  1. Back in May of 2009 we went to the Stadium and accidentally stumbled onto the self-guided tour. We didn't really have the time we would have liked to really look around but we did get to pretty much go through the whole thing. The video room was closed while we were there due to some equipment malfunction so we didn't get to see anything but the room itself was pretty cool! If you go to our site (copied below) and go to the May section you can see all the pictures we took. Those don't cover everything but I think only because we ran out of memory on the card we were using... I don't know if there are any copyright issues with posting this online (here) but of course full credit should go to the wonderful people who put the whole experience together for the University of Nebraska. Hope you enjoy! http://huskersvecs.shutterfly.com/
  2. Let me start off by saying that my position as a Husker could barely be worse; and I’m damn proud of it! My in-laws are all from Texas, she went to CU, and while I was born and raised in Nebraska, I now live in Denver Colorado. When we lose to a South team, her family calls; when we lose to a North team, everyone else does. One can barely imagine when we lose to either Texas or CU… And obviously this year has been even harder than most. Even with all that though, I’ll be spending my only vacation (and my birthday) on glorious Nebraska Husker soil at the Kansas State game, and then spending the rest of the little money I make at the CU game up here. I’m only 26 so I’ve been raised on Nebraska football at its finest the whole way so this season hurts even more for that. I have been PROUD of my fellow fans my whole life and even more so when exposed to some of the things they call “fans” up here… With all that being said there are a few things that I’ve learned from Nebraska that apparently need to be brought back out and screamed from on high: You may wake up one day and realize that some of the people you thought you could depend on aren’t even worth the time spent learning their names. This happens sometimes. Just make sure that you don’t put all the people you CAN depend on in the same category. Because fellas, there are people out here you can depend on. Some of us are right here on this page… You may find that suddenly no one thinks you can get it done. Remember that there is nothing more FUN than proving they’re all wrong. This is HUSKER Football baby, counting us out is NEVER a good bet… At some point you might find yourself down; you might even find yourself losing. That is the same point that you put your head down, dig in your heels, AND DRIVE FOR ALL THAT YOU’RE WORTH! And if you haven't crossed the line before you fall, its alright; we love you because you Tried for us... My Nebraska flag will be flying high in my front lawn while I’m at the CU game, and I’ll be screaming my Scarlet and Cream lungs out for every Husker play. My passion and support for Nebraska Football will fade the same time my Husker tattoo will; THE DAY THAT I DIE! GO BIG RED!!!
  3. Nebraska 28 Southern Cal 25 290 yards passing 230 yards rushing The HUSKERS bring down the mighty!!
  4. In the best tradition of BOTH Michigan and Nebraska football; good show. I was worried going into CU and Michigan but we showed up in the end. Once again, good show Wolverine. Good luck next year; until you come up against us again...
  5. We'll take them. They deserve a good beating. I'm tired of listening to all the Buff crap up here in Denver. This year they're ours!!! GBR!!
  6. Shaggy cows taste good... Especially after some turkey. GO BIG RED!!!!!
  7. Ironically enough, I almost appreciate the way things have gone for my Huskers the last couple of seasons. That may sound ridiculous, but I relish the chance to show my COMPLETE support at a time when they need it the most. Huskergriff had it exactly right, this should be the true measure of the fans. I don't like "humble pie" any more than the next guy, but I know in the long run it will only make us stronger. Nebraska was so used to stomping it's opponents that perhaps they (and the fans) forgot how it feels to NEED to be competitive. I hate having to wonder if there is going to be a bowl game at the end of the year, but I think it is really unfair to call for BC's head on a pike so soon. He's been bringing in some fantastic talent (who snagged Swift?) of late and I really think we need to give him a chance to cultivate it and see if he can turn it into a DIFFERENT, but not necessarily changed, tradition of power. Of course we all want our #1 ranking back, but we have to earn it first. Not only the players and coaches, but the fans as well. I definitely feel your pain, for it is mine as well, but please have some patience. Remember... That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger. And watch out you ugly shaggy cows, we're coming for you next. GBR!!!
  8. "Oh yeah, Frasier is in Crete sorry Vae" "Turner is working for the Green Bay Packers, Tommie Frazier is at Crete." Sorry guys, brain freeze. I need more sleep or less work. Thanks for catching that.
