  1. i don't think anyone thinks Bo should have this program rolling like devaney or Osborne did in just his 6th year but if you were to ask me when he was hired did I expect a conference title after 6 years I think most of us would have said yes, also its his fault that he is forced to play so many unprepared freshman because of failures in past recruiting classes, and lastly neither Michigan or Wisconsin played FCS schools this week they played teams from non BCS conferences that had bad years the season before just like we did
  2. after a good nights sleep and some time to reflect on last nights game I learned that the defense played like sh#t, but its only the first game of the year and this defense is going to struggle plenty this year with this many freshman on the two deep, if you expected this defense to be shutting people down you drank spiked kool aid. that being said it is never acceptable to give up 600 yards to the other team no matter who you're playing, hopefully this staff can fix whatever caused last nights break downs by the time conference play starts. this team reminds me of last years Miami team good offense with a young and experienced defense hopefully we have better results than Miami
  3. I have confidence in them because I've seen them with my own two eyes give our offense some pretty serious problems. Inconsistency, emotions, and second guessing yourself is part of youth and inexperience. It will only improve with experience. This defense could be a lot worse. They were 1-8 on 3rd down conversions, for instance. Also, I'm fairly positive we lose that game handily last year if they come out with that exact same game plan (at the same time in the year.) That game epitomized what UCLA, Wisconsin, Ohio State did to us. no where to go but up, i'm sure there will be adjustments made a will have a better showing next week but how much better i'm not sure if we hold S. Miss to 500 yards I still wont be impressed, i'm not sure you can fix 600 yards by the time Nebraska plays ucla, I don't want to seem like a total downer I still believe this defense could be playing some good football by the time we play Michigan
  4. IMO it was much worse. We were a 28 point favorite. I did not expect to give up 600 yards. I expected less than 350. This game was a disaster. What were you expecting from a defense that features 13 freshman/sophomores in the 2 deep? Some dominant performance from them? Most of them its their first time in a college football game. The expectations are unreasonable. The jump this D will make between now and B1G play is going to be tenfold of whatever jump we've seen in previous years - because those guys, in previous years, for the most part already had game experience and knew the system in and out. These guys don't. They're learning and adjusting to the speed still. That alone is a lot. We weren't expect 2012+...it's pretty simple. Already better than that defense. Also, once again, 13 freshman or sophomores in the 2 deep - with a VERY good QB on the other side, who (for the most part) most people thought would put over 20 points up on us. Do you think this defense is even CLOSE to being what it will be in B1G play? It is pretty unintelligent to think so, considering: first game for most of them, they are still learning the defense, and adjusting to the speed of the game. EDIT - Thats not to say that this defense will be "great", just that they are already better than last year and they have significantly more potential due to the youth and inexperience and improved athleticism. I'd be pretty surprised if Gerry did that poorly again - and ZA and Afalava were missing. I wish I shared you confidence, I know this defense will improve but after having only one game so far to compare to last years d and how bad they played I just cant say with confidence this years defense will be better than last year. but hey this defense has now where to go but up
  5. this is so disappointing, coach pap and bo lied to me and got my hopes up

  6. nope, he's the OC for the cowgirls
  7. Kondolo is playing guard. He's a big guy. With Finnin and Kondolo, it's just getting familiar with the schemes on offense and their roles. do you think either of them will be a starter by the end of the season?
  8. what's going on with the juco guys finnin and kondolo? I haven't really heard anything about either of them, what position is Kondolo playing?
  9. watching it right now, I wish he would have mentioned Nebraska more or thrown some of the players like ameer or Martinez some attention but he's not bashing Nebraska heck he only mentioned Nebraska like two or three times when talking about the big ten, how much should you mentioned the 19th ranked team
  10. what was this thread originally about? hopefully bo can get it going on both sides of the ball this season and we can have great year
  11. not my fault ya'll like to conveniently ignore stats. No, it's that at times we don't seem to understand your points. To recap and clarify: 1) Poster said in more or less words that we faced bigger threats at QB to run the ball in The Big Ten than we ever did in the Big 12. He made this point to back another point he made about the conference change being an undersold reason for the stagnation in defensive development. 2) You disagreed and told him he didn't watch anything but Husker games in a very snide way. 3) You brought up stats that weren't all correct in trying to prove what the other poster said was wrong using 1) Colt McCoy 2) Collin Klein and 3) RG3 (who we saw one time his whole career. 