  1. Offense: Newby. I think we are going to see a confident player that has a chance to get into the flow of the game and he is going to show the talent we always heard he had. Defense: Gangwish. I don't think we will necessarily see this great pass rusher but I think he will more than hold his own in the run game and he will get to the QB at least once.
  2. Different generations/age groups definitely take management differently. One thing that I am finding with the younger generation just coming into the job market is many need to learn or get used to actually using the phone. They text so much anymore that sometimes simple phone conversations can be uncomfortable to some. It's easy to get used to and most catch on pretty quickly. But, texting just doesn't cut it in the work place and that's how most have communicated most of the time growing up.
  3. Have to admit. I got a good chuckle over this video especially since it was against Texas.
  4. What exactly does it mean we are "going in the wrong direction"? Serious question. I was out with a group of guys a couple weeks ago and a really good friend of mine just absolutely got so worked up and started ranting about how this country has gone to hell in the last ten years and how much worse off we are now than we were then and on and on and on. The rest of us were so shocked at how pissed off he was we just sat there and tried to change the subject. This is a very smart, very successful guy but after a few beers was the wrong time to question him on it. So, I'm asking here.
  5. I don't have a problem with anyone that is deeply into something. Everyone needs a hobby. Some guys hunt, I have never been hunting in my life. Some guys are into cars, I drive a 1995 Ford F-150 I bought for 1500.00. Some guys are into the gambling aspect of sports, I haven't bet on a team since I was in college and have never done fantasy football. As I have grown older I have become a much bigger college football fan, not just a Nebraska fan. My hobby is watching college football. If I allowed it and my wife would not get on me I could watch college football all day on Saturday from the first game at 10:30 in the morning till the last game is over at night. I just love watching it. I still will do this on some Saturdays. When she really gets mad at me I usually just say I could be out hunting all weekend. That usually shuts her up. I guess my perspective comes from being around Iowa and ISU fans after living in Iowa for 15 years. CU fans are an entire other bread. I fine with then one on one because I know some I can have fun with. As a group knowing what has happened at games...etc. I don't have much time for. Iowa and ISU fans though....I can have a blast with them. Iowa fans love their team and think they have this long great winning tradition and being a Husker just drives them crazy because deep down they know we are better. ISU fans are fun because they know they suck and they just want to have fun. When in college, the funnest week was OU week. Hated each other on in the stadium but after the game we always had a blast down town together.
  6. OK...I find this stuff really interesting. Maybe I should have taken more sociology in college. LINK I love looking at the difference between generations. Honestly, I think there is both good and bad in all generations. I actually get so frustrated when young people complain about old people and vice versa. Something I always laugh about in this is that I think my generation (48 years old) is the only group that doesn't ever have a label. So, for the "Millenials" in the group, how do you feel about this?
  7. I'm not too concerned about your RBs due to the fact I think our front seven is going to be pretty good and I haven't heard of any world beaters in your back field. I am a little concerned about your WR because I hear you have two that are pretty tall. Haven't heard much about them other than their height. My son is a HS sophomore at 6'6" and I wouldn't be too concerned about him as a WR. The concern comes that our new defense has our CBs on an island more so that we can stop the run. Now, that works if you can put pressure on the QB. If you look back at the 96 Fiesta Bowl against Wuerfle (sp?). We put our CBs on an island by themselves, but the key was, he had absolutely no time to even look for them. You can not leave any CB out there for very long or a good QB is going to find an open receiver. So, I think that's where the key is on this entire game. Can our front 7 first contain your QB and then put so much pressure on him that he doesn't have time to find these giants roaming the frontier?
  8. I'm fine with it staying the way it is. But, the only thing it could be changed to is:
  9. Also I seriously doubt that he's the first QB to do this. Wouldn't surprise me if a bunch of guys did. Not that that makes it right. It's just hard to justify totally crucifying the first guy who they decide to crack down on. Meh....just because he is the first guy that gets caught doesn't mean he shouldn't be punished. Look, the guy's name and image has been drug through the mud on this the entire time after he won the Super Bowl. No, I'm not crying any tears for the guy. It's time to move on. I will guarantee you that he and any other QB that is thinking about this is going to think real hard before they do it and probably won't. Serious question. Do you really think this changed the outcome of the SB? They won the SB because Seattle made the dumbest offensive play call on the two yard line at the end of the game. The happiest guy in the entire issue is the Seattle OC because immediately everyone stopped talking about how stupid he was.
  10. Man...that would be fun if you could get the game! Yeah...if we could get the game it would be awesome...but we can't.
  11. Wake up from the HS football game the night before. Fuss around the house until about 9:30. Go to HS cross country meet till about 1:00 2:00 head to lake cabin with family. Spend afternoon and evening on lake pulling kids around on tubes Try my best to check scores on a lake with absolutely no cell phone service. Complain to wife that she spoke for the cabin on opening weekend of college football drive a mile away to find cell phone service to catch up on scores complain to wife again get yelled at complain again grill hamburgers while drinking a couple beers....maybe complain again...listen to wife complain that I've drank two beers go to bed with no chance Monday evening get back home and watch the game. Yep...that pretty much sums up my weekend.
  12. Oh, I completely agree. That is exactly what the game is about. To me it just seem funny how everyone is making Hill out to be this super human. They did it with Jake Locker a couple of years ago. It is not the guys that you have respect for that you have to worry about a lot of times it is the ones you don't respect. Like the QB at Minnesota he killed us last year. I disagree. Taysom is the kind of player who can win a game by himself. Really? that would be cool to see. I have never seen one player go against an entire 11 man team all by themselves. By the sounds of it, we might see him do that this Saturday.