  9. I think Turner is fairly happy up in Crete. (I love that town...) In regards to what will/may happen to Callahan, I know it kills me but I honestly think we need to have a little more patience with him. This guy had MASSIVE shoes to fill (reference this very board) and it's going to take him more than a couple of seasons to grow into them. And permit me to remind everyone that (my hero) Dr. Tom was quite a bit more... animated in his earlier coaching years. Believe me, this hurts me tremendously and I have a feeling it may get worse yet. I bleed scarlet and cream in Buff country... I'm not saying there's no room for criticism, but let's try to avoid sticking his head on a pike just yet.
  10. Hey, while this may be capable of endless jests, these stupid Buff fans are no joke. Believe me, I live in Denver and drive down to Boulder every so often to use the University library. Thus far I've been able to walk around the campus (decked out in my Husker finery) without getting pounded, although there have been a couple of close calls. I went to the game two years ago when it was up at Folsum and it was an... experience. Great view, lousy fans. Terrible fans in fact. If everything is still the same, the Nebraska section should be in the Northwest corner of the stadium. And here is the best advice I can give you: If you're surrounded by Buff fans, try to find another Buff fan sitting in the Nebraska section and trade them seats. I had to do that less than two minutes after the game a couple of years ago started. And after we win, hightail it to your car ASAP. I'm not trying to be a dramatist or sensationalist, but the only time I didn't fear for my life while I was there was the time before kickoff. Oh yeah, and wear something that is as waterproof as possible. (For some reason, a lot of full cups find Husker fans without warning...) Don't let this convince you it has scared me away though, I'll be there again this year. In my poncho.
  11. NU 27 OK 13 Passing: 290 yds Rushing: 140 yds
  12. I almost wish we were still unrated. Then we wouldn't have to worry about being rated. (I feel compelled to admit that I did cut out the newspaper poll though...)
  13. I'm with you on this one. My momma always told me, "If you're gonna get beat, you wanna get beat by the best." I don't know about USC and Texas though... At the same time, I don't think TT would have a chance against USC... But I would like to see a NU vs. TT rematch. REVENGE!!
  14. For some reason, I can't seem to access the article. Does anyone know why? Could someone who can cut and paste it for me?
  15. As soon as I wake up, I put on my Nebraska bandana. Then I throw on my Ahman Green jersey. Then I pick up my Nebraska NERF football and move all the furniture away from the TV. Then I move anything remotely breakable ( i.e. doors, windows, dishes, pictures etc) out of the room. Then I crack a beer (Killians) and start pacing... Kickoff begins the madness and woe to the poor soul who walks in front of the TV during the game. They must be removed. While the Huskers are winning, I'm screaming. While they are losing, I'm praying. Both loudly and with much gesticulation. If I sit down during the game, it's because I hurt something. I realize it may be hard to believe, but I haven't had company for a game for the last three years. I can't figure it out...
  16. Doubtless there will be all manner of predictions made on the upcoming game between our Huskers and the Missouri Tigers; some based on tradition others based on trends, statistics, and more in-depth intuitive prognostications. But I prefer to look at things in a more… unconventional light. A light that is not necessarily grounded in logical progressions or rational thought, just based purely on the emotional power my Huskers have over me. They are my heroes, my knights in shining armor that wage war every year against those who wish to cloud the valorous Nebraska legacy. And while they’re reign over this mythical world of mine is sublime, allow me to give you a glimpse of my Husker heaven and our next game… When two teams have such a history as the Huskers have with the Tigers and they meet head-to-head on the battlefield, you can throw out the statistics for they are meaningless. The Tigers will mobilize their whole force for this game as all the other teams who play Nebraska have done and will continue to do. There is a very simple reason for this and this reason hasn’t changed for the last 40 years. To defeat the Huskers is to claim a banner that can be held high for the rest of the year, a pennant displaying to the rest of the world the power you wield; the barbarian horde capturing the Roman fascis. The teams yet to come on the Nebraska schedule face the prospect with a great deal of ambivalence though. They cannot wait to claim the banner, yet they hesitate when it comes to entering the field and attempting the deed. That hesitation, that slight moment of doubt that is born in the opposition as they watch the mighty Red & White Army line up against them, that is where the victory lies. Our foes realize they have been beaten as they take the field, such is OUR power. Just as the warriors of old defeated forces that may have seemed unconquerable, so too do our Huskers; and just as those heroes emitted an aura of invincibility, so does an air of absolute inviolateness radiate from our team and turns the knees of the enemy to water. Thus far our heroes have vanquished two ferocious bear dens, a troop of possessed churchmen, a lethal pack of panthers, and raging cyclones. The next casualty of our hunt will be the savage Tigers. Fierce creatures you must be wary of, lest they spring and catch you unawares. But we will take the trophy in the end, for we won before the game started. And how could a plain farmer in overalls accomplish all this? Because the farmer is the epitome of the indefatigable. He can be bent by the forces of nature and not break; he can be hunted by the savage beast and not run. He is the earth itself, rooted deep in the rock-solid soil of the Nation and secure from within knowing he is unconquerable. The mighty Red Army will roll my friends, elemental in its strength and utterly implacable in its determination. Woe to those who seek to check them or keep them from their destiny! Woe to the conquered!! GO BIG RED!!
