  1. Wow, I still thought Saban was making like 9.8 mill. Winning does pay off then doesn't it! So what is stopping us from paying at least 4.5 or 5 mil?
  2. With what I have been watching this season, no Riley can't fix this mess. The talent level dropped immensely with Bo over the years. Right now our talent is not where it should be and I haven't seen much on the field that would change that opinion at this point. We are playing a transfer at QB, while we have 2 solid recruits waiting in line? Sorry in year three, we should be seeing some sort of talent improvement at all positions. I don't care about wins and losses(unless you lose to NIU) but if we would have went to Oregon and actually competed for the whole game, showed signs of competing talent wise, that loss is not a bad one. Instead, Oregon called off the dogs, and we still couldn't get out of our own way and win the game. My major factor of "getting better" is seeing improvement on the field. Same stupid penalties, same lack of running game, and stupid pass play calls. Talent is suspect. Bo let it dip pretty darn low, and still won a few more games per year. Our level isn't at Big 10 level. I don't know if its at MAC levels right now.
  3. We traded the Texas connections for Michigan and Ohio ST. Don't kid yourself, they are no different than Texas or OU or A/m. They control this conference as much as we feel that Texas controls the Big 12. That money, well lets say that like severance pay each year. Each year while we have been in the Big 10, we get further away from what was for more bank roll. If we don't use that money to get a better coaching, well then what the money for? The change in conference is not responsible for our program, but it sure didn't help either. Remember, back when Penn St was invited into the conference, they were so so. That same time period we were winning championships. Why weren't we invited then. Why didn't we get in then? Easy, we would have taken the cake and ate it too! All of these conferences are the same. Each one has its powers, and those are the deciding votes on all issues.
  4. If we are going to throw money on the floor, then lets offer 10 mill and go get Saban? If its all about winning, and Saban is god, why not pony the doe and go get some wins then? If we have the doe, lets show it. Saban or Stoops? IF we ever want to be relevant, and fast, those are the two options. Otherwise we are taking chances on the same types, same end results and still not happy.
  5. Did Mike Riley publicly say he wanted to come here as HC? Frost grew up here, played here, won here, so why wouldn't he want to coach here? Does he need to publicly say that he wants this job in order for us to think he is a viable option? He is a current HC of another team. I don't know if he will publicy acknowledge "wanting the Nebraska job".
  6. My concern is if Rutgers comes in and smells blood, take the ball first on offense and goes right down the field, do our players and coaches have enough mojo to will this team to win? Can this team will itself to compete? Those questions need answered first. I am afraid that if Rutgers comes in and jumps on us right off the start, were screwed.
  7. Can this team circle the wagons? Is the talent there to turn things around. I saw very little speed on the field in the first 3 games. I saw no depth. Even if this team improves its play on the field, do we have enough to win meaningful games? Seriously?
  8. I like all of the discussion. Its keeping the season real. As long as you have hope for better days, those day will come!
  9. I don't hate any of the choice that been named thus far. They are all really decent choices. My issue is this is Nebraska. How many of these guys would stay once they did get us to the top of the heap? Lets say we hire Coach A, who is a graduate of SEC power or SEC school. This coach comes here and we are doing great and doing damage in the Big 10. OK this SEC school offers the oil well to this Coach to come home, does that Coach stay or go? Its like Roy Williams at KU. Great Coach. Every KU fan knew that when the time came, he was UNC bound no matter the tradition or History of KU, he was gone. Born and raised in UNC country. Those ties never go away. If you can look at those names on that list and say without doubt that they would all stay here for many years I say lets go get them. I really only see maybe two names on the choice lists but they are Les MIles and Frost.
  10. Arizona St played in the Rose bowl for a chance to maybe split the national title. 19-10 loss at Tempe was a bad loss compared to what has happened since then? We wonder why no one can lead this program to the promise land. I would consider letting Texas beat us in the Big 12 title game in 96' a worse loss since that game cost us a chance at even playing for a spot in the title game again. Remember what you want to remember, but that game in St Louis was the start of the Texas program and the demise of ours.
  11. I hope our boosters/money spenders are not as undecisive as most of us as posters are. So far we have picked apart almost every coaching hire, AD replacement and recruit before they are even looked at. I know its all for discussion purposes, but wow, if our backers are as wishy washy as we are, no wonder we can't hire anything worth a hoot. Just kidding folks, love the discussions! First things first though, we have to go one way or another in order for this to work out. We either lose and lose a lot or we win and win a lot in order for this to work out for the best. I personally really don't have a whim right now what to expect this weekend. If we come out and win by 50, I am still going to be pissed that we lost to NIU. If we win period, I am going to point fingers at the coaching staff for not having the team prepared for a team that Boston College beat a week earlier. If we lose, well, I think that would seal the fate in a quick minute, but doesn't do this program any good to have that happen right now either.
  12. Trev Alberts is the choice of most common opinions. Devaney wasn't experienced in anything other than football either but was AD for some time. Hired some decent coaches in other sports as well. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to hire the best available coach in any sport, does it? Frost would play for anyone as AD, as long as that AD had his back for a few years.