  13. I watched probably half to 2/3s back when it came out. I'm not going to go back and watch it again to find specifics for you. If you don't think it was a movie made to scare people into getting behind climate change legislation by showing everything to the extreme then ignore those two words in my post. Not much else to discuss about it.
  14. I added those words due to the fact it was produced for no other reason than to scare the crap out of people. He wanted an end result and his way of attaining that was to scare the crap out of people. It was so scary he got major awards for it. Let me put it this way. I think we could all agree that ISIS is a major problem in the world and terrorism poses a certain threat to our lives and well being. OK....now....let's say I feel ISIS needs to be stopped and we need to have major political change to make that happen. So, I go out and make a movie (documentary) showing how ISIS is going to take over the world, invade the US, enslave all of us, rape our women and children and behead anyone who stands in their way and I do it in a way it scares the crap out of people. Would my movie be "fear mongering"? How was it produced to scare the crap out of people? Are you saying it wasn't? The movie took everything to the N'th degree as the absolute worst case scenario. Hey...the special affects were awesome. That was done for one reason, to scare people into believing that is going to happen unless they get behind all the policies he supports.
  15. Here's my attitude towards this. In the grand scheme of things, I really don't give a crap. I'm pretty sure the NFL (if they have a brain) will have a system in place to verify the balls are inflated correctly. But, here's my problem with this decision. Now, every single player that is suspended for breaking rules is going to head straight to court and it's going to be this big court case. If you break the rules, pay the price. Simple as that. Just because you make millions to play a game doesn't mean you should run off to fight for your right to break those rules without punishment.
  16. I think there's probably a grain of truth in there. Not that the earth needs to do anything. It doesn't notice or care. But many scientists believe we are in the midst of a sixth mass extinction caused by humans, which has resulted in the fastest rate of species extinction in millions of years. Left unabated, humans will almost certainly be a part of the extinction. Not to get too political, but this is one of the reasons I don't understand how Christianity got mixed up with the right wing (although on a positive note, I find Pope Francis very refreshing). I always thought growing up that it was a moral imperative to protect and cherish the environment. Why that isn't a cornerstone of modern Christianity is beyond me: it's maybe the moral imperative, especially when you consider the impact on the poor especially if we fail. If we fail, it won't matter if you are poor or rich, we will be exterminated. Speaking specifically about climate change, the poor will be the first to experience the pain of droughts, mass migrations, etc. Yeah, but maybe not specific to climate change. The poor have always been the canary in the coal mine when it comes to disease, economic turmoil, natural disasters, etc. They--or maybe I should say we--provide a buffer zone for those higher up on the economic food chain. This is something that will never ever ever ever change. It's been this way since the beginning of time and in every single form of government and economic system the world has known. If I go into McDonalds and order a burger on the $1 meal, that affects someone that makes minimum wage more than me. It's simple economics.
  17. Here is something I don't understand with him and it' probably just because I've never heard him talk about it. I was corrected in this thread when I said he was a dual threat QB. I was told he considers himself a passing QB that can run. Well....then, what would he be confused about with how he fits into our offense? It's obvious that the passing game is going to be a very important part of the offense and Riley has said over and over and over again he is excited about having a QB that can take off and run if needed. Meanwhile, he is going to visit a place (and quite possibly commit to) that is known for having dual threat QBs and running is a major part of what they want in a QB.
  18. I sat down finally and watched Wrap Up last night. I would say he is 50-50 right now from what he sounded like. I think if we can get him here for a good game, I think we still have a good shot at him. My fear is that he is going to get up there and Scott is going to convince him to commit to them and not even come visit here. If he visits both, we have a 50-50 shot. Then it just boils down to which coaching staff and system he likes best.
  19. While we are talking about being a fan. I have a question. Some people just absolutely can not stand (hate) other teams fans who are fanatic about their team. Why? Isn't that what sports is all about and if everyone love the same team wouldn't that be boring? But, there are those people who if they are around people who love their team as much as they love the Huskers, it just drives them crazy. I have never understood that.
  20. I added those words due to the fact it was produced for no other reason than to scare the crap out of people. He wanted an end result and his way of attaining that was to scare the crap out of people. It was so scary he got major awards for it. Let me put it this way. 21. If all you want to do is limit pass plays, you are right, we didn't need to tweak our secondary philosophy. The problem was we were doing pass coverage at the detriment of run defense. So, I guess if you are OK giving up 400 yards to one guy in two quarters then....yep....we didn't need to tweak our secondary philosophy. We probably will give up more yards in the passing game but our overall defense has a chance to be much better.
  22. Hmmmm...pretty much everyone predicting a close game. I think we will win by at least two TDs.
  23. To me, it has nothing to do with disappointments. Heck, even though we haven't had a great team in the last 10 years, I have still enjoyed the games and team. I guess to me it's more of a maturity thing. I enjoy the process more and realize the win at the end is just the cherry on top. If I don't get the cherry on top, I might be disappointed but it's not going to ruin the fun I had with the rest of the game and process. And, it's sure as heck not going to affect the rest of my day to day life. And, yes...I am a fanatic. Anyone who knows me knows I love the Huskers and bleed red and will talk about them to anyone who wants to talk about them.