4) We tried to explain to you the difference between The Spread Option Offense that was ran by tOSU, MU, and NW being the reason that we said that they were bigger threats to take off and run and get more designed runs drawn up for them. The Big 12 teams run more Spread offenses that are pass first. I personally don't think it is hard to see how Dennard Robinson and Braxton Miller would be bigger threats in the running game and as I stated, more explosive runners (making them bigger threats to run) than Collin Klein and Colt McCoy. first of all you did none of this. The original argument was that we didn't face running qb's in the Big 12 like we do in the Big Ten like(Kain Colter, Braxton Miller, Denard Robisnon). get it right. Then i listed 3 qb's that did run as much as the qb's we faced now which i backed up with stats. Yes i know what a spread option offense is and i don't care and was not apart of the argument. that was you that injected it into the discussion. I was never talking about explosiveness and neither was the poster. You want to know why those 3 qb's in the Big 12 didn't run all over us because we had an awesome defense when we played them. Alright stats boy: I will break down the rushing attempts, YPC, and total yards based on Sports-Reference.com from each QB we are talking about in the years we played them: Klein in 2011 317 attempts, 1100 yards at 3.47 per carry McCoy in 2011 129 attempts, 348 yards at 2.7 YPC RG3 we saw in Bo's first season as HC. I'm not going to even include him. Colter 2011) 135 attempts - 654 yards at 4.84 YPC 2012) 170 attempts - 894 yards at 5.25 YPC Miller 2011) 159 attempts - 715 yards at 4.49 YPC 2012) 227 attempts - 1271 yards at 5.6 YPC Robinson 2011) 221 attempts - 1176 yards at 5.32 YPC 2012) 177 attempts - 1266 yards at 7.15 YPC As you see from the data above, the QBs that we have faced twice in two years have all averaged more per carry than both of the QBS you named and all three had more attempts than one of the QBs you named. By these numbers, I am going to conclude that as a whole, The Big Ten Spread Option QBs in the conversation are better runners and more explosive runners. They also get to carry the football a lot more than we saw QBs do in the Big 12. +1, this should settle things but he still probable wont admit he's wrong
  12. It was sort of weird that Maher dropped off between his jr and sr year for us. He was awesome his jr year. Then started missing chipshots and shanking punts his sr year. Weird. It was VERY weird, and what made it even weirder, is that we aren't use to seeing that here. I am not sure what happened, but if he can get back to what he was his Junior year, I could see him making a fine career in the NFL. I just can't see it off of what he did his Senior year. during the bowl game the announcers commented on how off the timing was between him and the holder, I didnt hear of this or notice it prior to that game but maybe that accounts for some of his problems last season
  13. I wouldn't mind. A player with a chip on his shoulder isn't the worst thing. Skill wise, I love the guy. Not quite as much as Mosley, but still quite a bit. I just don't like the idea that he doesn't really wanna be here. there is probably several guys on Nebraska's roster right know that wouldn't be here if they got offers from their big instate school if Texas end up saying no thanks then I wouldn't mind having him back
  14. So if this one holds true, it will suck, but at least we can hang onto Santos and Rose. I expect both of those guys to have large roles this year. cant remember the terminology used when other players have been suspended or kicked off the team under Pelini, but I've seen a few stories over the last few years where players that were suspended indefinitely were let back on the team eventually, probably depends on the coach but if this is true I don't think it automatically means they are off the team forever
  15. does anyone know when he's gonna commit? is he a lock or is he considering any of his other offers?
  16. even if he is found guilty I don't see him being kicked off the team if this is the first time he's gotten into trouble. was jake cotton found guilty of that assault charge coming out of high school? that was against a girl if I remember correctly and that seems more serious than this case even if his dads a coach and he is still on the team.
  17. Oh my God, yes. This. This 1000x. I still can't explain what the hell happened on that one. it almost looked like he kicked it out of his hands while trying to stay in bounds, maybe the worst play I've ever seen
  18. Does he have a family connection there or something? NC St. can't have that much history recruiting Illinois... there new head coach was at NIU last year, he might have a lot of connections there and NCST might start recruiting there more now
  19. LMFAO, he will be the next David! After watching how he played on a torn ACL, its scary how good he will be 100%. Bandwagon... no sir! I have never doubted that guy from the time we offered him the scholly Is Zaire the Blackshirt's only hope for All B1G? That's just sad. (Sad that we don't have more talent on defense, that is.) wasn't ciante evans an honorable mention last season? he could have a chance a long with some of the other db's and maybe santos
  20. i just hope abdullah improves his ball security, if he cuts down on his fumbles and puts up a similar amount of yards as last year i'd be happy, if he goes on to run for 1500 yards even better
  21. Or more importantly, why that kind of development and improvement came to a screeching halt once Carl and Marvin went elsewhere. Carl Pelini was a joke and always will be. He's an unbelievable DL coach and a very okay DC. When he was here we had some DTs that could play 60 to 70 snaps a game. We didn't have that last year. Marvin hurt more than Carl in my opinion. However I do believe that TJ will be just as good. It may be tough to keep him here after next fall. Really don't know why there is such an uproar about the draft. It was pretty well known that the 08 & 09 classes weren't the best. Those opinions were validated over the weekend. Rex would have gone higher had he not been hurt and I do believe Stein would have been drafted as well. Judging by the lack of NFL talent we had in the upper classes, I'd say the coaches deserve some credit for finding the schemes to beat some teams that had more experienced talent. couldnt agree more, getting 10 wins last year with the talent that was on the field is very impressive
