  1. Well, there's probably always a good chance that any coach that is hired will not move the needle much. Outside of a few elite coaches who aren't budging, there really are no sure things (and, btw, they weren't always elite or sure things ... they worked their way there). I agree that I wasn't blown away with the hire when he was announced, mostly because of his results at Oregon St. But you simply cannot extrapolate future results, based on prior ones at a completely different school, completely different league, completely different resources, completely different fan base, etc, etc. Here's the deal -- he's part of the Nebraska family now. He's Head Coach, and he seems like a quality guy. That's not changing. And no one knows how that will translate into wins. He deserves the benefit of the doubt, and he deserves our support. He hasn't led the team out of the tunnel even one time ever -- not even in practice. I think most Husker fans will come around. But it hasn't even been a week since Bo was officially fired. Things will eventually calm down.
  2. You are not allowed to question the scheme. Bo is a defensive genius, and if a defensive genius says his scheme works, it works -- regardless of the results on the field. The players are simply not executing the genius' scheme. As for offense, chaos is not a scheme. Therefore, there is no scheme. It's easier on the offensive side. There is no scheme to fix. Whew.
  3. It sucks because there's no real end in sight. Many of us understand what you're feeling.
  4. Neither were good. But we had a 17-3 lead, and our defense -- supposedly tough up front -- gave up 8 unanswered touchdowns and 408 yards to a single back. Just let that sink in. It's yet another new low.
  5. Agreed, Touchdown Tommie. He hasn't shown the ability through the air right now, and we're not getting Wisconsin-sized holes for our RB.
  6. Agreed @ slants. But Tommy hasn't thrown well in medium routes.
  7. Defense has to man up, like in 1st Q
  8. Needed something to get us to halftime. Defense is gassed and front 7 is consistently blocked out of position.
  9. Had to do something. They're packing their entire D up to the line. Thankful for the long passes -- at least gave us a couple penalties. We can't run on that D with no threat of pass.
  10. Yeah, they're gonna be very tough for us, no doubt. We're gonna have to be the most physical team out there in front of a raucous crowd, and that formula hasn't worked out well for us for a while.
  11. I just still can't really gauge how good we are at all. We've had two real games. We played very well against an athletic Miami team, and I think I'd be thrilled with that win, no matter what the season. We played horrid, uninspired / scared football against Mich St for 3/4 of the game. Yet for one quarter, we got a glimpse of what we all continue to THINK this team play like. I still don't know who we are. Our schedule is so bad that we still won't really know for a few more weeks. If we can beat Wisconsin on the road, I'll probably start believing that we just might get another shot at the conference title. But we really don't have a lot to gain this weekend, yet again. I must say, since this is a purely subjective thread, I don't get the sense that we'd be a 1-loss team, given the schedule of Notre Dame, Ole Miss, or Miss St. But that's just me.
  12. Yeah, but they looked really pretty in the first Thursday night game of the season. That game alone was worth at least 3 losses to remain in the Top 10.
  13. ROFL Awesome. Well, whad'ya know. Barney was right.
  14. Honestly, how on earth could this be a societal problem? I don't even understand the argument. Oh, and as background, I very much believe in the pussification of America, as someone referenced earlier in this thread. I go to work every single day at a very major company, and the PC touchy-feely conversations that go nowhere, as well the schoolgirl backstabbing politics, frustrates me to no end. However... how the heck does any of that explain the same deer-in-headlights scared team we witness week after week in big games, years on end? 'Cuz I watched Mississippi State, and they sure don't look scared. And that's a team, as announcers point out, that mostly comprised of 2 and 3 star recruits (I'm quoting them, and I'm not going to do research to make sure it's correct, btw). I watch Florida St, and they sure don't seem to be affected by pussification. I watch Alabama, and societal issues sure don't seem to be wearing Houndstooth clothing. Brian Kelly took over a Notre Dame an irrelevant program and had growing pains at first. And maybe he just gets lucky that his motivation-less kids win games on Saturdays with schedules that put ours to shame?? Bob Stoops has also lucked out similarly for 15 years after taking over a horrendous Oklahoma program. Whatever the cause, our coaches cannot motivate and inspire our players to believe that they're a championship team. Watch some Top 10 college football. We are NOT a physical football team. We do not really believe we will win these big games. There's just no way. They sure don't play like it (year after year after year). How can societal issues possibly explain the product that we see out there on Saturdays against any team worth a damn?
  15. ^This. I do think he'll be in NYC because he's good enough and he's an outstanding character. But the run is over.
  16. Can't argue with any of that. We couldn't dominate the LOS on offense, and we looked rather slow on defense. Not a terrific combination.
  17. And honorable mention to Westerkamp. Outside of these three, there wasn't a lot to love today.

  19. Bummer. Thought that extreme depth at DT would pay a lot of dividends this year, in terms of having the luxury of subbing fresh guys with not a lot of drop-off. Although, as has been pointed out, it allows us to recruit another DT whose eligibility is spaced a little better.
  20. Real tough break, for sure. Feel bad for the guy.
  21. I'll be a happy man if I never see kernels of corn on a Nebraska uniform.
  22. I can't think of a more important position to dominate.
  23. I'll throw in Abdullah's will to get a first down in last year's NW game, thus keeping the final drive alive and setting up a Hail Mary shot. Was pretty blown away by that dude (as usual).
  24. Well, this certainly makes me fired up for the season! haha Sam, let's focus on articles about HOW we win the division -- not why we won't. hahaha Still my favorite writer though.