  17. That's hard man. But think on this, maybe it will make you feel better. The beer is cheaper at home. (I had to try)
  18. Thanks guys. Sometimes I tend to go a little overboard with the words... You should see me during games! I had to stop going to the bars... I really feel good about the next couple of games though. REALLY good. GBR!!
  19. Something happened during that Tech game… A spark, deep down in the souls of Callahan and Pederson flared briefly; briefly yet long enough to kindle the tinder that is Taylor and Ross… This flame grew until it approached an almost unquenchable pitch, and then was cruelly doused by the very tears of Fate herself! But the flame was not wholly extinguished… This flame was ignited in every Husker around the world and the heat of those thousands of flames will blaze as a bonfire, a bonfire so ravenous that even the gods can do nothing but stand back from the heat!! But as all such fires, it requires a sacrifice… A Bear. Full grown, a terrible beast and formidable foe, yet impotent when challenged by the savage force of the flame… The mighty Huskers will conquer. Woe to the conquered!
  20. Nebraska 35 Baylor 10 NU rushing yards: 275 NU passing yards: 215 The Blackshirts are going to punish them till they're on the verge of tears...
  21. I would have to say it is better to come back and almost win than it would be to just lose. This game may not go in the "win" column, but we are still unconquered. That is more important as far as I'm concerned. GBR!!!
  22. Watching the game from Colorado, I kept hoping the crowd would come through. It was frustrating because most of the television coverage showed the crowd down. Only on a couple of occasions did it "look" like you guys were into it. I'm so glad to hear you guys blew the roof off though. I think the players needed that more than usual for this one. Once again, it is indisputable; there is NO place like Nebraska. Great game though. I haven't felt this... not bad after a loss for a long time. Just one play differently and we would have nailed the 13th ranked team to the wall! Baylor better be on their game...
  23. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation? 25 years 295 days (does time in the womb count?) 2) What/who led you to The Nation? Family 3) Where are you from originally? Lincoln, NE and damn proud of it. 4) Where do you live now? Denver, CO and I like the mountains... 5) Favorite Husker memory? touring the stadium, locker room, weight room, etc. in Cub Scouts. Met Kevin Raymaker and Dr. Tom and got to play on the field. 6) Worst Husker memory? Colorado 2001 7) Number of home games attended? I think somewhere around 10. A lot of them were as a young 'un. More to come... 8) Number of away games attended? Five so far. Two in Iowa and three in Colorado 9) Favorite Husker memorabilia/apparel? My "Huskers" tattoo... 10) Favorite place to watch a Husker game? (section in Memorial, bar, friends house etc.) Bar none; Memorial Stadium. Apart from that... my house. I've found I scream more lately than in times past... 11) Favorite all time player? Tough one... I'd have to go with Frazier or Rozier. 12) WCO or Option? I really miss the Option but I'm willing to give the WC a try for a little while... 13) Stevie Pederson or Billy Byrne? Don't know much about Byrne, but not a big fan of Pederson. I was at the last game vs the Buffs at Lincoln, when Pederson was announced the crowd booed. I had never heard that in Memorial before, that solidified my opinion on the matter. 14) Lil Red or Herbie Husker? Hands down. Herbie is and always shall be... 15) Favorite Husker play? Frazier's run through the Florida defense in the third quarter of the '96 Fiesta Bowl or Cory Schlesinger's first TD against Miami in the '95 Orange Bowl 16) Favorite game-day beverage? Killians "Red" I love walking around in Denver (even more in Boulder) with all my Husker finery on, getting those looks but knowing they wont say anything. I can't wait for the Huskers to come up here again and smack around the Buffs; I always have so much fun when that happens! Of course, it's not quite as fun when we lose... But it's always worth it.
