  1. lol, can you please elaborate on all the "talent" we've had at our disposal? Riley inflated his classes with 4 star skill position players, the majority of which never played a snap or stepped on campus. O line "talent" was atrocious and you simply can't compete with a young O line in today's football landscape. Show me one team with an O line mostly made up of freshman/sophomores and I'll show you a team with a 8 win ceiling max. While Bo did a decent job placing defensive talent in the NFL, the lack of all conf recognition along with minimal draft talent tells the story of the past decade
  2. Would have been nice to have a Stanley/Oz level replacement or have another year with both of them to see how this offense really stacks up. While I love spielman, he's too small to be a #1 receiver in my opinion and is ideal being that #2 receiver who can both burn you deep while living in the middle of the field. I didn't even need the stats (though its a great comparison!) as a simple eye test is all anyone needs to know this years offense was a shell of what we had last year and losing all conf talents at both the WR1 and RB position hurt more than we anticipated entering the year Running back wise, the maurice situation didnt help matters but neither did mills half season of adjustment. Mills really turned it up at the halfway point and cant wait to see what he's gonna do with another full year next year. I also cant help but wonder what would have happened had we simply learned to snap the f'n ball prior to 5 games into the season. While there were other factors in play, particularly around the colorado debacle, the horrendous snaps were an egregious mishap by a power 5 team and I think truly played a part in AM looking so tentative this year. The man spent nearly half the time needing to jump to corral an errant snap... a lot of this is pure fundamentals, but a lot of this also lands on frost not making adjustment to his formations when everyone could clearly see we couldnt get AM the ball consistently where it needs to be.
  3. Maybe a little optimistic but I don’t think I’m vastly overrating us. I think we pissed away the Purdue game early by not capitalizing with TDs and putting them away. We get them at home with pretty much our whole offense a year older with hopefully a few more pieces. I hope that an improved o line will enable this offense to do what he wants which will improve everything else
  4. THIS. half those players who start/play meaningful time don't even qualify as Big 10 level starters, IMHO. Where does lack of age/experience really show up? On the lines.... where was some of our weakest links on the team this year? Line play and lack of depth. Particularly around the offense... go back at look at those oregon offensive lines and what frost had to work with from a run blocking standpoint. We literally have no one even remotely close to being all big 10 status based off this past year, that will rarely work in a power 5 conference and will never work in the big 10
  5. Probably not, but he is so what's the point of playing devils advocate
  6. he's not wrong, have u bothered to even look at the schedule? Sure, the last 5 weeks are f'n brutal but we play away from memorial only once until 10/24 and its northwestern which who knows wtf to expect. I think you need to open your eyes and realize the house isnt on fire like u think it is
  7. Purdue, Central michigan, south dakota, rutgers and illinois... thats 5 heavily favored wins right there. Cinci will be a fun out of conf matchup but honestly, I think we still win this in convincing fashion. They didn't look that great against memphis. Northwestern, Iowa, and minnesota games will be toss ups Ohio state, penn state, wisconsin are what I'd mark as for sure wins and frankly, i think the Wisc match up could transition to a toss up depending on if we progress Assuming we win one of the toss up games (should beat NW handily but that game is always close) you're at 6, if we beat cinci thats 7.... So yeah, 5 is def achievable and frankly would put frost on the hot seat status if we're here next year at this time 5-7 again... We wont be tho
  8. Talent is a big issue tho. Go back and look at Riley’s last 2 classes that were bloated with higher rated skill players that either didn’t step foot on campus or play meaningful snaps. theres a reason why wandale, Maurice and Adrian are the only consistent Form of offense yet they’re youngins
  9. It should be Luke. The throw he had today going left across the body was a thing of beauty with perfect touch. Move Martinez to WR with some trick throwing plays called every game. new age crouch Newcombe?
  10. There’s definitely massive areas of improvement for the defense... tackling and pressure being at the top of the list. but I 100% agree. This offense’s tendency to consistently have 2nd and 3rd and long situations leads to short drives which leads to this defense being hung out to dry. I am confident quality o lineman are a year or two away and hope we see vast improvement soon as frosts offense badly needs the ability to pick up 4-6 consistently on first down with the run
  11. I agree, loss mainly on our offense doing nothing those 4 or 5 straight drives in the 2nd half where our defense came up with stops. While perhaps our strongest position group on the defense, I found their performance incredibly underwhelming all year. Maybe it’s the scheme but not once did we display the capability to get consistent pressure all year and our run defense once again left a lot to be desired. So much offseason hype and I think that was a byproduct of looking good against this subpar offense while they might have been our best position group, the bar is set awfully low on a 5-7 team
  12. He’s def a home run threat but this offense is missing a deep threat. A WR that demands attention streaking down the field or a deep post. A Stanley, Kenny bell or DPE would have been wonderful this year while mo and Wan’Dale can score at any time, they’re not a receiver who can line up and beat a corner consistently
  13. I think the swing pass overload is a by product of not being able to do anything early in the year up the middle. Perhaps to try and bring the defense more to edges of the field. Problem is they need to cut the swing pass down by like 25%... a lot needs to be addressed but this thread title is a knee jerk overreaction. Sure, we have some positions to fill but frankly this d line was overrated since the summer and the linebackers can’t get any worse... I hope
  14. I don’t think Cinci Iowa or Minnesota should be assumed wins
  15. Lol, neither the wrs or o line can block... why do we keep doing this bs screen/swing crap
  16. New DC needed now. Not even touched until the 3rd level on that run
  17. Can’t establish rhythm. So we insert backup qb randomly into series 2? Got it
  18. so you're saying we're nothing but a group of gypsy peasants at this point? Sounds accurate
  19. Thanks for the explanation!! In that case, where's our southern alabama turf?!?!?!?
  20. I'm so confused, how the hell we not have Maryland after literally marching in there in person and handling business?!?! I want ma east coast land!!!
  21. 100% agree. Confident there will be a correction soon given the size and caliber Frosty is bring onboard
  22. You know what might work wonders? Having an offense that actually has a consistent pulse and identity. While there are elements about Chin's defense that needs altering (defensive line philosophy, uneven blitzing cadences, etc) I think a lot of it has to do with the talent on hand but moreso this offense doing them NO favors. Our offense has put our Defense in a horrible position for 2 years on 2 fronts: 1. Unable to stay on the field for long drives consistently has led to our defense being on the field far longer than they should be. When you consider the types of offenses we typically face this is a situation that few DCs would be consistently succesful with unless we had a significant talent advantage (hint, we dont) 2. Our offense's inability to put points on the board, consistently, has oftentimes led our team from playing from behind. This allows opposing team's to pretty much open up the whole playbook instead of creating a situation where the wisconsins and iowas of the world need to throw it more because they're down. I'd love to see what this defense could do when they can simply pin their ears back and get after the offense and not be in a situation where they have to sell out to stop the run. Now that being said, our tackling is f'n pitiful and needs to be corrected regardless. If Chin and co cant address this then should be shown the door after next year. But I truly think this defense would look a helluva lot better if this offense didn't hang them out to dry on a weekly basis
