  1. I hope Accountability is right, and I wish I could share his optimism. But I can't. The thing that stands out to me from his post above is: The issues under Bo have always been fixable, but we've rarely seen improvement (turnovers especially). Now don't go looking up some specific stats to show particular points of improvement, I know there is an ebb and flow to most things and I don't mean to say that everything has always been exactly the same, but we've been saying the same thing for several years now. We are hopeful for next year because the defense improved over the second half of the season, and we got to the bowl game and finally won a game against a higher ranked team? Waht happens if we open the season flat again and terrible on defense, if it costs us a couple games we shouldn't have lost but then they finally turn it on toward the end fo the year? We'll be looking at 2015 and saying: "The defense showed improvement, so I am hopeful;" "We're on the right track, no major changes are necessary;" "Let's give them one more year to pull it together;" etc... I would personally like to see more staff changes and upgrades, but I'm sure not knowledgable enough to say that is the answer, I'm just a frustrated fan that knows that the best indicator of future behavior is past behavior, and we've been seeing and saying the same things for years now.
  2. I didn't realize so many people were fans of watching golf on TV. How? Why? I don't understand. I used to think that the Golf Channel was either a mistake by TV execs or simply paid for by equipment suppliers. How can anyone watch golf for hours on end, and especially how can it compete in any way with Husker football? I'm legitimately curious.

    A Rod

I think most of us felt that way. I mean, Armstrong was one of the most inspiring stories in sports and one of the most dominating athletes ever. The dude was an absolute icon of all things that were good about sport and humanity, until things came crashing down. Now he's a lesson in idolatry and being careful with your heroes. In contrast, A Rod was never inspirational. Just another good athlete who turned out to be self-destructive.
  4. Holy crap, someone actually thought this was a good idea. At least the Blazing Saddles gif from LSUfreek was funny. This is just tasteless.
  5. I usually don't get too involved in political discussion, but I'll just comment on this thread for the heck of it... I disagree that Hillary would not have been too polarizing had she won in 2008. There was probably not a more polarizing Democrat at the time. The Republicans hated the Clinton name as much as Democrats had grown to hate the Bush name. I personally think she could have been a good president, and I like her, as much as the right has fought Obama tooth and nail on everything, I think it would have been worse against Hillary, at least during the first couple of years. In 2008, Obama was more of an unknown, a fresh-faced source of optimism, and Hillary was the bulldog who would take the fight to the Republicans. Overall, I don’t really think that we’d be in that much of a different place as a nation if any one of these scenarios had turned out differently. Some of the feuds and controversies would be different, but the political theater would still just overshadow the real work being done on the ground, and any long-term impact from any of these potential presidents would not be felt for a few more years. We’d be pretty much the same as now, we just wouldn’t be arguing about Obamacare, some other crisis (manufactured or real) would take its place.
  6. Probably. And 4 losses. Bo's habit. 2008 - 4L, 2009 - 4L, 2010 - 4L, 2011 - 4L, 2012 - 4L, 2013 - 4L MiamiFL - L Michigan State @ East Lansing - L Wisky @ Madison - L Iowa @ Iowa City or post season bowl - L As much as I hate to agree with this prediction, I do, however, what are the chances that these loses are in the 3-10 point range as opposed to the 20-30 point range that we have, sadly, become accustomed to a few times per season? Predicting 4 losses is easy by now, but which 4 games is harder to predict. We won in Ann Arbor and Happy Valley this past season, but incredibly still found a way to lose 4 other games that most of us would not have guessed!
  7. Cool little shout out to Eric the Red and Knapplc in the Acknowledgements too.
  8. Yep, exactly. Yep, exactly. Yep, exactly.
  9. I got these books for Christmas and am impressed by the amount of material in them. These books are massive, and from the little that I've been able to peruse so far, each of the million pages (approximately) are filled from top to bottom with fantastic insight. Great job Mr. Koch. Very impressive collectino of info.
  10. The thing I hated the worst about the 2009 Texas game was the fact that it set us up perfectly for a dominating revenge game in Lincoln the next season. A game that everyone was amped up for. So thirsty for Longhorn blood were we! Well, everyone except the actual team, who pissed down their leg instead. Even with so many heartbreaking losses and blowouts over the past few years, there was nothing more disappointing than the 2010 Texas game.
  11. Here's something radical: Blow up all the conferences and create 15 conferences of 8 teams each (limit D-1 inclusion to 120 teams, maybe do a relegation/promotion system for the Southern Alabama and UMass type teams from year to year). The 8 team conferences play a 7 game round-robin schedule, resulting in clear champions for each conference. After conference play, we have a 32 team bracket that is played out - champions plus a bunch of wild card teams selected by committe or BCS or whatever. There would still be controversy in the selection, but we know for sure the top teams would get in at least. Teams who aren't included in the tourney, since there are still several weeks left in the season, get a new schedule made up for them, perhaps a series of regional tournaments with teams from other conferences so they still have something to play for. This would be a pain becuase people wouldn't be able to plan ahead before the season, but oh well. Including the conference schedule and the couple teams who make it throw the whole tourney, we're only talking 12 games, so there is still room for non-conference play (three games?) in the first few weeks of the season. And by the time the championship game rolls around, the other teams can be sorted into the various bowls so everyone can go out like they do now. So we've got a true champion played out on the field, new conference affiliations, maintain bowl traditions, not too many games, everyone is making money, and Pelini still goes 9-4.
  12. I like this. I've always thought a 6 team bracket would be interesting but have never fully fleshed out the idea.
  13. Someone should start a sock puppet account and name it Fauxbody just to interact with Nobody in this thread.
  14. I've been studying this thread title like a Rubik's cube for four days now. I don't get it.
  15. LOL! Well played. That could be the catchphrase of the offseason (or for perpetuity): If X happens, this team could go 9-4 next year.
  16. Terrell Clinkscales ‏@TerrellClink9210m Who ever started the rumor I won't be eligible has lost there mine! NU fans I work hard see you in May I can't fathom how anyone might think he could have academic issues.
  17. Just look at this gif. I guarantee the first word that pops into everyone's head is "douchebag."
  18. Stupid list. NFL players aren't eligible for the Heisman!
