. This is the kind of thing that people push without being fully thought out. Careful, lest you be labelled as someone that supports universities and the evil NCAA that have been exploiting athletes for years! We need social justice! Hopefully some adults step in and take control of this nonsense.
  4. To maximize how much money ends up in a student's hands I think the athletic departments could hire a couple of agents to handle all of the players. This would probably be the most efficient way of funneling fan money to our purchased players. Maybe the university has Adidas provide this service as part of their contract. Probably the simplest way is no agent and just have people take a selfie with the players and hand them $2000 if they scored a touchdown or made a sack that weekend. Once players get paid there is no way the NCAA can restrict how much they get paid. It's going to be the wild west! Thanks California! When this goes through fans should drop their season tickets and use the money to buy the players. The players shouldn't mind playing in empty stadiums as long as they get paid. CFB attendance has been dropping anyway so schools may want to stop maintaining their stadiums and just play on soccer fields or local high school fields. TV networks can use CGI to give the appearance that they're playing in one of those old timey stadiums.
  5. Damn it, I already had a scheme for bringing back county scholarships but real this time.
  6. Woo hoo, we're back baby!!!! We need to get youtube channels set up for players and recruits. Order cash registers for fan day. Start printing up the t-shirts. Might as well put the facilities upgrades on hold. All we need are studios to film commercials and live auction facilities for memorabilia items. With all of our fan support we should be able to get one of the best teams money can buy. Finally a level playing field!!!
  7. C'mon man, give them a break. It had to be a shock believing there could be no ice cream after the game. Seriously though, I can't begin to explain what's going on with this generation. It seems like Frost believes maintaining his cool and coaching in a calm manner is more effective. The way the team has been playing it's probably a good thing Frost vents occasionally.
  8. I re-read Miles recruiting thread. A lot of people had high hopes for him. I've learned not to get excited about incoming players until they step on our field and actually show something in a game. Injuries, attitude, work ethic, legal issues (a new concern), knowing the playbook, academics, lacking specific abilities and whatnot can keep players from succeeding. Wandale was an exception and I think Smothers will be pretty good.
  9. Continuity of staff is important. Us fans can have some bad takes but when we collectively see the same things over and over there's probably something to it. Obviously there are things on the field that aren't correct and we have strong suspicion that it's coaching and not due to incorrect player execution. Since firing coaches is undesirable, bringing in additional coaches to analyze what we are doing on offense and defense is a reasonable solution. They can point out everything from schematic issues down to problems in the minutiae of play execution. Not every coach can know everything. As an example, Austin may not have played center and doesn't know some simple tricks of the trade. Maybe the extra coach does or he knows someone that does or he can be tasked with finding someone that has the knowledge. Even if our coaches know why certain things aren't working the additional coaches could provide advise on different techniques to teach the players and get the plays to work. I imagine just because a play is in the playbook not every coach is going to know all of the little things that are important for that play to be successful. If fixing those little things results in plays going 5 yards instead of 4 that's huge. It could make HB boring if we don't have mysteries to dissect such as why can't we blitz, why can't we run a screen play, why does our punter like the side of his foot. Although, I think we would all be happier if we didn't have to watch high snaps for half a season.
  10. Watching other teams that blitz well I notice the blitzer has a clear lane to the QB and it isn't by chance. The DL easily creates those lanes by occupying multiple OL. The D-lineman doesn't have to move O-linemen. He simply has to first engage the O-linemen closest to the lane and then push away from the lane where another O-linemen may also engage him. The O-linemen closest to the lane now has his body turned away from the lane slightly so even if he sees the blitzer it's almost impossible for him to disengage and pick up the blitzer. I believe that is what I'm seeing. Rarely does the first O-linemen sniff out what is going on, passes off the DL and picks up the blitzer. I want to rewatch the OSU-Wiscy game because they got to Fields 4 or 5 times and I don't think any were by linemen so probably blitzing linebackers. When Wiscy moved to the 3-4 their defense ranking went up and they mastered blitzing from day one. Our blitzers are easily blocked either by an O-linemen or the backside of our D-linemen. It's frustratingly comical. Either there isn't proper coordination between the DL and linebackers OR the DL simply aren't doing their job OR the linebackers are running to the wrong place OR our coaches don't know what they are doing. A blitz that doesn't get home is a dangerous waste so Chin probably feels it better to use them in pass coverage or stay home so they can watch the QB run past them. Given that it took half a season to figure out how to snap the football I wouldn't expect us to be good at blitzing for another couple of seasons. Meanwhile it's probably hurting our OL preparation. Our OL think they are doing a swell job double teaming a DL completely oblivious to the blitzing linebacker running past them.
  11. Yikes. Take it back! McQuitty quitting seems preordained.
  12. Our execution probably scares Chin away from calling blitzes. He probably checks what we are capable of early in the season and has to dial back from there. That's my guess.
  13. I hadn't heard that before but it's confirmation. Blowouts were OK as long as they got 9 wins was the prevalent mindset under the Pelini regime. I remember Cotton crowing after a game about it being our ninth win although it was an abysmal showing. Of course that was a typical season where we looked like we didn't belong in the same league with Wisconsin, OSU or Michigan (take your pick). Before a Wisconsin or OSU game Pelini was interviewed and he said he thought we were a 9 win program. I knew then we were going to get smoked so didn't bother watching. Going from that to no standards under Relliy it's easy to see how a well entrenched locker room mentality developed that was polar opposite to that which Frost experienced in his playing days. At least he knows what it should be like, maybe he can get it back. If playing like they did on Indiana's last emasculating TD drive where they rammed it to us without a reach around doesn't make the Blackshirts want to get better, I don't have much hope. Pride level 0.
  14. This discussion about playing underclassmen comes up almost every year. Did any of our coaches ever start a large number of freshmen and unseat starters? Whether they did or not doesn't matter because in subsequent years they played and we were still mediocre in the AS era. I can understand hoping that we have some great talented underclassmen that can make a difference just sitting on the bench but we might be
  15. It's also a good summary of key player bunglings. Eliminate a few of them and we probably win.

  17. I stopped watching the game live. Finding out the result is a short time annoyance rather than a long drawn out one. I'll catch the replay on BTN... or not.
  18. I believe TO turned to Bowden and FSU's staff to help fix the defense. McBride was the DC at the time and used the knowledge gained to produce some outstanding defenses. Without the help I'm not sure anything would have changed and the fan's opinion of McBride was probably right. Anyone with more knowledge about that time please correct me. Because our staff is young and inexperienced, I really think they would benefit a lot by having some unemployed head coaches on staff as analysts whose only job is to analyze what we are doing on offense and defense. They can identify weaknesses and specific things we need to improve on. The coaches can focus on game planning for specific opponents. I believe Saban utilizes his analysts to game plan for opponents but I think we need help identifying things we are doing wrong.
  19. On the bright side, there's a wholotta (invented word) young ones that have only known bad Nebraska football- almost a generation. I kinda envy them.
  20. If all the players flew around and gave the same effort as Domann, I'd have a hard time complaining about the defense (I'm assuming he still does).
  21. No, I think you said he stunks. Thanks for the clarification!
  22. You want him arrested and prosecuted under law for missing meetings and various other things that violate team rules? You and Mo have something in common