  13. Amen, brother! Completely agree. Here is I think the issue with Frost in some peoples mind. He chose Stanford over coming to Nebraska first. In some minds, coupled with losing at Arizona St in 96' he will never be considered a true Husker legend. I see people still thinking at Turner Gill is a great coach. While I do think he was shorted at KU, I also watched enough of that to tell you that it was heading south. Even KU fired a coach as soon as they saw even worse results in 3 years. Loyality. Loyality is an issue with us looking at Frost. It has to be. He is doing fine at UCF. He is doing what most are asking of him. I still see "lets wait and see what he does at UCF first" responses. He is never going to win a conference title, or play in the playoffs or a major bowl game. Florida ST, Miami, Florida, South Florida are all ahead of UCF in the pecking order in its own area and state. Even to win 7 games a year, your doing pretty remarkable in my opinion. If this school passes on Frost as its next hire, I will laugh so hard when he ends up at somewhere like Kansas ST or Notre Dame or __________ name your team and wins and wins a lot. We then think we could swoop in and hire him, right? I wouldn't take that approach.
  14. Eichorst sighting! On this thread..........Classy right now is coming in last place, wait we might be in last place already. Whats next?
  15. Expectations should never be lessened. There is parity in college football, but not as much as gets reported. Instead of having a hand ful of teams that can win the title each year we now have two handfuls of teams that can win it all. We are in a conference where the champion has a chance to be a playoff contender. One of 5 conferences that have that. Michigan landed the right guy on try 3. I don't count Solich in this process because he wasn't really hired. He was appointed as the overseer of what TO started. Callahan, Pelini, and now Riley. Our expectations shouldn't be any less than that of Michigans. USC, OU, or Texas. Winning is the only expectation.
  16. Landscape has changed................Seems kind of same ol same ol' to me. Alabama, Clemson, OU, Michigan Ohio ST, Florida St are all in the Top 15. We are the only missing from that list that would rival something found in the 1980's........right. TV Money has changed the landscape, but the powers in football nearly are all the same except for where Nebraska is currently. Yes most of those schools have had some rough spots. Yes most have fired head coaches. Looks like most have figured it out now to. This is why the time is now to get things righted. We are the last of the Mohicans. We haven't found our name on that list for quite some time. Frankly I don't know one fan on this board or that sits in that stadium that would care what offense or defense we ran, as long as we were winning 9-10 ball games a year and not getting pounded in Top 10 match ups. Right? Winning cures those ailments. If we slinged the ball around the field 65 times a game and could play Ohio St to within a field goal, right now who would say thats not playing to win? If you could play them within a field goal that means you could also win the game. We haven't had that feeling for a while either. Our standards have to matched that of Ohio St and Michigan. They are the front runners in the conference. Wisky is a great role model, but they don't have enough horses to compete with those other two right now either. To me, setting standards like Wisky is like deciding to follow Bill Snyder's lead at KSU when we were watching them win the Big 12 north. That won't beat Texas or OU on most years. Same thing for the goal of being Badger. Thats great for being 3rd best, but more than likely won't get you into too many Playoff's.
  17. Exactly how are mens sports programs doing at UNL right now? Some of the Big 10's worst in each sport. Baseball has made some improvements, but if anybody other than Erstad coached them, he would have been gone 2 seasons ago. SE hasn't done anything really sprecial in hires that he has made to UNL. He hasn't really done his job so to speak by bringing in a top tier football coach. He is the man who hired the man. It does fall on his shoulders right now. Thats why he had a presser after the game. He is the man.
  18. I wonder if Whittingham did go some where else which wife would move with him. I have heard that most mormons have more than one wife!
  19. Realistically- Fuente- ACC with Va Tech, why leave a conference with its upside for one that is controlled by Michigan and Ohio ST? Miles- washed out. Best days or in the rear view mirror. Surprise, surprise- Minnesota and Purdue are in the same conference. How often do you see any coaches go with in a conference for jobs? No matter who is the next coach, can't keep hiring rejects from other programs. A fired coach has baggage. Most couldn't win enough. We have gone those routes already. They haven't worked. Its time to find that jewel in the rough. That might be Scott Frost, but you can't base what happens at UCF on how do he is or could be. They don't have the facilities, money or tradition. They are 5th mouth to feed in the state of Florida. So if they do go 7-5, that pretty darn good, but will Husker fans look at and say hes just a .500 coach?
  20. Ok. Has Jimbo Fisher won a playoff game with out Winston at QB? NO. Will Dabo win the NC this season after losing a Qb, RB, and defensive lineman? Probably not, but he didn't go this last weekend and lay an egg. QB looked really good. Clemson, Alabama, Florida St, Michigan and others reload. Even if your reloading, that doesn't mean the next waive of players will win right away. Watson didn't win as Clemsons Qb in his first attempt ........but was close. Criteria for hiring coaches on some scales on this thread are boarder line non-sense. Clemson is squarely Dabo's program. All his recruits. That one caught my attention. What has Dabo proved? good grief!
  21. Big Mac's today......Did I miss a BOGO today?
  22. Did we get free big mac's today?
  23. Didn't Rutgers play us good last year? Close game. ? If we change QB's we might have chance to win. MIGHT!
  24. Did Dabo lose to NIU in year 3?
